E-cigarettes are Better for Smokers than Regular Ones
Smoking tobacco is probably one of the worst habits humankind has developed. Originating as a tradition of the Native Americans, practiced mostly on special occasions, smoking has gradually become a kind of mass addiction. Due to the efforts of tobacco companies seeking to increase their sales, people started smoking more and more often; the evolution of a more traditional pipe to a cigarette took some time, but eventually tobacco became more affordable and easier to use (you now simply need to light it up, instead of having to always carry a tobacco pouch, stuff a pipe, puff it, and so on). As a result, deaths and health issues connected to tobacco consumption became a worldwide

The key difference between traditional cigarettes and e-cigarettes is that e-cigarettes don’t contain tobacco. But, it isn’t just the tobacco in cigarettes that causes cancer. Traditional cigarettes contain a laundry list of chemicals that are proven harmful, and e-cigarettes have some of these same chemicals but lesser than than regular tobacco. Electronic cigarettes, or e-cigarettes, are being marketed as the “safe” new alternative to conventional cigarettes.
For years environmentalists have been pressuring cigarette makers to cut back on synthetic chemicals in their products, to reduce their harm to both smokers and non-smokers. Regulators have been worried about second hand smoke for years, and have been passing indoor smoking bans state by state. Today you can go to work, shop, or go out to eat in many places without being inundated with toxic haze from smokers. However, there is still a problem with cigarette butts left behind by smokers. We all see this litter on our sidewalks, roads, and parking lots, often just feet from a trash bin. Unfortunately, many smokers still toss their spent cigarettes out their cars. Although it is also a controversial product, electronic cigarettes, or e-cigarettes, could help reduce this toxic burden. The devices use a small amount of power to vaporize nicotine, which is then inhaled. Some are marketed as entirely nicotine free, and many have flavorings added. Many are
Electronic cigarettes have been around for about a decade. No one is sure of what havoc they can cause yet because of how new they are in existence. Throughout the past years more and more issues have been arising from this product that was originally assumed to be harmless. Now we are faced with the question are they really as safe as we thought or should increase investigation to see what they are really capable of. So far researchers have discovered many issues with the electronic cigarettes and every month more and more issues begin the surface the air. From explosion to toxic material. These issues will not only affect their
Most smokers don’t even know what they are smoking in reality. Tobacco and marijuana are made to calm the nerves of the human body (They are downers) but, they also are made of multiple poisonous and chemical substances. Tobacco contains chemicals like "Nicotine (the addictive drug that produces the effect that people are looking for and one of harshest chemicals in tobacco smoke), Hydrogen cyanide, Lead, Arsenic, Ammonia, Radioactive elements, carbon monoxide, etc." (3, The American Cancer Society) All of these elements put together form one of the deadliest products that is sold all over the world, called a cigarette. Companies created E- Cigarettes claiming that they were less harmful to the body but these products also contain addictive nicotine that can cause mental dependence on nicotine (The American Cancer Society).
Do you know a friend, or have a family member that uses an e-cigarette? The chances of a person has increased greatly. According to the American Lung Association,”both high school and middle school students e-cigarette usage has tripled in one year, increasing from 4.5% in 2013 to 13.4 % in 2014.” With the rising usage rates, e-cigs and their dangers associated with them are impacting more and more Americans everyday. While some people in America believe that electronic cigarettes are safe, Americans should be aware that electronic cigarettes have dangers, including addiction and harmful chemicals.
Additionally, it is not known if e-cigarettes may lead young people to try other tobacco products, including conventional cigarettes, which are known to cause disease and lead to premature death” (U.S. Food and Drug Administration, 2103). With a lack of scientific study by the very agency concerned with the public health, it is safe to say that Electronic Cigarettes should be avoided at all costs. Do not rush to the finish line based on loose information. No matter what form it comes in, smoking is bad. There are plenty of toxins that enter the body just from the ambient air that people breathe, why add more to the mix? Do not be afraid to take a stand and say no more self pollution.
Compared with cigarette, e-cig is also a lot more environmentally friendly. Studies conducted by the University of Colorado shows that normal cigarette produces 12 time the thin air-debris that e-cig produces. From an individual perspective, the environmental damage of both e-cig and cigarette is almost negligible. However, from a global perspective, e-cig is significantly less harmful than
An e-cigarette is a device that some are using as their alternative to smoking a traditional cigarette. Using electronic cigarettes is commonly known to the younger demographic as “vaping”. The theory? It’s a stepping stone to ultimately stopping the addictive habit of smoking altogether; by offering an alternative that is supposedly less damaging in the long run. According to the National Institute Drug Abuse website (2015), the outer structure can either resemble a “traditional” cigarette or an everyday item (they give the example of a pen or a USB drive). It starts off with a power source, usually a battery and also consists of a type of heating mechanism. Lastly, its third component is the part that contains a mixture of nicotine, flavoring, and a variety of other chemicals.
E-cigarettes are a new and more innovative way for smokers to get their nicotine high, and some believe they are even healthier to use while others do not. Many people see the word “cigarette” and assume that it has a lot of health consequences and can cause death and second-hand smoke. While there are some who know what E-cigarettes truly are and know the difference between the two and the change in health risks. I have a neutral idea about the object knowing that it can help people quite cigarette but they still can cause a potential health risk to long time smokers as their body beings to reject the foreign chemicals/objects like tar from the body which is very painfully to experience. E-Cigarettes are treated as regular Cigarettes
Sensible people are always sorting out ways to get rid of bad habits and smoking has undoubtedly proven to be one of the most harmful habits one can possess. When it comes to the death toll cause by diseases due to smoking like cancer diseases, lung or respiratory diseases, scientists have already taken the inititative to counter this very issue and have come up with a remarkable alternative to smoking i.e Electronic cigarettes.
E-cigarettes are marketed as a way to get nicotine fix without inhaling all that lung-blackening smoke that’s been directly linked to cancer and heart disease and also the elements inhaled done evaporated nicotine have been linked to stroke, asthma, and diabetes.” In addition to cancer, smoking causes lung diseases such as chronic bronchitis and emphysema, and increases the risk of heart disease, including stroke, heart attack, vascular disease, and aneurysm. Tobacco smoke is a complex mixture of chemicals such as carbon monoxide, tar, formaldehyde, cyanide, and ammonia, many of which are known carcinogens. Carbon monoxide increases the chance of cardiovascular diseases. Tar exposes the user to an increased risk of lung cancer, oral cancer,
Drifting tobacco smoke can trigger asthma attacks, bronchial infections, and other serious health problems in nonsmokers. For the 100 million Americans who have asthma, chronic bronchitis, chronic sinusitis, emphysema, or other breathing related conditions, it makes them especially susceptible to secondhand tobacco smoke.
E-Cigarette is increasing in popularity as an alternative to smoking tobacco. It is designed to look and feel like a real cigarette and produces a similar effect to inhaling tobacco smoke, however it does not contain smoke. Millions of people are currently smoking tobacco which has become a major health problem due to an increasing number of diseases, cancers and health conditions that occur with the potential risk of death. While e-cigarette is a new product that is popular among young smokers and known to carry little risk according to several recent research proving its safety and benefits. According to research, e-cigarette offers a safer alternative to smoking tobacco because smokers do not inhale harmful toxic chemicals which are commonly
Electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) have been increasing popular in the last several years for various reasons. An e-cigarette will automatically turn on by sensing pressure being applied at the base of the cigarette (Dennis 2015). Electronic cigarettes are battery operated that are supposed to mimic a real cigarette, meaning that the one end of the e-cigarette lights up, and a vapor is released into the air (Stein 2015). Inside the cigarette, there is a cartilage where the nicotine is stored (Dennis 2015). In addition to nicotine, which gives tobacco its addictive quality, e-cigarettes also have some sort of artificial additive and other liquids to create the vapor and improve the taste from traditional cigarettes (Maron 2014). Traditional cigarettes are rolled up tobacco, which naturally have nicotine, and when a traditional cigarette is lit and smoked, there is a release of harmful chemicals into the air, affecting other people around the smoker.
In fact it’s said that E-cigarettes may be our country’s greatest new alternative to smoking it may even be the end game. Recently research found that inhaling the vapor emitted from E-cigarette devices was about as harmful as breathing in a breath of normal fresh air. The research found that “the deliveries of HPHCs tested for these e-cigarette products were similar to the study air blanks rather than to deliveries from conventional cigarettes”. On the contrary, E-cigs in fact are 5 xs more likely to cause cancer than a normal cigarette. Since E-cigs were created as a way to help prevent tobacco smoking/end it all together they were said to contain none of the highly harmful ingredients that a tobacco cigarette contains. Recent research has disputed this fact by revealing enormous amounts of formaldehyde hidden until now. “According to the American Cancer Society, exposure to formaldehyde has been shown to cause cancer in laboratory animals and has also been linked to some
E-cigarettes appear as an innocent alternative to the real thing but the Food and Drug Administration issued an advisory identifying the “volatile” substances in the device and its emitted smoke may not be that harmless after all (“FDA: Second-Hand Smoke From E-Cigarettes May Be Harmful To Your Health”, 2013). Electronic cigarettes contain organic substances including propylene glycol, flavors, and nicotine which are emitted as a mist into the air in enclosed areas. FDA studies show that these microscopic liquid particles have the possibility of penetrating deep into our lungs. Also cited by the FDA in a German publication on electronic cigarettes shows
I’m sure most of you already know that smoking cigarettes or using any type of tobacco product is very addictive. There are several forms of tobacco, including cigarettes, cigars, snuff, etc. With multiple forms of tobacco having their own harmful effects; they all boil down to unfriendly outcomes, including cancer and possibly death. So why do people use tobacco products? Perhaps when people started using tobacco products they did not know it could be harmful. A good example would be years ago when smoking cigarettes started as an uninformative fad with advertisements drawing people in to partake in the trend. It was unknown at that time just how dangerous the fad would end up being. Unfortunately, after many years of research, tobacco use has proven that what was once perceived to be cool was and is really a potential death trap. “Smoking cigarettes account for approximately 443,000 deaths a year in the United States.” (“People”) According to Dr. Oz, “Smoking kills almost a half a million people every year in the U.S. alone, primarily from cancer (41%), heart disease (32.7%), and
