I was playing outside and all of a sudden, I hear this screech of a bird. I got very concerned, so I began walking up to the bird. It was laying fragile and still, like when a person is when they’re physically paralyzed and are unable to move. It must’ve flew into a window nearby. I couldn’t help but feel bad for it. No animal deserves to die. I then touched the bird making sure it was conscious. Before I knew it, the bird hopped up on it’s two legs. Cupping my hands, I tilted my water bottle, letting the water drop in my hands so the bird could get a drink. As soon as the bird got hydrated, it flew off into the woods. Even animals need a chance, but some people don’t care. I admire people like veterinarians who devote their lives to helping animals. Helping others can be a cure, not just for those who are in need, but for your own soul as well. Just then, I had a sudden realization. I want to help animals too. If we would all open our eyes and see just what some people do to innocent animals, maybe, just maybe, there will be a way to stop this. I was in high school when this all happened. It was like it was fate. I had to choose a career anyway, so why not be a vet. Yes! I want to be a vet. Now I am 24 years old living in Sun Valley, Idaho. I am a veterinarian. The smell of the crisp pine tree air and the breeze gently brushing up against my skin is what I call home. I learn to do what my true self wants me to do. Being a vet has changed not only how I am as a person, but how I see the world. I always loved to help animals, no matter what, there is always something you can do for them. I was relaxing at home and I turn my television on to the news, this is the first time I heard them bringing the subject up about hurricanes. As I watched over time, the news of the hurricanes got worse and worse. We eventually found out that hurricane Irma was going to hit Miami, Florida. Hurricane Irma gained strength reaching a category 4 storm as it began pummeling Florida. Authorities had ordered more than 6 million people to evacuate. Just in those words that I heard, I felt sorrow and heartbroken for these people who had to leave their dwelled homes.
Later that night, news reporters brought up
Ever since a young age, I have been a passionate animal enthusiast. I cannot image a life without a dog by my side. Animals are not just pets, or food, or part of the environment. They are intelligent creatures and deserve to be treated as such. Animals have evolved just as we have. The evolution theory even says humans evolved from primates. So why do animals not have rights? They have a brain and can learn and grow, just as we can. It can also be argued that animals have a soul. I believe animals not only have dignity, but they also have rights.
Her name was Snow White, beautiful eyes with a smile so bright, perked up ears that rose to the sky and beautiful black and white fur that made you feel safe when needed someone to talk to or even a hug. Since birth she was loyal, since birth she was faithful, but the reality of it all is that, not every owner knew how to take care of her. An animal is known to be more than a companion and our savior of the night, which is why we should understand the reality behind animal welfare, but in actuality, we don’t. But, they’re some habits to create a positive impact on animal welfare. From taking your pet to the veterinarian every six months to making sure your animal feels loved and appreciated by giving them attention, they are a lot more ways
Animal testing has been one of the issues that people are fighting overtime because of its moral. Even though some results of tests are successful on people, many people are still fighting for the animal’s rights. They believe that animals should have their own rights to live a free life where they belong, just like their species. In scientists point of view, animals have been one of the main subjects to test on, but a lot of them are currently looking forward to use and develop alternatives for the cruel act of animal testing.
The deeper I dig into animal abuse , the more I want to become a vegetarian. But it is not easy as it seems. The things that I have seen and read makes me sick to my stomach. To watch a hopeless cow, get whipped , is sickening. Watching baby Chicklets die in a big machine , brings tears to my eyes. Millions of animals every day die cruel deaths , and I no longer want to be an accomplice to the crimes. While it may be hard to retrain myself , I should and intend to just stop eating meat.
Why would anyone abuse an animal? Animal abuse is rather common, you could be doing it even if you don’t think you are. There are many animals that deal with abuse or neglect, about 1,423 animals a year. That’s in the U.S. alone. Animals are living creatures, just like you, and they’re not cheap. Neglect is another version of abuse, and it can come in many forms. Neglect could be starving them, not giving them medical care, not paying attention to them, etc, etc. Animals are just like humans, I mean, sure they can’t make their own meals, and they can’t drive a car, but that doesn’t mean they have fewer rights than you do. If an animal is abused or neglected the animal will be taken and the owner should be charged. If someone abuses an
Many people enjoy companionship with their animals; however, according to the American Society For the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), “every 60 seconds, another animal is abused.” Animals are often neglected in ways such as improper feeding, dog fighting, cockfighting, and being bred in puppy mills. In order to end animal abuse, people need to be enlightened about the multiple ways animals can be abused. Awareness of activities surrounding animal abuse will help decreases animal abuse. Education is of utmost importance in preventing animal abuse.
Imagine one minute running freely on the vast green terrain surrounding you, then the next locked up in a cold, hard, cage. It sounds horrible, right? Who would want to be locked up with minimal area to stretch your legs, and have people staring at you constantly? I for one, would hate that. I imagine that most animals locked up would share the same feelings. I personally, am against animals being caged. They do not deserve that kind of lifestyle and should not have to live with it just because humans pay money to see it. Animals are suffering greatly from being locked away. When an animal is bought, traded or given to a zoo, the animals rights are stripped away from them.
Animal abuse is a worldwide known problem, but what do people think of when the abuse is mentioned? Animal abuse is beating animals, not feeding them enough, testing products on them, giving them drugs, making them fight, and multiple other forms. There are countless people who would say that most circuses, zoos, and other animal entertainment places cause abuse to the animals, but just how many of these captive animals are actually abused? People say that keeping animals in cages at zoos and not letting them free roam is a form of abuse that should not be allowed. That statement can easily be argued as most do not recognize that as an animal abuse situation considering the animals are well cared for in most zoos. Sadly, the abuse of captive animals is cruel and dangerous and can cause increased death rates in the animals. Forty tiger cubs were even found dead in a freezer in a so-called tiger sanctuary in Thailand. People can be ignorant of the fact that plenty of zoos or other animal forms of entertainment are mistreating their animals; the abuse should be recognized and punished.
Mahatma Gandhi once said, “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” The social issue of animal rights first arose in the 1970s; since then the animal rights movement has gained momentum and a considerable amount of followers “Animal Rights.” Organizations like PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) hold demonstrations and protests in the streets and outside businesses to denounce the maltreatment of animals. There are two sides on this issue, those who believe that the life of an animal is inferior to that of a human’s and those who deem that animals deserve to have a life free of human interruption “What Are Animal Rights.” Without animal rights, our society can be deemed unfettered by empathy and restrained by immoral values.
The Animal Bill of Rights are laws that provide animals with rights to protect them and their dignity. Over the years there's been quite a controversy whether if animals should be given rights and a curiosity about their capabilities and if it's enough for them to be guaranteed the rights that a human has. Although it has been proven that animals indeed to have feelings and knowledge to their existence and even causes and effects of life or death, many people in the US still don't agree that animals should have rights. Many of the people who don't agree are more curious as to what would happen and the lengths these rights would go for animals and how it would affect the lives of humans. They laugh at the fact that these rights could possibly apply to all animals even the smallest ones when it shouldn't be a matter of humor. I think the real reason they laugh is because they're afraid of what these animals can do that could possibly outsmart humans in any way. These animals have suffered for years and they finally get to shine and their abuse finally comes to light and more people are realizing the inhumane acts these poor animals go through.
For thousands of years wolves have roamed the lands all around the world. From rich mythology and forgotten lessons, scientists have found evidence of wolves in almost every culture. Driven and hunted to near extinction conservation efforts have uncovered these long-forgotten teachings once again. Researchers are reminded of important family dynamics and the many parallels found in humans. Wolves were on the endangered list because they were hunted until almost extinction. Settlers farming of the land and the value of furs drove the hunt to eradicate one of nature’s top-level predators. Over the last few centuries biologists, ecologists, and scientists have been studying the effect this eradication has had on natures ecology. By observing the reintroduction of wolves into Yellowstone National Park scientists are uncovering new information on the real impact of top predators like the wolves. While the fight for survival of their species continues conservationists are fighting to find common ground to live and coexist with these formidable predators. Despite the legalization of massive slaughter of thousands of these majestic animals for sport, children of the next generation are already educating themselves and advocating for conservation. The hope is that these education and conservation efforts will allow humans and wolves to co-exist.
Imagine being thrown in cage, beaten, starved or forced to do something for no reason… other than someone else’s entertainment. We have all seen those ASPCA commercials showing depressing pictures of beaten and starved animals asking for help, yet animal cruelty/abuse is still a major problem. Even though on average, 1,920 animal cruelty cases are reported in the media each year, thousands of cases are unreported or unnoticed by the public (Animal Cruelty Facts and Stats). Regardless of animal cruelty being a felony which can result in jail time and thousands of dollars in fines, it is still something which occurs on a daily basis across the United States and it needs to be addressed in affective ways.
A social issue impacting our community and many others around the world, is the epidemic of homeless pets. According to ASPCA, “Approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter U.S. animal shelters nationwide every year. Of those, approximately 3.3 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats.” This statistic only seems to be accounting for dogs and cats, which make up a large number of animals entering shelters, but definitely not all of them. Livestock, reptiles, birds, small mammals, and even fish should not be forgotten. I have personally seen all of these animals end up in shelters. Care for the animals that end up in county animal shelters comes out of our taxes, so everyone paying taxes is affected. Because shelters are receiving so many animals, finding one with the promise of rehoming rather than euthanasia and willing take more animals can be hard. Sometimes people simply cannot keep their pets and must find another place for them to go. A death sentence for a beloved pet is not an opinion most families, or individuals, want to choose. The ones who are most affected by this are the animals. Animals are often put in crowded shelters, euthanized due to lack of room or funds in shelters, left to live on the streets, etc. This problem is furthered by animal breeders, people accidently allowing their animal to breed, and people purchasing animals on a whim without doing proper research on the care required, and later having to surrender the animal.
Animal cruelty is a huge problem around the world. People think it is ok to hurt an animal and starve them just because they are not humans. This is not ok at all. In fact, it is illegal. My dog is an abused animal. He is really scared by his old owner and daily tasks can be a struggle with him. He is terrified of males and does not like young children. He has random flashbacks and flipps out. Going to the pet store can skyrocket his anxiety. He has a love hate relationship with car rides. Though I have worked with him a lot over the past year, there are still struggles. The vets is a nightmare. He never had any shots or even been to the vets before in his life before we got him. It takes 4-5 of us to hold down my 15 pound dog. We have to put down his food at a certain time because he never knew when his next meal was and eats it so fast he gets sick. He use to be starved days at a time. “Animal cruelty is any deliberate act. This is due by intention or neglect. They cause an animal unnecessary pain or suffering, including inflicting pain on an animal for the abuser’s enjoyment or amusement” (Bourazak 2). Why do people think this is ok? Animals are just like humans. They have feeling and and living breathing creatures too. Just like us. What would give us a right to abuse them? Animal neglect is defined as the failure to provide an animal sufficient water, food, shelter, and/or veterinary care. Also lack of grooming and lack of sanitation. Abused animals are affected in so many ways from the abuse from us humans. Some of the many ways they are affected by their abusers physically and behaviorally.
Most people have, at some point in their lives, encountered a stray animal of some kind. It is common to see stray animals such as dogs or cats roaming around cities and neighborhoods, sometimes becoming a burden to the residents of those areas. Oftentimes, people will take pity on these animals and adopt them as their own. However, as the feral animal population grows, it is becoming increasingly difficult to accommodate all of the homeless pets. There are around 70 million stray animals in the United States (Pepelko, 2014). This is a sizeable amount of animals and it continues to grow each day. There are many proposed solutions to this issue such as euthanasia, an increase in the amount of shelters, or stricter regulations on adopting animals, but there is one solution that stands out: sterilization, otherwise known as spaying (for females) and neutering (for males). Sterilization is the best solution to the growing stray animal population because it eliminates the possibility of unwanted litters, stabilizes feral colonies, and decreases shelter populations.
