Physical education is instruction in physical exercise and games, especially in schools. It’s a well-known fact that America is continually trying to win in front of the pack in every competition. Nonetheless, as of recently, we have been winning a few battles that we ought to lose. Being one of the fattest nations on the planet is unquestionably not anything to be proud about.
As indicated by Forbes obesity adds $93 billion to our country's therapeutic expenses every year. Will cutting one spending truly add more money to another? Physical education should not be pushed back due to educational cuts because health, and exercising is fundamental to an individual’s life.
Although obesity is a term that is very common to hear about, it is important to see the gravitation. Obesity is not just people in bigger than average clothes. Often people think of the popular TV show “Biggest Loser” when obesity is brought up in conversation. It is not important to get fit to fit into society, however, the real reason is to be healthy and live a long and happy life. Each year it is thought that 112,000 people die from obesity-related causes. Obesity causes other health scares, such as heart disease and cancer. Both are detrimental to one’s life. In addition, according to the article, physical education in schools, sport activity and total physical activity in adolescents, it states that “Less than half of adolescents reach the recommended 300 minutes per week of physical activity. Obesity continues to be a problem in the United States. With obesity rates on the rise something must be done to prevent this massive issue. Seventeen percent of children and adolescents about 12.5 million are obese (Diet). Obesity is the result of a rise in fat that accumulated over time due to the lack of exercise and having a calorie surplus due to unhealthy food. An adult with a BMI (body mass index) higher than 30% is considered to be obese (Obesity). There isn’t a direct focus on obesity, because people don’t think it’s an important issue. To ensure a better future, solution is needed now. The solution to ending the obesity epidemic by encouraging a healthier lifestyle on children at young ages, improving nutrition at schools and restaurants, as well as providing more time and space for citizens to get physically active.
The Margaret Eaton School (MES) played an important role in Canadian physical education during a period of time known as the “golden age” for women’s sport in Canada. This essay will discuss how Margaret Eaton School came to be and why it is considered one of the leading schools in the development of women’s physical education in Canada in 1901, with the help of Emma Scott Raff and Margaret Eaton. The school started out as “The School of Expression” focusing on theatre and physical culture, and later (1925) shifted its views to focus solely on physical education. I plan to argue that from 1901 to 1942, the Margaret Eaton School played an innovative role in Canada in the development of physical education by offering women a comprehensive
As a future educator of physical education, I feel that our nation’s weight problem is an issue that needs to be addressed. I feel that it is and will be my job to educate students about the importance of taking care of your body because “fat kids have a 92% chance of becoming fat adults” (www.amp.com). The leading cause of death in the United States, for men and women, is heart disease. “The United States alone the estimated annual number of deaths attributable to obesity is about 280,000.”
Increasingly high obesity rates among the U.S. population have both personal and societal ramifications. For the individual, increased body mass has been linked to a myriad of health issues including heart disease, Type II diabetes, high cholesterol, cancer, strokes, kidney & liver disease, and hypertension. (Wilmore, et al., 2008) On a societal level, the Center for Disease Control estimates that obesity related medical care costs reached a staggering $147 billion in 2008 with obese patients costing $1,400 more per patient than those that fell into a "normal" weight rage (CDC). Obesity-related diseases may also contribute to millions of lost workdays and higher insurance premiums (CNBC).
Childhood obesity is a major health condition that is effecting many middle-aged students in America. Obesity has been an issue in America for over the past few decades. It is important to find a way to fix this problem. Luckily, there are plenty ways to heal this issue. This essay discusses the reasoning behind childhood obesity, and how physical education and government involvement in schools can help prevent obesity. The requirement of every state in America to introduce physical education into elementary schools will also help solve this problem. Developing the younger population is very important because one day they will become the future leaders, making health related decisions that will affect the entire American population.
America's children are not getting enough exercise, and the health risks due to obesity are becoming epidemic in nature. Even First Lady Michelle Obama is supporting an initiative to help children become more active and to provide for exercise (at least 30-60 minutes per day) in all schools. Even limited amounts of exercise can have great health benefits. When humans exercise, the brain produces chemicals that help enhance mood, limit cravings for sugars, and contribute to healthier joints, muscles, the heart, and kidneys. In turn, this translates into more productive work time, the ability to sleep better, increase memory, and reduce dependence on medications. Children are so vulnerable to this health risk that if it continues, over 60% of graduating seniors will be clinically obese. Written by a medical journalist, the book is designed for the lay reader but has a number of documented scholarly sources.
I’ve never been the type to have been interested in our basketball team, any other sports offered at my school, or even gym classes. During my time in middle school through high school, our basketball team was very important to my district. That isn’t saying that these parts of nearly every school district, aren’t important. I’m a firm believer that regardless of the importance of these classes, a student can always learn a valuable lesson from these. There, of course, would be people that would disagree with my decision but if I was in charge of my district, I would cut funding to sports, and gym courses. I choose sports and gym classes because the amount of children that sign up for spots is lower today in my district. The number of participates
Obesity is a wide spreading disease determined on body weight. It is a major problem in the United States. It affects over 30% of children in America. Over a period of time, if obesity isn’t taken care of properly, it can form into cancer and other forms of diseases. Obesity is the most common chronic disease and highly interferes with health in America. If everyone works together, we can lower America’s obesity rate by getting kids to stay active and eat healthier.
The Campaign to End Obesity is a national public health campaign whose overall motto is “to advance America’s journey to healthy weight.” It is known in this current age that two-thirds of America’s adults and one-third of the youth population are overweight or obese. Even more shocking is the fact that over $200 billion has been spent on medical costs attributed to obesity. Obesity will be the main contributor for why this generation of youth will live shorter lives than their parents if we keep going at the rate we are now. This public health campaign was established in
Childhood obesity has more than doubled in children and tripled in adolescents in the past 30 years. Two-thirds of adults and nearly one in three children are overweight or obese. The prevalence of obesity in the U.S. more than doubled from 15% to 34% among adults and more than tripled from 5% to 18% among children and adolescents from 1980 to now. (Brunilda Nazario). These facts should startle you and quite frankly shock and scare you! It is estimated by the year 2020 obesity will be the single biggest killer on the planet. (World Health Organization) Obesity has become a dangerous epidemic facing our country. As children, teen and adult obesity rates have risen dramatically, so has the number of diet, exercise and health programs. The question is which diets and exercise programs work, and which ones don’t. Educating our country about how to become healthier through different programs and lifestyles is an important step in fixing this serious problem.
4 quarters, 2 halves, 1 hour; entirely devoted to seeing if the countless hours you spent bloating your players with enough water and Gatorade to prevent them cramping, cringing as they cry out with pain while digging your elbows into the knots in their calves, laughing as they plunge into arctic-like baths squealing, and conducting your extensive boys’ rehab for maximum performance has paid off. Athletic training is not about sitting around waiting for your players to get injured, but being proactive and preventing injuries before there is even a chance for them to get hurt. It takes true dedication to spend three to sometimes fifteen or more hours a day with the same boys, dealing with the same complaints, putting up with the same attitudes

“To enjoy the glow of good health, you must exercise”- Gene Tunney. In this society, which we live in, this population lacks health. According to the CIA’s list of obese countries in the world, America ranks 18. Our population is 35% obese, which is very big compared to the rest of the world. Today I see this fat world, and we can change it. The youth of America is our future. If you want a free fulfilled future it is important to build your fitness.
Being physically active is always important in maintaining a healthy lifestyle, regardless of your age. Obesity is a prevalent issue in America. According to the President’s Council on Fitness at Fitness.gov, “one-third of U.S. adults (33.8%) are obese” and “approximately 17% (or 12.5 million) of children and adolescents (aged 2-19 years) are obese.” Obesity does not just stop at weight gain either. Studies by the President’s Council of Fitness also show that obesity can lead to even more serious and sometimes fatal health issues. These issues include but are not limited to: High blood pressure, asthma, diabetes, heart disease and even cancer.
