Every day is a constant battle to choose the healthy food in the dining commons, to find the time to exercise can be difficult if you have a full time job as well as school work, and to fight any and all chocolate cravings. The third battle always proves toughest, at least for me. Whenever I feel stressed or overwhelmed, chocolate seems like the best solution. The times I lose the battle to my chocolate cravings, I always feel pretty guilty. But who doesn’t? Anything that tastes that delicious must not be a good idea. Though we have all come to accept that rule as truth, there is reason to hope! Giving in to some chocolate cravings could be a real gift to your body. Chocolate does indeed have some natural health benefits. It seems too good to be true, but it is! Science is now on chocolate’s side. More and more research puts chocolate in a better light. In moderation, chocolate can do wonders for your heart, mind, skin and more. People work their minds hard every day, and the heart should never be denied any help. I think we all need dark chocolate in our lives. In order to maintain a healthy lifestyle, people need to participate in at least 30 minutes of exercise every day. Unfortunately, many people forget to recharge the energy their bodies lose during a rough workout, which is just as important to stay healthy. Most of the sweaty people that you see leaving the gym will go straight to the vending machine and pick up water, Gatorade, or some sort of
In the end both articles have found that consumption of chocolate positively changes mood. In “Everyday Mood and Emotions after Eating a Chocolate Bar or an Apple” by Dorothee Dettmer and Michael Macht the research was only done on 37 females. Whereas the second research “The Sweet Life: The Effect of Mindful Chocolate Consumption on Mood” by Brian P. Meier, Sabrina W. Noll, and Oluwatobi J. Molokwu was done on 258 participants 167 females and 90 males. Research one (Dettmer and Macht) studied their results to eating a chocolate bar vs. apple vs. nothing and research two used chocolate bars vs. cracker. However, research two also had another group category where they had a mindful and non-mindful condition group. This second condition were told to listen to an audio recording that instructed them to eat the food slowly, and to think about how the product was produced. Both Research used questionnaires before and after eating each item to see what the subjects moods were after.

If you had to choose in between skittles or and apple right now what would you choice? I would choses Skittles even though I know they are bad for me. That’s one reason I think changing food policies would influence people's food choices than just education.
Americans love to eat anything crazy. If a meal that has triple-wrapped bacon hot-dog fried in panko crumbs stuffed cheese that is filled with diabetes, Americans would devour it. Unhealthy foods have been apart of the American diet as a commonality, more than healthy foods should be. Unhealthy junk foods consist of unnecessary fats, oils, sugars, high-fructose corn syrup, MSG, and many more. Healthy foods have been increasingly disappearing from our restaurants every second. However, young people need a healthy diet to live a long and fulfilling life from self-inflicting diseases. Authors like Jane E. Brody, Mark Bittman, Alice Waters, and Katrina Heron all advocate for healthy foods. Jane E. Brody in “Attacking the Obesity Epidemic by First Figuring Out Its Cause” describes the cause of the obesity epidemic and proposes many solutions against it. Alice Waters and Katrina Heron in “No Lunch Left Behind” discuss the accessible healthy foods students are in dire need of instead of the processed trash. Mark Bittman in “Bad Food? Tax it, and Subsidize Vegetables” elaborates on the many benefits from taxing “bad food” and subsidizing vegetables such as reducing healthcare costs, improving health, and many more. All of these authors fight for a healthy American diet. As a fellow human being, this epidemic must be solved and it starts with youth. Many schools’ lunches and available snacks/foods are more unhealthy than to be nutritional. However, schools do try to combat junk food. Based on school data, surveys, and nationwide statistics, unhealthy foods should be taxed and healthy, natural foods should be subsidized and be more available for schools and eventually all people for a healthier lifestyle.
As a nation, Americans revel in the consumption of junk food. These extremely unhealthy foods are often present during many various occasions, such as sports events, movies, and parties. When a person craves a quick snack, junk food is the ideal solution. However, beyond the satisfying taste of foods such as Doritos and potato chips lies a very serious problem. These foods can lead to physical disrepair, sickness, and even death. Yet many Americans remain oblivious to this nationwide issue and allow it to remain unaddressed. The crisis of junk food in America needs to be resolved immediately. To go more in depth, it is imperative that the nation resolves this issue relatively soon, primarily because the excessive consumption of
Is chocolate milk good for you? Well, some people say it’s good and some say it’s bad. I think it’s bad for you because it can increase your obesity and diabetic risk, has lots of sugar, gives you Osteoporosis, and it has saturated fats. Everyone wants a happy healthy life. With chocolate milk, you don’t get that.
For centuries, chocolate has been one of the favorite sweet- tasting treats in the world. Today, chocolate has become so common in our culture that it is nearly impossible to go through your day without encountering chocolate in your house, office, cafeterias, stores, and schools. Chocolate has many purposes including: improving mood, lowering blood pressure, improving a person’s ability to clot, and it helps the body repair from free radicals. Alberto Villodo summed it up best when he said, “We are spirits in a body. The reason we came here to this World and to this Earth from the Spirit World is so we could experience chocolate, among other things – good coffee, the senses.” (“Heart Health Benefits of Chocolate”)

Healthy food should be accessible to everyone. If healthy food isn’t available for everyone all it’s going to do is cause more and more health problems. If we made healthy organic food the same price as cheap unhealthy food there would be a big difference in the health of our country. It’s completely unfair to make healthy food too expensive for other people to buy, which causes them to buy cheap unhealthy food, like off a dollar menu at a fast food restaurant. This issue needs to be put to an end.
Cocoa is very high in antioxidants. In fact, Cocoa has a greater gram per gram antioxidant level than fruit juice. One nine-year study in the journal Circulation Heart Failure found women who ate one to two servings of high-quality chocolate per week had a 32 percent lower risk of developing heart failure than those who said no to the cocoa.1 And a second long-term study found that men who ate the most chocolate–about 1/3 of a cup of dark chocolate chips per week–had a 17 percent reduced risk of stroke compared to those who didn’t consume chocolate. 2 In order to receive the health benefit from cocoa you must consume at least seventy-four percent or high when eating chocolate. In other words more bitter the chocolate the better it is for you.
Throughout Kristen Bruin article she elaborates how Chocolate can be considered “addictive” in our body system when she writes “Chocolate cravings are often episodic and fluctuate with hormonal changes just before and during the menses, which suggests a hormonal link and confirms the assumed gender-specific nature of chocolate cravings. Chocolate contains several biologically active constituents(methylxanthines, biogenic amines, and cannabinoid-like fatty acids)” (Bruin 4). These facts help illustrate the amount of chemicals,

When something is detrimental to our health, we strive to avoid it whenever possible to extend our lives. We know that exposure to known cancer causing agents such as asbestos and lead paint is harmful; therefore, we do not expose ourselves to the risk and we certainly do not eat it. This seems simple; however, what do we do when that harmful vice is food? We cannot stop eating; instead, we must closely examine what we are putting into our bodies. When faced with the choice of a burger or grilled vegetables, most would choose the burger. These choices have lead us down a path littered with food related diseases, illnesses and rising healthcare costs. The state of Americans health is declining due to increasing obesity, diabetes and
Baking is a skill that I have always been eager to learn. This past summer, I learned that I am unfortunately, intolerant to dairy and have a gluten sensitivity. Most places do not offer gluten-free and dairy-free options so it has been difficult for me to find baked goods that I am able to eat. I have been meaning to learn some recipes that I can bake and eat that work with my dietary needs. Many of the vegan and gluten-free chocolate cakes that I have tried so far have been very good, and is something that I want to try making myself.
Everyone seems to love chocolate, and it is one of the most purchased treats on Valentine’s Day for friends, family, husbands and wives. When people are stressed, or feel like they need a comfort food, chocolate is one of the first things that comes to mind, and is reached to soothe a troubled emotional heart. In the past, chocolate has been considered to be a ‘sweet junk food’ that is high in sugar and calories with no nutritional value. But due to recent nutritional and scientific research people should be eating a bit of dark chocolate for the antioxidants and heart healthy benefits. Chocolate has recently been researched in the science world for its high levels of antioxidants,
