Guns have been a part of history since the first firearm was made in 1364. Over the last few years there have been many shootings across the Country. This makes many people view guns negatively, others not so much. I am a proud supporter of the second amendment. Gun control is a waste of time because there are so many ways to learn about guns, it is the person who does the crime and also it is in our second amendment. Gun control was a very hot topic the last few years, which in turn have given guns a bad reputation to many people. Personally, I do not believe that guns are bad since they do not control what they do the operator of a gun controls what that gun does. The guns that I have one sitting under my bed and the other in the corner in the guest bedroom, and I can guarantee that since they have been put there they have not fired a single shot on their own. Guns have saved many lives in life or death situations, from preventing a school shooter from killing anyone else, to holding the robber up at someone’s home until the authorities arrive to deal with the situation, guns have also helped hunters provide food for their families since it was invented. There is no reason for someone to miss use a gun when there are classes that help them learn about guns and how to handle them. There are many courses offered to anyone that wants to learn how to handle a gun properly. In order to go hunting in South Carolina you are required by SCDNR to take a hunter’s education course and successfully complete the test before you are able to legally hunt. The NRA describes High-powered semiautomatic rifles and shotguns are used to hunt and are used in target shooting tournaments each year. [NRA] Before anyone is able to legally carry a pistol legally they are required to successfully complete the CWP class, and the person has to be at least twenty-one years of age. Teaching kid’s firearm safety at a young age ensures that they are more likely to remember how to handle a firearm when they are able to use one on their own. When a disaster happens because of someone going and using guns to kill people all the news reporters seem to talk about is gun control and that someone should push harder for it to be
Gun control has been a long debate to determine if it’s better to have stricter access to firearms. America is one of the few countries that has gun rights embedded in their constitution. But what makes the US exceptional is that it has the right to keep and bear arms, other countries do not provide the right to have access to them, but rather, the government is allowed to regulate its use. The right to bear arms has also been the cause of growing violence and crime, at least according to anti-gun lobbyists. Citizens should be aware the dangers and harm that guns present to society. Controlling the sale of firearms can greatly decrease the number of violent crimes.
The second amendment states that right to keep and bear arms. This law has been etched in the United States history for centuries thus creating the highly popularized debate whether they should be gun control laws. Members and advocates of the National Rifle Association would argue against gun control. Their aim is to shift the focus away from guns and their destructive potential but instead have people focus on the criminal and shift the argument to them being mentally incapable or suggest that there is a lack of security within schools (Henigan 2009). Voices of the NRA do make valid points, however it prevents them from seeing the bigger picture. We as a society have drifted from the crux of the issue, which is, when put simply, guns are dangerous. In America, guns are extremely dangerous. Anyone who chooses to Google “gun violence statistics” and find the official research study done by the National Institute of Justice it would show you that 15 of the 25 worst mass shootings in the last 50 years took place in America. It also vividly reminds us of how guns are easily obtained. The mass shootings that took place in America over the last
All guns have the potential to be dangerous and should be handled with care. Guns have been part of American life for as long as people can remember. For most people guns are perceived as very dangerous and harmful. However, that is not true; guns can be dangerous, but only if they are in the wrong hands. Owning a gun is right that every American should be able to take pride in having. Guns are used for self-defense, hunting, law enforcement and other uses. The right to own a gun is protected in the 2nd constitutional amendment. Therefore, banning guns from being owned or purchased is wrong and unconstitutional. Gun control in the United States should be abolished.
“A series of terror attacks that killed more than 120 people, ISIS claimed responsibility for the horrific Paris attacks,” (Castillo and et. al.). Even though more guns will give more chances of murders, will more gun control laws stop people by getting them, will we be safer without legal guns, and why should we give up our right to bear arms.
Over the past two decades, rising gun control controversy among the American people alters the way Americans foresee firearms. Even today, controversies continue. The Second Amendment of the Bill of Rights states that "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. (Brooks np)." In January of 2016, Obama announced his gun control plan. His plan would more strictly enforce current laws, including firearms (Smith np). People deserve the right to have firearms for the ability to protect, defend, and entertain themselves and others. The way people obtain information about firearms is the biggest controversy among the American people. The thought that "guns kill people," influences people, when in all reality, they need to understand that "people kill people." Although there are around 10,000 people killed in the United States each year from firearms, guns are not the primary conflict in the killings, the people behind the guns are (Brooks np).
Assault rifles are becoming the weapon of choice in these recent mass shootings. Since 2004, out of 48 mass shootings 13 of them included assault rifles. The assault rifle can be bought in many states starting at the age of 18. According to the gun control group, since 2009 individuals under the age of 21 committed two mass shootings with an assault rifle. Only one of the two rifles used was bought legally, which means just a single shooting where at least four individuals were shot and slaughtered could have been prevented. Everytown for Gun Safety reports, since 2009 there have been 156 mass shootings, eleven of these shootings were committed by individuals under the age of 21. Out of those 156 incidents 11 of those the shooter used an assault rifle. Although You have to be 21 to
Firearms have been in our culture since the beginning of time. Guns have been used for many things from hunting and sports, and in some cases, personal protection. The Greek philosopher Aristotle wrote in politics, “That ownership of weapons was necessary for true citizenship.”(The History) Now there are laws, people, and groups trying to take “the right to bear arms” away from U.S. citizens. Gun control is not the answer to the whole gun problem. The laws can help prevent criminal activity, with some positive effects that gun control has. But gun control is not going to solve anything.
In the United States, we have issues that affect many Americans in their day to day lives. They live always wondering when the next breaking news alert will show up on their television, smart phone, or computer; listening to the constant blast of sirens running through the downtown city streets, from police cars, firetrucks, and ambulances. Anything from burglaries, high speed car chases, or shootings keep these emergency personnel on the clock 24/7. The government has many laws established to prevent these outbreaks yet they still constantly happen. Although many of our laws do keep must of our daily lives in a safer routine such as traffic laws and laws meant to keep humans civil such as laws about murder and theft, you would think
Coming from a family that owns guns, the topic of gun ownership has become more pertinent than ever. From a young age, my grandfather instructed me on the proper care and usage of firearms. However, due to a death within the family years ago due to gun violence, the repercussions of the Second Amendment have become more palpable. Approximately 73% of the 16,459 homicides could have been avoided in 2016 solely if guns didn't exist, and 11,961 lives potentially saved according to data calculated from the Federal Bureau of Investigation dataset. Whether or not the people of the United States agree with more gun control, the choice of allowing guns to the public puts everyone at a potential risk of encountering a firearm related crime. The glaring need for improved gun control within the U.S. became apparent in the recent
Gun control continues be a controversial and divisive topic in United States. The United States is the country with the highest rate of civilian gun ownership. Many people buy guns to protect themselves and their families. Some people buy guns for suicide, and some for crimes. Guns can bring security to many people, as well as insecurity for many. Should people be allow to have guns?
Guns have been in this country for years, you can’t just take them away. Gun Control should be enforced but it shouldn’t take away the right to bear arms. Gun laws should be there but for the criminal people. Gun control will please many people. Gun control may anger many people. Many accidents were caused from guns and gun control will help stop many of these accidents. Guns sometime have power over people and they can’t control what they are doing. Many people use guns for protect and/or hunting.
Did you know that in America, less than 1% of all deaths are caused by any type of firearm? Though people agree that all Firearms have the potential to cause harm to people some believe that If more people carry and have guns, then the risk of harm from guns will go down and others that if all gun owners were required to turn in their guns then the risk will be lessened. Some say that the laws concerning firearms need to be less restrictive on a national scale, while others say that gun laws need to be more restrictive and should be made by states.
A controversial topic in today’s society is gun control. Gun control is not just one issue, it consists of many. Americans feel that the government is slowly taking control of their entire lives. Gun control, a topic that has been debated in government law making for a myriad of years, has been controversial to United State citizens who feel their right to bear arms is now infringed upon by government.
A gun is a very dangerous weapon that needs to be taken care of by a responsible person. The person behind the trigger must know exactly how to hold, use, and shoot a firearm. Many people have been killed or severely injured when encountering one of these deadly weapons. Gun control is no joke, our politicians need to unite and help our country become a safer, gun reduced place. We as a nation are tired of waking up and casually hearing about another mass shooting that could have been prevented.
Did you know that there are over 300 million guns in America? That is almost one for every person in the country! Much like cars, Americans have a several century old love affair for their guns, well most of America anyway. Guns are actually very controversial. The U.S is divided pretty much down the middle, with most Democrats for gun control, and most Republicans against gun control . In fact America is so divided on guns, that the slightest suggestion of gun control on Capitol Hill is heavily debated in Congress (Gun control). Why is there so much debate? Guns are very dangerous; around 30,000 deaths a year (and many more injuries) involve guns. Many people that oppose guns want them to be banned completely from the U.S., but if they can not get that, they want to at least pass gun control laws. What is gun control? ‘“Gun control” is a broad term that covers any sort of restriction on what kinds of firearms can be sold and bought, who can possess or sell them, where and how they can be stored or carried, what duties a seller has to vet a buyer, and what obligations both the buyer and the seller have to report transactions to the government.’(PÉrez-peÑa) Those who are for gun control believe, that if there were less guns, or none at all, then there would have less crime, less mass murders. Anyone can understand the strong argument for more gun control, however, these arguments do not match the facts or statistics, a gun ban or stronger gun control takes guns away from law abiding citizens, but it does very little to stop criminals, who do not follow the laws that have already been set.
