Introduction
Business Studies is an important course that prepares students to face the real practice of commerce. Engaging theory and practice is instrumental in ensuring that students learn the underlying factors that determine the practice of every business practice. Helen’s is an upmarket fashion boutique store in Sydney’s east. Falling sales have been reflected by surveys that reveal consumers view the business as outdated and no longer relevant to consumers’ needs. Strong competition in the area has placed considerable pressure on pricing. The business’s target market, 50-65 year old females, no longer dominated the now younger demographic character of the area.
This is a category that I feel we are slowing getting better at. There is a wide variety of classes whether it be here or at Indian Hills that teaches students the basics of business. I feel as though more in depth in classes should be taught on how to own and run a business rather than how a business works. The idea of teaching students about business laborers is taught more than being business leaders. This is why business leaders are a lot less common. Teaching students that they can be more successful than working under someone is something that should be done
In recent news, Bank of America publically announced its plan to make changes to debit card customer accounts in 2012 (Chang, 2011, NBC San Diego). To date, Bank of America has a “fee-free” policy on these types of accounts however; new regulations on debit card accounts are a hindrance to the Bank’s ability to maximize return on investments. As a result the bank is considering implementing a surcharge on checking accounts. However, the bank must determine if this will affect the attitudes and behaviors of customers. To achieve this, Bank of America must conduct business research.
On the other hand, it is said that women are seen as being more supportive and less managerial. Women tend to display high levels of compassion and team-building skills. Additionally, women leaders are able to view situations from many different perspectives, enhancing their persuasive ability and making them better at persuasion than males. Women are also said to like a challenge. “An international study found that 70% of businesswomen asked their bosses for new challenges at work, which is less than half of the businessmen that did so.” Lastly, it is said that women are honest and hard workers. It was found that 54% of women worked 9-11 hour days compared to 41% of men. It was also found that women are more likely to do work during their vacations and less likely to spend their “sick days” playing hooky.
Many of the most important lessons in business education involve learning how to place academic concepts in a work setting. For applied
Robin Chase graduated with from a high level management school and has put her degree to use. Entrepreneurs are essential to this world because they are the ones who come up with many of the ideas in the world and also they come up with solutions to everyday issues. It is essential for those who aspire to do something with their degrees to examine those who have past success in a similar field because it allows one to examine what has worked for those who have been successful, but more importantly what has failed them. It also fits into our course by emphasizing creative thoughts because often the ideas that change the world are those that are unexpected. Another reason that this presentation fits into the class is that it shows that a management degree does not have to be just used to manage employees. It shows that doors can be opened by obtaining a degree and that one can choose to do anything with the degree. Robin Chase also demonstrates that a positive attitude even in difficult times is essential because a positive attitude has a major influence on individual and team success. One could have the best idea, but a negative attitude is cancerous in the workplace. This presentation is important because it allows one to begin to formulate ideas and creative ideas. Mrs. Chase is an influential leader and her words inspire those around her and that is why it is
As someone who had always been prudent, I wanted a major that involved risk, and the out-of-the-box thinking I enjoyed. To me, business was all of the aforementioned. Who would’ve thought selling something like “pet” rocks could make someone a millionaire? Looking to an even more ludacris invention, who would’ve thought that selling a singing plastic fish would go viral. Herein lied what I thought to be the “magic” of business and entrepreneurship – the fact that it wasn’t a prescribed path but one that I could pave for myself.

Even leading authorities have some areas for which they lack knowledge and understanding. Most small business owners who make an honest assessment of their skills will recognize opportunities for improvement. By going back to school, entrepreneurs can gain a better understanding of how to conduct business. For example, by learning the latest developments in business practices, owners can learn to identify inefficiencies like redundant operational processes.
When I decided to take this course I was expecting to get an A, because I believed that Econ 120 was going to be similar to my Econ class on high school; unfortunately, it was not. Econ 120 is more challenging. The first weeks of class were easy, but as the time passes the class got harder for me and my grades on the exams dropped my overall grade on the class.
To fill the gap, my peers and I co-founded DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) to attract motivated students to share their ideas in business. As the co-founder and co-president of an entrepreneur club, I lead group discussions on recent news in business, entrepreneurship, marketing and finance. I have never taken a course in marketing and finance and I believe taking Business and Entrepreneurship at Stanford University would be a great opportunity for me to do so. Through this course, I will be able to work on group projects with my peers and present business ideas with those who are also fascinated by business. By evaluating case studies with students from diverse backgrounds, I will be able to gain a different perspective on how the various components of business such as finance, marketing and strategy play critical roles in the overall business development. Upon completion of this course, I plan to return to DECA with newly gained knowledge and further our understanding of business and
In 2015, the applicant pool increased at 57% of business schools worldwide (Gellman). Today, a Masters of Business Administration defines a businessperson and unlocks the doors to the financial world. Modern business hinges on education, but when formal schooling was not widely available, artists considered other factors integral to a flourishing businessman and financial success. Authors, playwrights, and filmmakers recognized the value of formal education, but imagined experience, social dexterity, and observation as the bedrock of economic prosperity.
