A living wage, or a true minimum wage, is a wage that has the ability to maintain a normal standard of living. A true minimum wage also enables people to live comfortable lives. If this is true, then the minimum wage in place now is not a living nor true minimum wage and it needs to be increased to meet these criteria. True minimum wage enables more people to live comfortable lives. Henry Ford, creator of the Model T, introduced, “$5, eight hour day,” (Dunn and others 1) rule, doubling wages and decreasing the amount of time a person worked each day. Ford made it, “possible for the people who made the cars to actually buy them,” (Dunn and others 1). With money in their pockets, the people could work not just to feed their families but also to have an item that made their lives more cozy, comfortable, and interesting. The increase on the minimum wage that Ford put allowed his workers to help the company and economy but also themselves. They could travel, get better jobs, and change the world by driving a car on minimum wage. Ford started the trend of increasing the wage so a person could live on it with comfort. This is visible, “ In 1969,” where, “a worker earning minimum wage could own a house, raise a family and think seriously about sending a child to college,” (Kerry 1). With the money they need and some to provide for their children’s future, these people could live comfortable lives working on minimum wage. They could be successful but settled and not worried. The
