Imagine that people of all ages are being harassed just because of not only their sexuality, but their identity. LGBTQ stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer. Individuals that are apart of this organization are bullied at work, school and even everyday life. Some dislike the LGBTQ because it goes against their religion so they choose to be mean.People bully, harass, and violate LGBTQ human rights because they don’t agree with who they are. Bullying LGBTQ is wrong because no one should be subjected to cruel treatment.

Bullying has been a crime for many years, yet what exactly are we doing to stop it? The most dangerous type of bullying is physical bullying. Google defines physical bullying as “using one’s body and physical bodily acts to exert power over peers.” Examples of physical bullying is punching, kicking, slapping and shoving. Bullies are quickly to judge other kids because of their disabilities, “Oh he can’t read, he’s so dumb!” not knowing exactly what they’re going through. People who bully other kids might be experiencing domestic violence or suffering from mental issues. Bullying is a situation that happens across the nation. Most people turn a blind eye when it comes to bullying. Bullying is something that needs to be talked about more than it is. Children and teens harm their self because of bullies. Especially students that have been physically and verbally hurt while getting bullied. Bullying to me is the most hurtful way of communicating between students, especially high school students. Were you bullied in school? Tormented, tortured, or terrorized? If you have, you’re not the only one. Over three million students in America get bullied each year. Bullying is the act of using one's power and assets to initiate harmful behaviors onto other people to get them to respond or act the way the initiator wants them to. It’s harmful and destructive behavior that sadly affects a lot of teens. The problem with bullying is that it happens so often, yet there are little acts of resistance against it. I believe there are many solutions to help minimize harmful behaviors. Solutions like classes talking about bullying, counseling, and overall action against obviously toxic people and actions.

As parents, it is our natural instinct to protect our children from harm or potential threats. They are often referred to as a piece of our heart that is walking and talking in the outside world. Therefore; it is simple to treat our children as if they are fragile, comparable to a delicate piece of art that should be handled with extreme care. However, by doing so we are not preparing them for the real world. Parents should aid children in building an armor to protect them from the often-cruel society, which they will eventually journey out alone in. Instead of placing these children behind bulletproof glass, just as one would do with the priceless piece of art, we need to teach them how to deflect negativity and accept disappointments. Once they venture off to school, a new challenge presents as we entrust their care to teachers and administrators with some students spending more time in their care than with their parents. Therefore, it is critical that schools maintain a safe environment for their development. One way schools maintain safety is to identify and respond to bullying behavior as outlined in all school handbooks. News outlets have ensured that we understand the significance of the bully issues facing our children; however, I challenge everyone to closely examine the information communicated. Where is the line between bullying and routine life experience with disappointment and hurt feelings? Bullying is present in schools; however, the incidents are not as rampant as reported due to what is classified as bullying behavior. Over classification of the word “bullying” discounts the impacts of actual incidents of bullying.

What if you were terrified to go to your school every day? 160,000 students miss school each day because they get bullied and are scared of what will happen (“Bullying Statistics”). Bullying has been a major problem in schools for far too long. Students should not be scared to go to a place that is supposed to be safe and where they can express themselves. Students that bully never get the punishment they deserve, which causes them to continue to act. When you go to school, you should know that if you are getting treated in a horrific way, the people who were treating you that way will get punished. Students who bully should be suspended from school.

Teachers and parents must understand the importance of looking and listening for signs and behaviors of bullying. This will help tackle the issue before it gets serious and someone gets hurt.
