The government should not be able to control our right to speech freely. We should be allowed to say what we want to say freely even on the things we don’t like. How all of the people think the government can just take our freedom and then just put our feelings into a movie. We should be able to tell them no if a movie were about to take place that thousands of people would get hurt by. For an example people have attempted to make a holocaust movie without getting a single consent from any of the friends, and family have been killed. The holocaust survivors said “it is in a very deep sense the most hurtful that has ever been leveled against jews,” page number 3. The people making this movie should not be able to go and go whatever they please without others knowing. With …show more content…
So they government said, ”one of the new laws is to legalize sports wagering in states,” page number 1. If a person chooses to bet on something with their own money on something, and another person wants to bet on something else with their own money they should be allowed. The government, may be allowed to put a limit on how much can be betted, they may also be allowed to tax it and to control what sport you wager on. By putting taxes on the wagers the government can also make money out of it.
One of many questions that people ask is; How long do you think the Freedom of Speech will last? The government will not be able to do anything to get rid of the freedom of speech. People still say what they have in their mind about the government. Freedom of Speech will still be around as long as people can say what is on their mind. The people have once said “that by the pattern set earlier ones is rooted in the conviction that the constitutional law can’t end it,” page number 17. The Freedom of Speech shall live on for as long as we can
According to “Freedom of Speech” by Gerald Leinwand, Abraham Lincoln once asked, “Must a government, of necessity, be too strong for the liberties of its people, or too weak to maintain its own existence (7)?” This question is particularly appropriate when considering what is perhaps the most sacred of all our Constitutionally guaranteed rights, freedom of expression. Lincoln knew well the potential dangers of expression, having steered the Union through the bitterly divisive Civil War, but he held the Constitution dear enough to protect its promises whenever possible (8).
Many people argue that competitive sports raise numerous amounts of pressure on the youth making them distracted from things such as their education and because it can cause severe injuries, but some people argue that youth should play competitive sports because it teaches major life lessons that can help with many different aspects of their future such as college, getting a job, and many more. Playing competitive sports also improves your physical strength, another physical aspect of playing competitive sports is decreasing your chance of being obese or having disease. If you don't prefer to play competitive sports there are alternative options such as biking or walking to school. In an HT Health article “Sports Seen As Key Weapon in Fighting Teen Obesity” it says that in a study with 1,700 kids, ten percent walked or biked to school 3 ½ days a week,, in the study they found that biking or walking to school lowered the risk of being obese by 33%. I argue that kids should play competitive sports because of the important life skills taught through these sports and the physical benefit of playing sports. In this paper I will explain how communication, time management, and lowering the risk of being obese; supports my claim, “Kids should play competitive sports”
The first amendment, the right of freedom of speech is one of the most important classic fantasy to almost anyone living in the United States, building the foundation of our nation. This right gives us plenty of different opportunities to express our opinions and political viewpoints on any issues in America. But it comes with a price, people have been protesting multiple different events trying to prevent people from expressing opposing opinions or political viewpoints on that has issues in America. For the minority of people, expressing a different opinion should be protected no matter how controversial or insensitive it may be.
Since this country was founded, we have had a set of unalienable rights that our constitution guarantees us to as Americans. One of the most important rights that is mentioned in our constitution is the right to free speech. “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the
Free speech is by far the most commonly recognized freedom in our everyday lives. The freedom of speech allows us to voice our own opinions without the severe repercussions of some countries. It allows us to say what we really feel and helps us learn how to communicate in true and meaningful ways. Along with this freedom, we must remember that there are limits to this freedom. While being arrested “you have the right to remain silent” and anything you say can be used against you in court. This freedom is not one to be taken for
(Attention Getter) What if I told you that for decades, students have worked over 40 hours a week and received absolutely no pay. College athletes are expected to balance the immense workload of school work and represent their school well in athletics.
Freedom of speech has been a controversial issue throughout the world. Our ability to say whatever we want is very important to us as individuals and communities. Although freedom of speech and expression may sometimes be offensive to other people, it is still everyone’s right to express his/her opinion under the American constitution which states that “congress shall make no law
To begin with, the American Government has created many unconstitutional laws such as the Sedition Act of 1918 ( an act passed in 1918 that if anyone talked negatively about the government or war efforts it was punishable by long periods of jail time or death penalty after December 13,1920 the act was repealed due to citizens expressing displeasure) , which restricts the first right to freedom of speech.Freedom of speech, it’s becoming questionable on how free speech actually is in the United States. Watson states , there has been a “seven-teen percent increase in cases of people speaking out against the government , which can be punishable by jail time” , or as conspiracy theorist believe death. The restriction of freedom of speech comes from lack of active participation in American politics .The most recent case that is similar to the Sedition Act of 1918 occurred in 2012 a male citizen named Tarek
The First Amendment was adopted in 1791. It states that “Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” (Wikipedia, 2016) The freedom of speech documented in the First Amendment is not only a constitutional protection, but also an inevitable part of democratic government and independence, which are essential values in our society. “Censorship,” according to the ACLU, “… is the suppression of words, images, or ideas that are "offensive," happens whenever some people succeed in imposing their personal political or moral values on others”. (ACLU, 2016) That is why the American citizen’s right to free speech should be held as the highest virtue and any censorship of freedom of speech should not be allowed, but only respected. Not to mention that censorship is unconstitutional.
Entitlement is when somebody has the right to do something, it exists in every high school sport. Starting varsity is most players main goal, but it comes at a cost. Athletes should have to earn their varsity spot, it should not be handed to them. No athlete should ever underestimate how hard another athlete is working to earn that same position on a team, a position no one is simply entitled to have without competing for it or competing to keep it.
An important thing to know about freedom of speech is it does not actually protect anything we want to say. However freedom of speech is something that the United States holds high. The first amendment of our constitution is one of the most important amendments we have to protect us. The first amendment gives us the right to free speech with very few limits. Even though this may not be the best policy it is important we protect any speech so long as it is not harming anyone. The constitution says “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. (Madison)” This is saying that the freedom of speech is protected by the constitution and congress cannot make laws to limit anything covered by freedom
The United States Constitution grants American citizens the freedom of speech. This single line in the First Amendment has been a staple of American culture since its ratification on December 15, 1791 (Constitution Center, 2018). The Founders recognized the significance of this freedom and the power it had to shape a young nation. It was George Washington who declared-“If freedom of speech is taken away, then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter” (Global Research, 2016). The legal definition of this vision is “the right to express information, ideas, and opinions- free of government restrictions based on content and subject only to reasonable limitations” (Merriam-Webster Dictionary). This sole clause has been the subject
Michael Vick, quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles, was convicted of operating a massive dog fighting ring and was sentenced to 23 months in jail in 2007.
The First Amendment states that a person has the right to freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and freedom of press. Although these things are clearly stated in the constitution, these rights are beginning to be compromised, and taken from the American people. Many people in America are not able to say their views in fear of offending someone else with the comments. This is a problem that many people are facing especially on the right side of the political spectrum. Some people believe that people should not be able to speak their minds in public places, but that is wrong because the constitution states that any person has the right to say what they want to.
Do you have a passion, something you love to do more than anything? Imagine people trying to stop you from doing what you love because they think it’s not useful or a waste. Some people say competitive sports cost too much and they are way too dangerous for young kids to participate in. However, for many youth, competitive sports play a positive role. When kids play competitive sports, they are happier and they learn how to be healthy. Also, they learn life lessons that they will need for the future.
