River Padma, the biggest and most raging river of Bangladesh, is only twenty kilometers from the village where I grew up hearing about the sinking of locally manufactured launch which regularly took a toll of thousands of lives. I just always asked myself why this type of accident happens. As the Padma has alienated the southern part of our country from the other regions, it is a must for people in those areas to cross the river to reach the capital city, Dhaka. In the year of 2008 when I first came to Dhaka, I had a bitter experience of observing such accident. Horrible scene of hundreds of people dying in front of me made me seriously rethink- how can we resolve this problem? This question drove me to choose Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (NAME) as my major in university level and having the opportunity to be a student of the Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET) was a great achievement for me.
Having said that marine accidents pushed me always to

Being the manager of the student dining hall for four times helped me to develop management skills in an optimum cost. Furthermore, I was an actively associated member of the organizing committee of NAME DAY-2014 cultural program at the campus. “Badhan”, a blood donating society, awarded me the certificate of acknowledgment for donating blood more than ten times and I was a volunteer of this society. These activities helped me to share my view with other people and to work in a group. Again in my school life, I had a keen interest in mathematics and I always got excited to participate in Mathematics Olympiad. Consequently, in the second year of my undergraduate level, I placed 5th in the 4th National Undergraduate Mathematics Olympiad 2012, among the whole nation where students of mathematics, science and engineering background from all the universities across the nation
Organizations such as the National Honors Society have more than just one single objective for students to accomplish. The main goals of a group like this one offer many purposes designed to benefit students’ futures and prepare them not only for their academic life, but their social life as well. This organization provides students with the opportunity to widen their social circle and allows them to meet others who share the same aspirations they hold. Not only that, but with the recognition of academic achievements given through this group, it encourages students to keep thriving in their studies and motivates them to go above and beyond the average standards. Lastly, it also inspires students to improve their leadership skills and to
Pursing a career as a medical doctor is an opportunity for me to mentor youth in underserved populations. As a child, I was raised in the low income, urban community of Roxbury, MA. Although not as notorious today, the neighborhood had garnered negative attention for its high crime rates. My mother emigrated from Haiti and raised me as a single parent. Due to our financial circumstance, Roxbury became our permanent residence. I have always felt there was something lacking in Roxbury in comparison to other towns I visited. My teenage years were largely spent in the suburban town of Stoneham where I attended high school. There was a literal difference in air quality and a psychology contrast in future prospects. While native students of

Coming from a small town on the east coast, I would have never expected to fall in love with such a large and diverse college like the University of Michigan. The upbeat atmosphere of Ann Arbor alone was enticing enough before I even saw the actual campus. Upon visiting, I quickly realized the University of Michigan was a place I would not mind spending my next couple of years. From the countless students all around to the wide variety of shops in town, Ann Arbor seemed like a lively and exciting place to spend my college experience. While walking through the campus, I was continuously amazed by the large intricate buildings surrounding me. Some of my favorites included the Law Library, the College of LSA and the Michigan Union. While I do not plan on attending it, the Ross School of Business was also an incredible
As a child I learned about the world primarily by experimenting rather than asking someone. That being said, I have had my fair share of failures such as baking gummy bears in cookies. However, I have also had much success. While the rest of my class was growing crystals for our science fair, I was piecing together a coyote skeleton. In high school, I conducted scientific research on drought signals amongst soybeans at varying distances. This research not only took me to the State Science Fair, but the International Science and Engineering Fair as well. I fell into a fascination of science at a young age, and I have a desire to continue on this path. The REU program offered at Tarleton is not only superb in research, but a great fit to me as
Philip Dederer, a fourteen and half year old boy, hit himself with a disastrous injury after diving from the Froster-Tuncurry Bridge into a river in New South Wales. That bridge was manufactured almost 40 year ago before the accident and since then the river has different behavior regarding its depth and the content in the bottom of the river. On the other side, many individual especially the young adults are used to diving from the bridge but there was no incidence of any injury or damages like that. Another dimension of the case is that the roads and traffic authority of New South Wales (RTA-NSW) is fully acknowledged with the behavior of river and routine of young adults but they never fix any notice and caution board that highlight any danger regarding diving from the bridge. At the end, this Dederer
Academics have been my primary strength throughout my high school career. Since Grade 9, I have maintained an average over 95%, thus receiving Silver Medal every year; my final graduating average will most likely be 96.2%. My scholarly success is illustrated in the high number of subject awards I have received - ten awards in three years. In addition, I have competed in various math and computing contests, such as the Galois, for which I placed first in the school, and the AMC 12B, as well as the University of Toronto Biology Competition.
The Kurdi’s luck ran out shortly after the boat left shore as big waves took control of the watercraft and it soon capsized. The father, Abdullah, was the family’s lone survivor. The Kurdi’s sorrowful story is not unique. This year alone, more than 2 600 have died venturing across the
Wow! When we ride around on dirt roads every weekend, we always see people with nice and exciting fourwheelers or golfcarts going to the sand pit.Sometimes people will take their fourwheeler to the sand pit in Axson, even a new fourwheeler. They will go in deep water with it. If I had one I would not go in water with it, at first anyway. But in Axson now, there is water over the roads, because the Satilla River is out of the banks. The water is so much out of the banks, you can not go under the bridge at Axson.

From this tragic incident, we learned that we need to have people and systems monitoring rivers and other bodies of water, despite it being a holiday. We also learned that prevention and mitigation goes a long way in the incident of a flood or any other disaster. The money, the lives, and the time that is saved by a little preparation and planning is so minuscule compared to the recovery that would be spent. We also learned and it finally sunk in that we as a nation have to be prepared not only in our technology and waterways but also in our mindset.
I had a distinct interest in Biology, Computer and Math. In my Secondary school, I was a student assigned with the position of sports-vice captain and house-captain in my 8th and 9th grade respectively, a privilege and honor I took very earnestly. Moreover, I have been a part of Bharat Scouts and Guides for seven years, where I was selected as patrol leader and honored with Governor Award in recognition of my sincere service to the mankind. As a student, I had done a part-time job at Amway agency. Hence, as I developed, I extended my vision into science, expanded my presentation and refined my research interests to what they are today. Volunteerism has been a steady component in my life, working at doctor's facilities, primary schools, Old Age Home, Community Health Centre, and Orphanage at whatever point I could. I wanted to add my part positively to the lives of many individuals by knowing their challenges of life and spreading awareness of health and diseases, their prevention amongst
In our lives, we have to make important choices, and sometimes our choices determine our happiness or sadness. As a Filipino, our families tell us to do well in school and to not make bad choices because they want us to be successful and to have ethical morals. Growing up as a Catholic, I was taught to be obedient and respectful to my family which has shaped who I am today. Yet, I too made some mistakes, and I learned from the consequences. From my failures, I learned to not belittle myself, but to grow.
In this paper, emphasis has been directed on the success experienced during the semester, the hardships, outstanding findings and recommendations. Success during the semester was contributed to availability of a course syllabus, group works and an engaging professor. By contrast, the semester also suffered some downsides contributed by difficult and hard o understand topics as well as a demanding project. During the course of the semester, it was discovered that some students develop affiliation with different topics, and hence it is important for the institution to put this into consideration in creation of semester
Bangladesh is one of the largest deltas in the world which is highly Penetrable to Natural Disasters because of its Geographical location, Flat and low-lying landscape, Poverty, Population density, Illiteracy, Lack of Institutional setup etc. Similarly the Physical, Social as well as Economic states of Bangladesh are very typical to any of the most Penetrable countries to Natural Disasters in the world . The total land area is 147,570 sq. km. consists mostly of Floodplains (almost 80%) leaving major part of the country (with the exception of the north-western highlands) prone to flooding in the rainy season. Moreover, the adverse affects of Climate Change – especially High Temperature, Cyclones and Sea-level Rise, Storm Surges, Salinity Intrusion, Heavy Monsoon Downpours etc. has aggravated the overall Economic Development scenario of the country to a great extent.
