On August 6, 1945, the United States did something no one can or ever will forget. It was the day that Americans were out to get the revenge that they had been wanting for awhile, ever since the December 7th attack on Pearl Harbor in the year of 1941. President Roosevelt had just died in April of 1945, which resulted in Harry Truman as the current president when we took the move to bomb the two cities. To get the revenge that the United States had been wanting on Japan for 4 years, we decided to drop atomic bombs at daybreak. It was a move that would have a lasting impression. World War II was still going on and didn’t seem to have an end in sight. An American B-29 bomber officially dropped the world’s first electronically deployed atomic bomb over the Japanese city of Hiroshima at exactly 8:16a.m. (Japanese time.) The citizens of Hiroshima were just starting to get up and going on a beautiful Sunday morning. It completely destroyed at least 90% of the city and immediately killed almost 80,000 people. If the citizens of Hiroshima did not die right after the attack, they would later pass away later from the radiation from the blast. The bomb that was dropped became known as ‘Little Boy.’ This name was given to the bomb because the military was using the name of ‘little boy’ as a code name for dropping the bomb.
