It is no secret that exercise is one of the key ingredients to a long and healthy life and this is also true for our pets. Unlike Humans, Cats do not need to do 20 minutes of aerobic exercise 3 times a week to stay in shape. Nor do they need to be walked several times a day like dogs, but they do need to lead an active life. It is a challenge not only for ourselves but also our furry feline pets to get off the couch and engage in some sort of cat fitness that will increase heart rates and provide a good workout.

Outdoor Cats get all the exercise they need, exploring, chasing leaves, birds, flying insects, climbing trees and just being themselves-curious, stalking and attacking pretend or real prey which includes scratching, clawing, chasing, and climbing. There are seldom "fat cats" ever found whom enjoy the outdoors.

"Feline Obesity" is more of a concern with indoor Cats, however they can also be healthy and content, provided they get exercise in other forms. It can help if your indoor cat has a companion pet and if you can encourage them to play for an hour or so each day, such as chasing each other or running after and swatting toys etc. As well, Cats' exercise best when they are doing something that is natural to them, like predatory acts, stalking or climbing etc. However, it is going to take some effort on your behalf to ensure that your pet participates in your cat fitness program.
