Would you care if two homosexuals were getting married? Why does it matter what others think about their love life? Who are we to be the judge of how they live their life? Did you know that same-sex marriage was allowed because the U.S. Supreme Court decided to go along the fourteenth amendment? I believe that the next amendment should about the marriage equality act. I have an opinion that a lot of Christian people wouldn’t have when coming upon this topic.
The definition of marriage is the state of being united as spouses in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law. “Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way, the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.” - Romans 1:26-27. In the Bible, people are not condemned for being attracted to people of the same sex but were condemned if they had sexual intercourse with a person of the same sex. The Bible teachings honestly believed that the homosexual feelings would pass over time. The Bible does not prohibit same-sex marriage because there was no type of relationships that happened like that before. Marriage equality is an issue that affects people within all of the communities surrounding us. Kennedy wrote, “In forming a marital union, two people become
Gay marriage is a topic that is so often discussed by those with highly diverse opinions. As some people agree with those of the same sex pursuing marriage, others do not seem to feel the same way. This fact can apply to individuals as well as entire countries. Several of these individuals and countries originally agreed with the subject of gay marriage as others were required to be forced due to the fact that their ban on gay marriage was decided as unconstitutional. Same-sex marriage is a controversial issue in today's world where some choose to agree with the decision of homosexual people and some choose to oppose it, all doing so usually for different reasons.
To contravene God and the bible must be the incipient trend since homosexuals celebrate it and feel that is it ok to get espoused under God. Marriage is a sacred commitment between man and woman and the legalization of gay espousement threatens the Americans religious rights. This topic matters because Christians feel as if getting married under God is an act of dishonor and that it is irrelevant. Marriage should stay between a man and woman because that is verbalized in the bible, children are more likely to live a normal life, and religious beliefs are not being ignored.
Some people in today's society believe that marriage between between two men or two women infringes upon their religious freedom instilled to them by this country. Todays law states that gay marriage is legal in all fifty states, however is does not specifically say that people can not refuse to bake a cake for such ceremony. Which allowed for religious freedom to be a big contributing factor in these cases. Which caused Christian Americans to believe they could discriminate against gays, by not baking cakes for their weddings, interfering with the gays personal freedoms. In this great nation, built upon freedom, one should not be able to deny anyone the cake of their dreams solely based on their sexual orientation. Unfortunately, people are able to get away with discrimination against gay couples and their wedding through religion, alternative arguments given by lawyers defending those who are refusing to bake cakes, and the judges proceeding the cases.
When the idea of marriage first came to light there was no church involvement. A couple simply moved in together and were considered married. Woman had no say as to whom they were married to, their father or head of house made that decision for them for political, economical or social gain. The women were considered property whilst the male was not exclusive to the marriage and could have many additional spouses. In the 50’s interracial marriage was illegal since then society realised that this was an unjust law that denied equal rights to couples who loved each other. The issue of gay marriage is no different. Denying marriage to two individuals who love each other is to deny them a fundamental freedom. Since these times marriage has changed dramatically, it has always evolved with the culture in which it’s enacted.
Today’s society has many strong opinions on who people should marry, especially when the couple is same sex. Marriage is a commitment between two people, and overtime homosexuals have been denied their necessary rights as a human. Luckily, Americans live in a land where they can marry whomever they choose, but in many states homosexuals are left out of the deal because they choose to marry the same sex. Gay and lesbian couples a bid by laws and should be treated with the same fairness and equality as any other human being.
Francis DeBernardo, head of a LGBT Catholics organization, has said that "many gay and lesbian couples are leading lives of heroic devotion to each other, their children, and their communities. I hope and pray that you will reflect not only on the harm that this decree will cause but also the good that can occur if you withdraw it." (Crary). People who like the same sex shouldn't be categorized in society as people to be frowned upon when they lead a good example, but others disagree. This is why the discussion of same-sex couples is so controversial. Gay marriage is a very important issue in modern society in the U.S because it is more accepted than what it used to be by everyday people and household life is healthier than in opposite sex marriages; unfortunately, it is still frowned upon by many and some business owners still decline service due to discrimination.
One argument for gay marriage and the support of gay lifestyles is that homosexuals cannot help who they are since they were born that way. We should not judge their sex choices any more than someone's skin color. The Bible does not agree. It says that we are all born with the propensity to sin and we need to fight against it. Some face a desire to steal, some to lie, some to kill, and others to sin sexually.
Public Policy making is a continuous procedure and in the issue of gay marriage, it will be continue to be endless for deeming what is right and wrong in the eyes of the law and The Bible. This day and age, we now have two distinctive family frameworks; heterosexual and same sex. The more conventional method for having a family demands marriage before (or before long) sexual relations start and goes for what society frames as specific gender roles. By disregarding sexual orientation and isolating sex from reproduction as in The Bible, same sex marriage blurs the lines in regards to what the norm is (Jost,
Marriage is the legal or religious ceremony that formalizes the decision of two people to live as a married couple. Marriage should not be based on what others think. When people get married in a heterosexual union, they do it for their own happiness, not for the happiness of others. Gay marriage is the same way. Homosexuality has always been around and will continue to exist. Why should homosexuals be denied the rights of heterosexuals? No one has the right to say that homosexuals can not marry. That is discriminating against another group of individuals who want equality. Gay marriage should be accepted; people were made with the capacity to love, no one should try to change that, not the Bible, the Constitution, or anyone.
Freedom. When we think of America that word comes to mind. We live in a country behind this idea that we are supposed to be protected by commandment to have “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”. In every case this is not always true; based on race, gender, religion or sexuality. Marriage in general is based on this idea of love. Love is the core to any relationship and marriage, regardless of who the two people who are getting married are. Same-sex marriage has been a very controversial topic for many years. Being given many civil liberties, “the pursuit of happiness” specifically, should apply to all; but homosexuals are not allowed to achieve this because they are not free to marry whom they love. Also known as gay marriage, same-sex marriage has been a substantial matter because it concerns simple ethics and human rights. It is an issue that has many people voicing their opinion for what they believe in. The outbreak has been very significant and the powers of the people are causing a change in the system. The concerns on gay marriage have made it to the forefront of national headlines and many states are starting to take action. From the passing of proposition 8 to states individually making homosexual marriage legal, revolution is starting to happen. Massachusetts was the first state to legalize gay marriage, not so long after, other states joined. It will not be long before homosexual marriage is accepted worldwide. As of today there are a total of thirty seven states that have validated gay marriage. Same-sex marriage should be legalized due to the growth of our country as a whole, in order to fully understand we must look at individual rights, religion and the well-being of our society.
Today in society there are many pressures put upon people by others and their beliefs. One of the major pressures it puts on people is the pressure of homosexuality and whether it is right or wrong. Homosexuality is on the rise in the United States as well as many other countries around the world. Along with the rise of homosexuality is the rise of marriages that are taking place in these socially incorrect relationships. Throughout the country and in other countries there has been a numerous increase in the marriages of homosexuals. Same sex marriages defy the laws of Christianity, and it is immoral in the eyes of society. Homosexuality in all countries has been looked down upon
First and foremost, homosexual unions are in opposition to God’s commands in the Bible. There are many verses addressing this topic. In Leviticus 20:13 God says very plainly, “If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable.” A similar statement is made in 1 Cor 6:9-10, “Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.” God created the institution of marriage to be between one man and one woman. In Genesis 2:24 it says, “That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.” I was taught that the more important a topic is the earlier it will be discussed in the Bible, since these basic truths must be established before other topics can be built upon them. This idea of a man marrying a woman and uniting with her physically is in the second chapter of the Bible, hence we can understand the
What is the definition of marriage? Marriage has many different meanings; the dictionary states marriage as being a social union or legal contract between man and women as husband and wife called spouses that establish rights and obligations between the spouses, between the spouses and their children, and between the spouses and their in-laws. (Merriam-webster 2013) However, times are changing as the gay life style becomes more accepted by society
Most homophobic or religious people will probably tell you that gay marriages are sins against God, therefore should not be legalized. Thier claims quoted by Congregation for Doctrine of the Faith and approved by Pope John Paul the second, states “Marriage was established by the creator with it’s own nature, essential properties and purpose. No ideology can erase from the human spirit the certainly that marriage exists solely between a man and a women.”( Card Joseph ) Stating that since life is born between a man and woman, gay marriage would go against the nature of that. Despite opposition, I am still convinced that marriage for same-sex couples should be legal. Just because some groups of people dont like the idea of same-sex privilages shouldn’t change the fact that marriage is marriage. In the document :”Cleveland Board of Education v. LaFleur” ,it further proves this statement by simply stating: "Freedom of personal choice in matters of marriage and family
One of the common debates within the topic of gay marriage is whether it can be deemed a natural relationship. Conservative Protestants, believing in the inherent supremacy of the Bible, reference Romans 1:26 on this issue which says, “That is why God abandoned them to their
