1. There are many different ways that I use personality in a day. I use personality to help others to understand me. However, I also use personality to help me understand others. I am a shy individual in most atmosphere, which allows me to observe and get to know others. This way, I can decide whether or not I would like to approach an individual. At the very beginning of each semester I observe each professors' personality in order to set the tone for the semester. By doing so I can usually tell if I will enjoy the class or not.
2. I believe personality may be hard to study scientifically because there are so many varieties of personality. Throughout our lives we may portray different personalities when involved with different groups of people. Also, we may view an individual's personality differently than what someone else may. As I stated earlier, I am shy in most situations. However, some people believe that I am standoffish or unfriendly. Personality would be hard to measure. If a group of people were put in a room for others to observe their personalities, it is quite likely that they would not act as they normally would.

Personality assessments should be used in certain job types. If I were to hire an individual in customer service I would want to know that they have good people skills and can interact well with others. This could benefit both parties involved. If there is more than one person applying for the job I could weed out those who might not be able to handle customer service by doing a simple personality assessment.
4. The tests were accurate. As far as anxiety goes, I have my fair share of it when there are good reasons, such as a job interview or a big presentation. However, for the most part I am calm. My self-esteem isn't through the roof, but I do view myself as more good than bad. All in all, the tests proved to be
Burton, western & Kowaslki (2015) describes Personality as the enduring patterns of thought, feeling, motivation and behaviour that are expressed in different circumstances. In other words it can be defined as differences in characteristics in a person, including their way of thinking, likes, dislikes, sociability, openness, feelings and behaviour, which make them the person they are and differentiates them from others. All these traits when brought together is known to be the personality of that particular person.
When I first questioned whether this type of test should be used for hiring purposes, I immediately thought to myself that it should not be used. The reason why is, I feel as though a personality test cannot tell an employer how good a person can do a job. It only tells them what the potential employee is like. However, after reading the textbook and finding out more about personality tests, I think that it would be somewhat helpful, as a personality test can “predict a wide range of behaviors, including the ability to relate effectively to others” (Nevid, 2015). Not only that, but a person is “more willing to disclose personal information on paper-and-pencil tests than when facing an
The word personality is known as quite a diverse concept and can be described differently in accordance to different people, it comes from the word persona which is a Latin term and is referred to as a mask which actors use when performing. Based on this it could be concluded that characteristics which are visible along with external characteristics (the aspects of us in which can be seen by others) is what personality refers to, (Schultz and Scultz, 2004). Another definition of personality by a different psychologist is “The dynamic and organized set of characteristics possessed by a person that uniquely influences his or her cognitions, motivations, and behaviours in various situations.” (Rychman, 1999: 5). There are many areas of personality
Personality, like most core Psychology subjects, is difficult to define. Personality is essentially the science of describing and understanding people. No two people are the same; even identical twins will tell you that they are very different to their identical counterpart. There are some who are anxious and there are those who are risk-takers. There are some who are carefree while there are those who are highly-strung and there are those who are over-confident while some are just plain shy. It is this issue of differences that are fundamental to the study and examination of personality.
Our personality traits can affect the way we coexist in our workplace. Our personalities and characteristics are significant to the workforce and say a lot about an individual. The personal assessment exercise is a great way to understand your traits. Understanding your personality traits bring enlightenment and self- awareness. It is important for us to except who we are and embrace it. I understand why I am a caregiver. My personality assessment says that I care about other people’s feelings more than I care about
Personality and how we behave have been of much interest to psychologists for a long time now and because of this there have been many theories and theorists that have been developed. Personality is defined as consistent behavior patterns and intrapersonal processes originating within and individual (Fritzley, 2012, p. 10). There are six main approaches to personality psychology they include: biological approach, humanistic approach, behaviorist approach, trait approach, psychoanalytic approach and cognitive approach. Each approach shines a little light onto why we behave the way we do and how our personalities are formed, the approaches contain many different theories from
Personality is looked at everyday purposely and accidently. Whether you are judging how your new professor for the semester will be, or if you are studying your best friend for a project, personality is studied abundantly. While there are many ways to define personality, there is not a worldwide definition around. Personality is the unique combination of patterns that influence behavior, thought, motivation, and emotion in a human being (boundless.com). That is one of many ways of defining personality. When examining personality, there are four main approachable theories including: The Psychodynamic Approach, The Trait Approach, The Social-Cognitive Approach, and The Humanistic Approach.
This paper introduces the overview of personality assessment approaches in use currently in society. It proceeds to review the big five personality measures, its validity in prediction of personality types (Archer, 2011). The topic on MIPS questionnaires use in personality measurements and scoring methods used by the system is reviewed. Aspects on the social desirability trait and the distortion produced in responses to evaluation questionnaires, being a significant part of the problems in personality assessment is examined. Social desirability does not have an influence on the predictive validity of personality assessments. It is not related to performance in the job. Various strategies used for reduction of social desirability have been studied. The various tools used in assessments are recapitulated including some methodological aspects (Weiner, 2009). Cultural aspects in evaluation of personality discussed are touched upon. Two case studies are used to show the real life situation of personality assessment.
The psychometric testing in other words may be called as “measurement of the mind”. During the selection process the education level, skills and experience are the things, which are normally estimated, however the behavioral traits and personality of a candidate is much more difficult to assess during an interview. As a result
Individuals do not have the same abilities and skills regarding dealing with various situations. According to Luca and McMahon (2006), personality assessment is defined as an objective method to assess and evaluate the individuals’ personalities, characteristics, and attributes. It evaluates and analyzes the individuals’ weaknesses and strengths systemically.
In order to be a contributing member of society a person must offer their skill set to the work force. This can be done in the form of a job or a career. A job and a career are seemingly similar, however, are strikingly different. Both a job and a career are places people work, however, a career offers the ability for advancement, whereas a job will always remain the same. The MyPlan website seeks to inform people of careers that fit an individual’s personality, interests, values, and skills.
The results of both my personality and career tests were either somewhat true or completely off to what I believe the results should have been. To begin with, my personality test was correct in the areas of conscientiousness (work ethic), agreeableness, and natural reactions. However, was false in the areas of openness to experience, and extraversion. The results stated that I was a traditionalist, down-to-earth, practical, and conservative individual, but, in actuality, I have an imaginative, open-minded, and experimental personality. Moreover, it also stated that I was a very reserved, formal, serious, and quiet person. This is fairly true, but I am also an outgoing, friendly, and assertive human being, who likes to work with others.
Personality tests give employers an opportunity to have a regulated way of assessing someone's preferences and how they are most likely to behave in a work environment. A number of employers make use of personality tests early on in selecting the kind of employees they want, and will then make a follow up by conducting an interview into the "red flags" or the areas that might be of concern as shown by the results of the personality test (Van Der Merwe, 2002).
If someone told me that my personality was the only reason that I should not take a job, I would probably look elsewhere anyway (Honestly, I would probably be happy they did not take me anyway…if that is their attitude why would I want to work for them?). This is something I want to do, and something I’m passionate about, so I would not let that stop me. I am low on extraversion, yet all my jobs so far have been positions where I interact with the public. I even feel that I do well at them – 4 years guarding and the regular members are more like family and friends. I’ve also gotten high ratings at my customer service job. People cannot judge how successful an applicant will be in the position based on one personality assessment. I stand by my opinion – in the future I will not let something as simple as a personality test keep me from pursuing my dream
While many different business use some form of assessments before considering a potential employee for employment, are they really necessary; and if so why? Also, what consequences could one face if they refused to take these test, and how would it affect the business; would it be a positive or negative effect? As we’re all aware when applying for that perfect dream job we know that most business require some form of an assessment, or personality test to see what the future hold for their business; before making a final determination on their selected candidates to fill their open positions. However, some of the test they require to some people may be just invasion of the constitutional rights, or even possibly determined to be a form of discrimination; because the test may prevent some people from landing that job that they are most qualified for from the start. However, it’s a way for companies to weed out those employees that may turn out to be a mismatch to what the company’s qualifications, and skills requirement are to move their business in the direction of success. This is why so
