When people turn eighteen they are finally considered an adult. They can join the army, vote, buy cigarettes or tobacco products, get a tattoo and even die for our country. Although everyone considers that person to be an adult, they are still not old enough to buy or consume alcohol. A person can be responsible enough to live on their own, make their own money, pay their own bills, and yet they are still not considered old enough to purchase or consume any type of alcohol. Lowering the drinking age to 18 would help prevent the crime and personal injuries that are caused by alcohol abuse.

The first time I ever drank alcohol was with my volleyball team in high school. I almost always drank it with my teams. I felt as though I would not be accepted if I did not partake in the activity. As mentioned earlier, I had a bad incident with alcohol. A new, older guy kept giving me alcohol one night, and I woke up the next morning with texts from my friends telling me that they were banging on the door trying to get me out. This led to over a year of drinking as a way to try and forget. It was something I struggles with a lot in high school. Luckily, in college, I have been in a community that encourages the pursuit of God and honor. I cannot lie, there have been a couple times earlier on when I felt empty and drank underage. Sin and struggling with sin is a real thing, but I have been really striving to honor God and my body in all I do. My position would be that we are called to honor God and by doing so, we honor the law of the land that drinking is legal after 21 in America. I also believe that once someone is 21, they need to continue to respect God and their bodies by refraining from getting drunk.
