Personal Values In Life

Decent Essays

My persona has always been identified with the priorities I have chosen to live by: faith in God, family, education, and self-drive. I have been identified by many individuals as a strong Christian, great public speaker, and intelligent. With the balance of my priorities I have been able to challenge myself, grow my leadership skills, and excel in my academics. But, just as planets orbit around the sun, my values in life revolve around a sport that has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember.

I have been hooked on the game of golf ever since my dad introduced it to me at a young age. It’s apparent for a father to think that his son has a talent in golf. But, when my father and I would go to different courses around the state, professionals noticed that I had a smooth golf swing as well. Being able to swing a club was instinctive. I felt comfort in the environment and atmosphere of a course, when in many cases it could’ve been intimidating. Being told by many that I have a natural golf swing, I took it for granted. Being distracted by the popularity of mainstream sports, I never understood my potential. I didn’t get serious about the game until I was twelve, and by my freshman year I made the senior high team. As a junior in high school, I was all-conference and performed well at state matches. With this experience I’ve learned the importance of honing a talent and skill. Practice is important, and you can’t just walk up to the ball and expect to hit a perfect shot. It takes determination and attention to detail. There are going to be challenges, but it’s how you handle them that makes you the person you want to be.

The approach shot, perhaps the most important contributing factor that determines how well you play the ball. Golf is a mental sport more than it is a physical sport. Every swing requires your full attention with the only objective of keeping the ball in play. As you examine your swing many factors and details have to be taken into consideration: my body must be square, knees slightly bent, eyes on the ball, good posture is essential, and make sure I swing all the way through. I have come to find that how you approach the game of golf is how you’ll handle life’s hardest situations.
