As many read through Elie’s book Night, they recognize what Elie fought through while he was staying in the Concentration Camps. People have realized the brutal conditions that the he had gone through and have came to the thought of how it effected his future and what he has done ever since the horrible Holocaust.

The main reason why Elie was able to survive was because he was strong in faith and could endure difficult circumstances. Strength and perseverance were certainly key ingredients of Elie’s survival as he used them to get through daily life at the horrid concentration camps. The novel reveals that these aspects created positive mindsets amongst the Jews, such as when the Jews were forced into confined ghettos, “people thought this was a good thing…We would live among Jews, among brothers.” Without these characteristics, many Jews would have forfeited their adventure against the Nazis, like when some Jews wanted some sleep, but Elie did not as he knew it was close to the end and that sleeping could have led one to death. Elie physically becomes more dehumanized and skeletal, mentally changes his perspective on religion, and socially becomes more selfish and detached, causing him to lose many parts of his character and adding to the overall theme of loss in Night.

He and his two older sisters survived the holocaust, Elie then wrote his experience in 1960. During the span of the book, “Night” by Elie Wiesel, the novel demonstrates that traumatic events can change a person drastically. In the beginning, Elie lived with his family in Germany, his mother, his father, and his three siblings. The Germans forced the Jews to hand over their valuables, live in ghettos and finally moving them to concentration camps, including Elie’s family. He was disunited from his mother and three siblings, but managed to stay with his father. At first when he entered the camp he was pessimistic and discouraged when he saw the townspeople crying including his father. After, Elie then learned to take care of himself and his father during tragic events, he stuck to his ambitions and values which led him to go through many obstacles , despite the limitations, and be free of the camp of Auschwitz. As he set out Eliezer was an immature and carefree 15 year old who developed into a responsible young adult.

Eliezer Wiesel, a Jewish boy during the Holocaust, survived more in that time period than most should in a life time. He had overcome fatigue and starvation, and survived the regime of two concentration camps. Not only that, but he did it with his father, his support throughout the book. Eliezer had his will to survive that kept him alive, his father that was his crutch, and his hope that everyone else was grasping onto and losing. Night shows the true strength of Eliezer Wiesel and his indomitable strength of the the human spirit, showing the characteristics of survival, family bond, and hope, all throughout the book.

The Holocaust changed the lives of many. Those that survived have many terrifying stories to tell. Many survivors are too horrified to tell their story because their experiences are too shocking to express in words. Eli Wiesel overcomes this fear by publicly relaying his survival of the Holocaust.
