As you and your family walk through the store, a man dressed all in black walks in and pulls out an assault rifle and starts firing. People fall to the ground, including your mother, killed by the raging bullets. You and your surviving family hide, hoping to not be seen by the gunman. By this time the Police have arrived, ending the carnage. You were lucky, although others were not. Reports later prove this man was mentally ill and was able to acquire weapons without questioning. How could this of happened to your family and countless other families? The answer is the lack of gun control.

Gun ownership is embedded in the fabric of America. The United States has the highest gun ownership rate in the world with 88 guns per 100 people. This is a staggering amount of firearms in the U.S. which our forefathers would 've never imagined when writing the 2nd Amendment. The 2nd Amendment states that “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Not everyone interprets this right the same way. As the population increases its stocks on firearms, a significant number of citizens are at risk of being harmed. According to statistics, “In 2000, almost 30,000 persons died from firearm injuries in the United States more than the number of deaths from, alcohol abuse, or drug abuse… [in spite of] almost 20,000 laws and regulations regulating gun usage to some degree” (Kwon and Baack). Though several individuals are in fear of losing guns as weapons for protection, a greater number of laws will continue to be useful in maintaining the security of citizens upon significant new laws addressing gun control. Although the existence of guns is necessary to protect bear arms, gun control laws help reduce violence, decrease the homicide rate, and help prevent accidents from around the globe. New gun control laws should be enforced to ensure the safety of the entire population, and most importantly to prevent any gun violence as necessary to help save the lives of the innocent.

According to Nicholas Kristof’s article “our blind spot about guns” gun control is a lot like cars regulation such that if we can regulate cars we can regulate guns. It took a lot of time and effort but thanks to regulations cars are safer than they were many years ago, and the same is very possible with guns. We need to keep our country safe. The first steps to gun control are improving on background checks and also requiring trigger locks on all guns.

Over 13,286 people yearly die from gun violence. In 2016 over 700 people were killed due to guns in the streets of chicago. Which is the most restricted place to purchase weapons. So they would get it from other ways. Such as buying out of state, or the black market. People would have to resort to these dangerous tactics if only there were less gun control laws. When there can be a simple solution that is not looked at. A solution that could completely fix the problem by the way it started.

The use of firearms have been around since the year it was introduced in 1364. It has helped many countries expand their tactics in wars and battles. It may have it positive reasoning and points, but should gun control laws be enforced or lifted? Revitalizing the gun control laws is necessary due to change over time, people’s health shifts; thus, there should be a renewal proceedings every three or five years. (introduction)

In America today, there are a lot of problems that cause our country to divide. One of which is the distribution and use of firearms. Many people in the U.S. own guns or at least know someone who does. The banning of guns is a discussion that many people are taking sides on. There are many reasons why guns cannot be banned. Imagine walking into a Walmart on a normal morning. Little did you know that in the back of the store, someone was being background checked so that they could purchase a gun. Even though they had a criminal record, they were still able to walk out of that Walmart with a gun in their possession. In the twenty first century, this could happen in so many different stores that you probably didn't know this occurred.

Given recent circumstances, it’s obvious that reform is desperately necessary to improve the overall security of our communities. As a senior at Aberdeen High School, it is crucial that we work together to relocate our energy to improving general security. Although there are regulations in place on owning a gun, the enforcement of it is highly neglected. 65% of juvenile offenders have access to at least three illegal firearms (Gun Laws), and if there were tighter policies and increased security of how these weapons were being distributed, that number could potentially decrease. In the United State, we have a gun violence issue. As a society, we have increasingly more examples of individuals tragically dying due to the use of guns. This has become a polarizing issue for this country, as we grapple with the issue of gun control. A very simple answer would be ban all guns from individuals, but unfortunately, for some, this statement is in direct violation of our Second Amendment. Gun safety is one of the most important methods for reducing the number of gun deaths. Proper education about the care and keeping of firearms makes gun ownership notably safer. Firearms can be used for entertainment such as hunting, target shooting, and competition shooting. Such activities can be harmless, as long as the individual is responsible and knowledgeable of their firearm. In my opinion, guns don’t kill people, people kill people. If we educate our youth on proper gun safety, then we can prevent gun related
