Medical marijuana has become accepted in the United States for adults, but not a lot has been considered for children. Many states have already legalized marijuana for medical purposes and other states are considering legislative change. A huge problem is the Schedule 1 status marijuana hold in the United States, this make it extremely hard to do research on medical marijuana for children. With the lack of scientific research, it leaves parents in a vulnerable position of trial and error. Considering that the medical marijuana is for their children, in my research I have noticed that most parents use it as their last resort. Parents are seeing their kids suffer from Epilepsy, Leukemia, Cancer, ADHD and other mental conditions. Parents that have tried Medical marijuana for their children have seen a significant improvement, but because of how new the medical marijuana concept is and a lack of scientific research parents are not aware of long term effects on their children. This issue could be resolved if the federal government would take the Schedule 1 status off of marijuana. The most recognized and documented case of medical marijuana working for a child is that of Charlotte Figi a young child that suffers from Dravet Syndrome. Charlotte had her first seizure at 3 months old; Doctors had a hard time diagnosing her.
