Personal Statement Waking up to the smell of a traditional Dominican breakfast every day has made me appreciate where my family comes from and how hard my mother has worked to keep a roof over my head. My mother came from the Dominican Republic looking for a new beginning with only a high school degree. Through her struggles to build a better life for all of us, I have gained a deep appreciation for hard work and dedication. All her sacrifices are paying off as my sister is the first generation to graduate and I plan to follow her footsteps and achieve even more. Through my own experiences, I have learned the significance of “If you work hard enough and assert yourself, and use your mind and imagination, you can shape the world to your desires” …show more content…
My first year was tough since my sister just moved out and my mother and I had to find a new home which affected me a great amount as I ended my first semester with a GPA of 3.0. As life progressed I realized why I have always had the urge to devote my life to the law. My ultimate purpose in life is to make a positive difference in this country and leave my mark such as Joseph Pistone (former FBI agent). I rose from having a GPA of a 3.0 to currently holding a 3.86 after a year by grasping the challenge of switching to A.D. Henderson University School/ FAU High school. This transition challenged me to an extremely competitive and rigorous program where students were fully dual-enrolled at Florida Atlantic University; taking college courses to fulfill high school requirements.
With the current knowledge I have, the hunger to gain more wisdom is unbearable and by attending FSU I will be able to strive for success and know that I have been put on this planet to do something useful. This opportunity will give me that chance to learn from one of the best colleges in order to become an FBI agent, therefore I can help those in need while keeping the nation safe and representing this
It’s no doubt that culture and family values play a significant role in the self-discovery process. Often times, these social constructs can influence goals, beliefs and values. Life as a Dominican is one that is built on strong family value, religion, morality and work ethic. Growing up in a Dominican family, I can remember my parents instilling strong moral values such as being honest and respecting one another while emphasizing the need for hard work and education. Much of my outlook on life can be attributed to the Dominican values of family, discipline and values taught to me throughout my childhood and adolescence.
To start I plan on going to post secondary school after high school to get my bachelors degree. I plan on majoring in finance and then becoming a CPA. I am still unsure what I want my minor to be but I’m pretty positive it will be in the business field. There were a lot of different things in my life that made me want to take this path. One of which is the financial situations of my parents. After my parents divorce, it came clear to me how important it is to go to college. My dad who went to college and got his degree has found great success. Whereas to my mother who decided to work after college struggled after the divorce to get everything together. She was changing jobs constantly trying to find one that paid more so she could provide
Hello, everyone, I'm Vic, and I am studying Business Studies in Computer Information Technology. My interests are writing, business ownership, technology, and filmmaker, hence the program I am pursuing. I am originally from Chicago, however, I now live in Las Vegas.
I am applying for college admission, educational opportunity programs, and special opportunities following high school graduation. I would appreciate your recommendation to include in my applications.
Coming into Iowa State, I was deadset on becoming a dentist. I was going to graduate from Iowa State with a high GPA, score high on the DAT, and get accepted to a great dentistry program. After taking my first biology and chemistry classes, that plan quickly changed. I was working a part-time job, but other than the 15 hours a week, I was hardly productive. I ended my freshman year very discouraged with a 2.60 GPA. I then switched my major to marketing with a second major in management. I knew that it was a lot easier for a GPA to go down than up, so it was time to buckle down.

In a few short months, I will be graduating from high school. With that comes large responsibilities to take care of my own schooling and my own needs. There will be no one there to motivate me to finish my homework or to push me to school everyday. I am in charge of myself now, and it will take some time to get used to. Going to college is a big part of 2018 for me, and I want to start the year strong. Instead of picking a resolution or goal, we picked a word that we wanted to work towards this year. My word is strive. I want to strive to do and be better than I think I can be. To make my resolution easier this year, I picked a word that I can drive towards to get me through any trials.
I graduated high school in 1998 and never went to college after high school because I didn't have the confidence in myself to attend. During the next couple decades, I held a series of low-wage jobs such as a fast food worker, grounds keeping cleaning bathrooms at an amusement park, general office type work like reception and data entry and even a stint in retail Never had any idea what my calling was supposed to be.
I started to gain interest in leadership and helping others in Junior High. I was really inspired by the upperclassmen. So, with the motivation I had, I applied to be in W.E.B. It is an organization where you become role models for your underclassmen and you also help around campus. I have done W.E.B for two years and for those two years, I’ve led many groups of kids around campus. I eventually became friends with those underclassmen. It felt amazing knowing that I am a person that kids can come and talk to. And that’s what I wanted, having people feel comfortable around me, but also takes me seriously. I may be goofy, but I can be serious.
In high school all freshman 's were taken on a trip upstate to Camp Ramapo, of course everyone was excited to go, little did we know we were all in for a surprise. Upon arrival we all realized that our cellphones had no service we all thought it would be a momentary situation, turns out it was not. We would spend 3 nights and 4 days disconnected from the world, no Facebook, at the time aim, or text messaging. I remember we were all shocked and mad at the thought of not being able to use our phones. The trip started off poorly everyone seemed disinterested in participating in activities, so the camp consolers decided that we would all break off into small groups. It all appeared to be pointless because still no one was willing to participate in the activities, but suddenly we were all asked to share our names and something interesting about ourselves. After we had all shared things changed suddenly, I personally began interacting with people who I had not spoken to at all throughout my first semester which was shocking since I had class with most of them. After the 4 days were over, I came to the realization that those had been the best days of my life. I was able to meet new people even though they weren 't necessary new in my eyes, I participated in activities I had never done before, and most of all I wasn 't so worried about who had and hadn 't texted me, or what the latest news/gossip was. It took this trip for me to realize that I was so disconnected from my
In the past five years I have learned more about humanity and humility than any paycheck would ever be worth. Over the course of these five years I have worked full time at Emerald Coast Behavioral Hospital, gaining invaluable experiences along the way. I have witnessed the entire spectrum of psychiatric disorders I studied during my undergrad. Seeing individuals, first hand, struggle with their illness was like putting a face to a name. I have been fortunate enough to interact and contribute to the treatment of patients struggling with schizophrenia, major depression, bipolar disorder, and personality disorders, among many others.
This year 2016 I will do my best. An I am going to write a story. How to do best this year.I will pay more ation to the teacher. Cause I want to improve my grades. Study harder . If I do that I could pass and go to high school.
Since I had a rough financial situation, I am an advocate for children in my community. I tutor many of the neighborhood children because I know all too well how difficult it was for me not having anyone available to help me with homework. I understand firsthand how is hard for young, poor, black children like to receive a fair education because we are often disregarded and overlooked by our teachers in favor of the students who were born with the “tools for success.” Though I know there is a disadvantage between myself and my peers I do not make excuses nor am I jaded by this; instead, I work hard in school and I focus on my future. I will become successful someday; I just have to keep working hard and believing in my abilities.
The first year of Berkeley, I was doing very well until my second year. I started partying more and stop attending classes regularly. After Berkeley, I shaped up my act and attended the Art Institute of NYC. With a better state of mind, I graduated the Art Institute with a 3.4 GPA. But of course, here comes the obstacles!
I'm a persistent, hard working individual who is strong in my academics based on my high GPA. I currently balance school work and a demanding part time job in a supermarket. My intended major is Mathematics and my minor is Secondary Education. My career goal is to become a successful math teacher. My intended major and minor will help me prepare for graduate school after I get my Bachelor's Degree. Additionally, I'm confident that my recent fieldwork experiences in a middle school and high school has given me the foundations of becoming a highly skilled teacher. In fact, I'll be taking graduate courses as an undergraduate student in advance before taking classes for my Master's Degree. I know the skills that I already have and the skills that
