Electronic cigarettes, also known as "e-cigarettes", is heading for regulation after renewed debate about its use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
According to SF Gate, discussions regarding tobacco use has hit meeting rooms. According to the FDA, regulating e-cigarettes starting this summer can reduce sales and harm of tobacco products.
While e-cigarettes still delivers nicotine, it does filter out tar, carbon monoxide and other dangerous toxic chemicals found in tobacco cigarettes. FDA believes that the public is better off with e-cigarettes, and it seems like the public is in agreement with this decision.
Jonathan Foulds, professor of public health and psychiatry at Pennsylvania State University, gave the following statement on the latest FDA regulation plans.

But the harm isn’t such a disaster as death” from smoking."
The Penn State professor is a researcher of tobacco-cessation and he's seen the amount of skeptism that e-cigarretes brings. According to skeptics, e-cigarettes reinforces smoking and is a gateway for young lads to buy regular cigarettes.
However, this statement by skeptics is widely debated and has always appeared since the first e-cigarette was publicized in China.
China is getting all the blame by skeptics for inventing the e-cigarette. These types of cigarettes are battery-powered that coverts nicotine into vapor, making it allegedly safer than smoking regular cigarettes. The e-cigarettes first came to the US in 2007, amid speculation that the device could reduce tobacco use and in long term, save lives.
Media reports are citing that potentially over 20 million Americans are using e-cigarettes. As BBC reports, a decline in smokers using programs to help with quitting is leading to a rise in e-cigarette use.
Dr. Andrew Carnon, a Public Health Consultant, said a trend is occurring in Scotland, among other countries, however its effectiveness is still up for
There are many more harms which can be caused by the Electronic cigarettes. To make electronic cigarettes less harmful to the body there should be more battery installment and charging instructions, removal of carcinogens and other toxic chemicals in the electronic cigarettes and the removal of poisonous metals.
Originally manufactured in China in 2003, electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) were manufactured as a better way of inhaling nicotine without the health effects of smoking tobacco. They were developed to provide the tobacco user with a device that would heat up liquid nicotine and other chemicals including carcinogens that once heated would create a vapor in which the user would inhale. Unlike cigarettes, nothing is burned, and there is no smoke released from the device. E-cigarettes are marketed to the consumer as a better way of quitting smoking or just sustaining the craving of tobacco by allowing the smoker the pleasure of nicotine in reduced amounts. Currently, the FDA Center for Tobacco Products regulates cigarettes, tobacco, and smokeless tobacco and only e-cigarettes that are marketed to the consumer for therapeutic purposes are regulated by the FDA Center for Drug Evaluation and Research.
The e-cigarette format, however, does not eliminate concerns regarding public and individual health risks. The World Health Organization has called for e-cigarette usage to be monitored in the same way as more conventional tobacco products,(23) the US FDA is advocating for more research,(24) and there has been a dramatic increase in analyses of the chemical, physiological, psychological and socio-cultural aspects of e-cigarettes.(2-7,9-12,14-21,24-52)
While e-cigarettes contain fewer toxic chemicals, findings suggest that potential potential increase in harmful cigarette use may follow.
According to SF Gate, discussions regarding tobacco use have hit meeting rooms. The idea is, while e-cigarettes still delivers nicotine to the body, it does however filter out tar, carbon monoxide and other dangerous toxic chemicals found in tobacco cigarettes. And it's because of this why, theoretically, the public is better off with e-cigarettes.
An increasing number of physicians and scientists agree that e-cigarettes are a healthier alternative, and they say these products could end a major health problem. The Royal College of Physicians say, "Electronic cigarettes and other nicotine-containing devices offer massive potential to improve public health, by providing smokers with a much safer alternative to tobacco" (Jen Christensen, sec. 4).
This study really opened my eyes to a new prospective on vaping and the use of e-cigarettes. The use of vapes should be taken cautiously and not displayed for our youth to see so vaguely. Though, it has shown me that vaping and e-cigs have a positive effect on helping traditional cigarette smokers stop smoking. These studies will take us much further into the pros and cons of regulating vapes and
Although E-cigarettes, also known as electronic cigarettes, are generally bad for your health, they do have some beneficial uses. The biggest benefit would helping people stop smoking regular tobacco cigarettes. Although e-cigs aren't harmless, they do offer a safer, and healthier alternative to regular tobacco cigarettes. In fact, Webmd states, “people who wanted to quit smoking were 60% more likely to succeed if they used an e-cigarette to would be quitters who used anti-smoke nicotine patches or gum.” This
The tar and the toxic is what make traditional cigarettes bad. Electronic cigarettes do not produce tar, the leading cause of cancer in smokers, thus causing supporters to believe that it's a safer alternative. Traditional cigarettes contain over 7,000 chemicals while electronic cigarettes generally only contain 3 ingredients plus nicotine. These 3 ingredients are usually marketed as food grade quality and are common food additives. The nicotine is usually marketed as pharmaceutical grade helping supporters believe that the indigents used are safe. Short term studies show that electronic cigarettes are 96% less harmful than traditional
Each month, the scientific literature surrounding e-cigarettes grows and shows that the e-cigarette causes less harm than smoking. We have seen more than 150 published scientific studies associated with
the world were the number of smokers is on the rise it would prove to be of great benefit if physicians ask more questions about the smoking habits of their young patients. E-cigarettes are still harmful to your system, but not as bad as the hundreds of different things that is in tobacco products.
With technological innovations happening everyday, many products are being created promoting health. Among these products is what is known as a e-cigarette. With no tobacco, tar, or even smoke, it has to be safe. Or is it? E-cigarettes were first introduced in 2006 as an alternative to smoking tobacco products. These e-cigarettes use vapor as opposed to smoke. The user still can receive their fill of nicotine with an added bonus of a flavor choice. With there first launch they weren 't seen as a breakthrough to many people and quickly was pushed aside. However, with growing technological advancements they have become a trending alternative to the normal cigarette. Many are quick to assume that the lack of actual tobacco results in a less dangerous product. But is it actually what it seems?
On the second study of e-cigarettes they still came up with 3.3 micrograms per cubic meter of nicotine levels in the air. In the study involving smoking regular tobacco cigarettes the amount of nicotine levels were ten times higher at almost 32 micrograms per cubic meter (Reuters, 2014). E-cigarettes did not change the amount of carbon monoxide or other gases in the air and did not produce some particulate matter that regular cigarettes do at about seven times more. In conclusion with this study exposure to nicotine is lower when compared to exposure from tobacco smoke, and nicotine is relatively safer when compared to other dangerous toxicants in tobacco smoke according to Goniewicz (Reuter, 2014).
E-cigarette is believed to greatly reduce on the health effects associated with tobacco smoking. However, e-cigarette has been criticized as a leading cause of smoking among the youth due to its flavor as well as its novel appearance and campaigns. It is also believed to pose some health risks. Despite such drawbacks, e-cigarette has recently gained a lot of popularity and subsequent growth.
Cigarette smoking is something people all over the world have been doing for about 2000 years. Back in 2003, the first electronic cigarette was successfully created by a gentleman named Hon Lik. Lik was a 52 year old pharmacist at the time, whom of which was also a smoker. The inspiration behind making the electronic cigarette came after Lik’s father passed away from lung cancer due to him also being a heavy smoker. “A Historical Timeline of Electronic Cigarettes.” cassia.org. Consumer Advocates for Smoke Free Alternatives Association, 15 June 2017. The idea behind creating this device was to give smokers a way to still ingest nicotine, the most addictive chemical in tobacco cigarettes, without the countless negative health effects that
