Persuasive Essay On Gun Violence

We live in very violent times. There are daily accounts reported in the media about shootings. We do well to ask, Is there a solution to this growing crisis? Yes! It is call gun control. The lack of stricter gun control has damaged our communities. How so? Well, in order to answer that question, first we have to understand what makes up a community. Then we will explore the history of our gun control laws.

Why is gun violence such a major issue in american and in what way could we help to stop it. It is important to consider that 12,000 people lose their lives in the U.S. each year due to gun homicides. Another thing is there has been 286 mass shootings in 2017 alone. Some more things to be put to thought is the school shootings and better ways to prevent them. Another key thing to remember is gun control and how it can be fixed.

Everyday 93 Americans are killed by guns. Whether it is due to homicide or suicide, it does not matter. At the end of the day gun violence is increasing exponentially. In numerous states, gun laws have been placed in the hopes of reducing gun violence. But now many people believe that gun violence should be treated as a public health problem. I for one feel that gun violence should be put in the category of public health. Every year more than 30,000 people are victims to gun related incidents. It has become such an issue that gun violence is causing more deaths than some life threatening diseases.

Guns have been is society for centuries. They have been used for hunting, war, and even safety. However, in the past several years they have begun to take the lives of many innocent victims, often young children. In response to the killings in Newtown, Conn., it has been noted, “If this were a country, the number of children killed by gun violence would violate international law.” (Browne-Marshall) F.B.I. data shows in 2011, 1,668 African American children were killed due to guns. Day by day gun violence is rising and it is not only in ghetto neighborhoods.

Gun violence has been a problem for quite a long time in America and it can't go on. Gun violence needs to come to a stop, but what is going to happen to bring it to an end. Many lives are being taken every year from high powered guns and what can happen to prevent it. There aren't many things that can prevent these things from happening, but it can be stopped.

Gun violence is a very serious matter that is affecting communities all over the United States. The crimes caused by guns affects everyone in some way, shape, or form. From losing loved ones to our neighborhoods not being safe anymore, the United States has the highest number of gun deaths per year. More importantly it affects the youth of the world in a negative way, leaving it emotionally or physically scarred, or even worse, dead. If we take a stand I believe we can put an end to gun violence and gun crimes once and for all.

As the daughter of a victim of gun violence I know what it is like to hear about this rising issue and instantly feel pained. Gun violence not only harms those that have been injured or killed, but it takes a lot from close relatives and friends. Within in the past few years it has become normal to hear about this act of violence occurring in America. According to GunViolenceArchive.org, there have been a total of 14,259 incidents in 2016 thus far. This is shocking because the year just began a few months ago and this number is extremely high. The big question is why is this number so high? The gun violence rate in America has inclined over the years and if nothing is being set in place to stop or control it, it will only get worse as the years continue. The Washington Post’s article, “Gun Violence in America is out of Control” is simply stating that the gun violence in America is out of hand and as citizens we need to be aware of this issue and keep that in mind when we are voting for our next president. (Washington Post) In Vox.com’s article, “Gun violence in America, in 17 maps and charts” express that America is one of the most violent countries in the world and gun violence is happening more frequently because of the easy access of guns. (Vox) Both sources recognize that gun violence in America has reached an all-time high, but I agree with Vox’s argument because

Now to get to the real issues at hand, and where the problems of today’s society stem from. Clinical Psychologist Ana Nogales, author of a few books and articles, says that the question that comes with the gun crime today is a question of mental health and gender. Nogales asks some important questions on her psychology website - Why do men resort to guns in order to be heard? Are we educating our children incorrectly? Is this also a topic of education? In this world today, there is a big problem with mass shootings happening more often. People tend to blame guns more than they do the people doing the crime. Some even say the Second Amendment should be altered or abolished. Everyone has a right to express their opinion on things, but sometimes in serious situations like this we need to really understand what the problem is and not make things any worse than they already are. Yes, guns do have a big part in mass shootings, but they aren’t the only problem in the situation.

Gun violence is the most urgent social crisis in America at this current moment because there has been many mass shootings at concerts, churches, and schools with many lives being taken away from one single men that acts like a God simply because he holds a license that allows him to purchase guns that are not necessary but only for military purpose. Many lives are being affected on a regular basis due to gun violence. Today we as a country are faced with a growing problem of gun violence; while this is mostly in urban areas it still affects many people. In some of the worse cases these streets are places where teenage thugs shoot it out for some turf to sell their drugs, and finally where small children are daily caught in the way of bullets during drive by shootings. We as a society try to ignore these problems but we shouldn’t. Nothing will get better unless we take the measurements to enact our own change, but some people want to stop the legal ownership of guns and that doesn’t really affect the problem at all. Making it where no one can have guns will just be taking the guns from the innocent people who use them as self-defense.

As gun violence spreads as a controversial issue around our society, many people have different views on what actions should be taken to control this world wide issue. Some people believe that more laws should be created to stop gun violence. But there are many others who believe that guns are not the problem and the stricter gun laws will only affect law-abiding people from having them. More gun laws will become irrelevant and will not work efficiently against crime.
