Music Piracy Have you ever wondered what music piracy, or did you already know but never knew both sides? Well music piracy is the large scale, of unauthorized duplication of recorded music with the intent to defraud the copyright holder of his/her royalties; this includes the composers, lyricists and performing artist. The importance of music piracy is that it impacts the music industry causing them to lose billions of dollars each year. Some people feel like music piracy is stealing , and should be illegal because it causes millions of people to lose their jobs due to the lack of money being made. On the other hand many people say music piracy should be legal , they feel as if CDs are overpriced and that you shouldn’t have to pay a monthly fee when you can easily download any song you want for free. Indeed , many people might believe music piracy isn't a good thing , but some say it should be legalized.

“Music Piracy is the biggest threat to the development of the licensed music sectors and to the investments of artist.” Amanda Hunter deputy director of communications for the RIAA says “when consumers steal music everyone suffers not only does it rolo recording artist , and songwriters of their livelihoods and threaten the jobs of tens of thousands of less celebrated people in the industry.” The basic overview of my perspective and main point is that it should be a law against music piracy because it’s becoming a major controversial issue, and causing the music industry to go into a downfall. In particular, People who go against music piracy isn’t really stealing copyrighted
The widespread problem of music piracy implies that the solution to stopping it will be
In the article “Internet Piracy Harms Artists”, Phil Gardson explains how internet piracy such as online music sharing and other forms of copyrighting music hurts hardworking singers and songwriters. He also asserts that it is imperative that Congress should in act a law against these types of crimes to help protect artists.
Music piracy should be illegal because downloading music for free is stealing. Music piracy can cause
Illegal Piracy has been a problem for many musical artist. The law is not really enforced on piracy. Many people get away with it and very few get prosecuted with a fine . Musicians spend time to make music for people and to make money for their own reasons, like for food or clothes. Movie makers are also victims of Illegal Piracy, along with many others, piracy to them should be
When people buy music, they get legal rights to that purchase, known as Intellectual Property (IP). But some people do not like to buy music. Whether they know it or not, they use piracy as their way to get music. They use softwares, look music up on the internet, or find somebody selling it. Piracy can be destructive to people or organizations like the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). People
Music piracy has been detrimental to the music industry and I believe it will only get worse with time. Music has become much easier for people to steal off the internet without paying the artist a dime. Technology continues to improve exponentially every year, because of these improvements in technology piracy has become much more accessible to music pirates. Overall album sales have gone down from 500 million units sold in 2007 to 200 million units sold in 2016. If this trend continues it will eliminate some of the smaller artists who depend on album sales to pay for studio time and other expenses. These lesser known artists also usually lack the funds to try to prosecute these music pirates and get their music off of the sites they are being
In conclusion for ‘Musical Piracy Is Wrong’ the artist need the money to get on with their lives and not worry about not getting paid and not being able to go on with their lives. You should save up the
Online piracy is illegal and people shouldn't be doing or even thinking of stealing something that's not yours. People need to make money in order to eat, but can't if others commit online piracy. Musicians take time in creating a song and sacrifice a lot for their song to be pushed forward in the music industries. Musicians need to eat and be able to afford their house, but can't if other people are stealing their products. Online piracy can also affect others by showing that you're stealing something that not yours and basically taking credit for it. Main point is that stealing is bad and it wouldn't get you anywhere in the world.
Many companies have had to deal with issue of one illegally downloading music and taking as well as using it for their own. Over time, the term for this issue has became known as "piracy." Regarding the evidence in the article, organizations such as the Motion Picture Association of America should not use emotionally charged language such as "piracy" to win legal battles.
There are many artists who work hard to make their products but are rewarded with lesser than what the would have made if there were no piracy. In source 4 “A Musician’s rant”, “It would be fabulous if I could share my music for free, but believe it or not I have to eat (Source 4)"! If people were enforcing the law and making music available for everybody and not just people who are well off, then the others would not have to copy their products. The fact that poverty is an enormous issue in the world raises gigantic flags. This is why most of the world (those millions that were mentioned earlier) are copying music for their enjoyment what else would they be doing; riding in their Mercedes Benz collecting their 50,000 checks every month? Alma Mandelssohn conjures, “Let’s make sure that music and other files are easily available for low prices on legitimate sites, and that when people download from bootleg sources they get fined a small amount, but every single time (Source
There are $12.5 billion in economic losses each year due to Piracy in the music industry. This shows how people are not taking piracy seriously and treating it not as a crime. Piracy is a crime and people should be able to use it against people in their cases. Based on the evidence in this article, companies involved in legal action should use emotionally charged language such as "piracy" to win their cases because if they seem to be copying an artist's piece without permission and selling it for free, it is piracy and piracy is a crime that they can use.
No one person has the right or the ability to definitively determine whether or not something is ethical. Ethics are subjective, meaning they depend on the individual's own feelings and opinions. Take Robin Hood for example, he steals from the rich and gives to the poor. In that particular situation there are two ways to analyze the situation, one from the rich man's point of view and the other from the poor man's point of view. The same thought process can be used in evaluating the ethics of piracy. As a person who is open minded and willing to consider both sides of a situation, I can not give a solid position on whether I believe piracy should or should not be allowed. What I can do is provide information that can help you formulate your own opinion.
“Hundreds of Internet users are suspected of illegally trading music using file-swapping services” (www.joelcomm.com, year). This surge in the illegal trading of music is having a major impact on the music industry this is why we should have harsher punishment of the illegal download of music .Many smaller and lesser known artists are suffering because they are not making any money form the downloading and illegal trading off their songs. The illegal download of copy righted music and the easy access to free songs from is affect many local businesses, many cd and music stores are closing down because off the illegal file trading and down loading of music. This calls for harsher punishment for the illegal down load of copy righted music. We
The question then became “Just because we can get the music we want without paying for it, should we?” (Tyson, 2000, p.1). This issue of illegal downloads, which is also referred to as piracy, has been a hot topic ever since the introduction of Napster. According to Recording Industry Association of America “In the decade since peer-to-peer (p2p) file-sharing site Napster emerged in 1999, music sales in the U.S. have dropped 47 percent, from $14.6 billion to $7.7 billion” (RIAA, 2014).
Ever since the start of illegal music downloading there has been an ongoing debate. As with any controversy, there are those whose positions stand at one end of the spectrum or the other and also those who are moderate or nonchalant. Many believe that downloading a song without paying for it is not only illegal, but also immoral. None-the less, people continue to download songs, rationalizing that the record companies are getting what they deserve after years of overpriced CD's or that the artists won't really miss the money. Some people are not sure what to make of the situation, sympathizing in some respects with either side. There are several proposed solutions to this problem, but it has become obvious that there is not easy or clear
