Currently in the United States the age you must be to consume or purchase alcohol is twenty one years old. Considering that, as of the age of eighteen, you are considered an adult. If you are considered a legal adult by people around the world, then you should be treated as one and be able to take on all the responsibilities no matter the circumstances. The legal drinking age in the United States should be lowered to give more responsibilities to young adults and decrease the rate of underage drinking. The legal drinking age in the United States is too high. Having the legal drinking age too high, often results in underage drinking. Although it will seem like we are giving into the youths wants by lowering the drinking age, it will be making things a lot safer for them and the people around them. Underage drinking can put children in a lot of dangerous situations, considering that a lot of times their parents do not realize that this is what their children are doing. A lot of times, underage drinking revolves around high school. Students will drink and put their selves in these situations because of peer pressure, the want of fitting in with others, and to be known as the “popular” kid. Being considered a legal adult at the age of eighteen should mean that all responsibilities can and should be taken just as any other adult would. Turning eighteen comes with many different privileges, just as turning twenty one would. If you are old enough to vote for the leader of our country or sacrifice your life by going into the military, you should be able to make the decision on whether you choose to drink or not. If you are old enough to be considered an adult, everyone should treat you as one. Considering that most eighteen year olds just graduated high school, giving them open doors to adult hood, will result in young adults becoming more responsible and accepting their actions and being more mature for their age. With all of these responsibilities on top of continuing their education in college, they will have no choice but to be more mature, but they can also still have fun and live their life while being responsible with it. Having the legal drinking age lowered will result in a decrease of underage
Dear Uncle David, I really wish you would stop drinking all the time. I hate to see you throwing up every day. Seeing you drained of energy is frightening. You used to have a smile on your face every time you saw me, now I hardly ever see you smiling and laughing because you're always sick. I don’t understand why you keep drinking since you are always in and out the hospital. You were such an enthusiastic, funny, dramatic, fun person that people need in their life. Your smile lit up the room and now, I only see you moping drunk every time you're up and moving. It’s sickening to hear family gossiping about when you're going to die. I hope that by reading what I have to say will make you realize the problems you have with drinking and how
When people turn eighteen they are finally considered an adult. They can join the army, vote, buy cigarettes or tobacco products, get a tattoo and even die for our country. Although everyone considers that person to be an adult, they are still not old enough to buy or consume alcohol. A person can be responsible enough to live on their own, make their own money, pay their own bills, and yet they are still not considered old enough to purchase or consume any type of alcohol. Lowering the drinking age to 18 would help prevent the crime and personal injuries that are caused by alcohol abuse.
The legal drinking age is a highly debated topic in the United States and Canada. The drinking age refers to the age when people are allowed to buy and consume alcohol. The drinking age varies from country to country, and in some cases state to state. South Dakota, for example, allows teens to drink at 18 with adult permission unlike many other states in the U.S. Many people are happy with the current drinking age where it's at, but many want it lowered to 18. Those people that want it lowered think that when people turn 18, they are considered adults and should have all the rights and privileges that 21 year olds possess. Many people disagree with this and think adolescents are not fully responsible until they are 21. This has become a major debate in our country over the past few years as we have seen an increase in underage drinking. Being a legal drinker requires lots of responsibility and smart decision making.
In the U.S. the minimum drinking age is at 21 and I believe it should be lowered to 18. People 18 years and older are considered adults and should be treated as such by being allowed to legally purchase and consume alcohol. Lowering the drinking age will not only give 18-year-olds the rights and recognition they deserve as adults, but will also obliterate a largely ineffective law that only serves to create more red tape. At the age of 18, a U.S. citizen can vote in an election, defend and possibly die for their country and make all kinds of decisions regarding their life and body. If I want to vote democrat, I can. If I want ink up my body, I can. If I want to fill my lungs with smoke, I can do that too. Going wine tasting with some friends,
Society proposes at the age of eighteen an individual is mature and responsible to make decisions without the consent of a parent or guardian. In the United States an eighteen-year-old is considered a legal adult. By law you are able to fight for your country, vote, and buy cigarettes. Some impose, giving a newly young adult the privilege to consume alcohol would enhance their responsibility as an adult. Mary Cary from
Once a person reaches the age of 18, they are allowed to tattoo their bodies, smoke tobacco, gamble and even enlist if they wanted to! As an adult, they want to be treated as one but how can they feel like an adult if hanging around with their friends and drinking beer while watching TV is illegal? Of course, that does not stop them, though. The United States is one of the few countries in which still have such a high minimum drinking age. Although most people think young adults (18-year olds) are irresponsible, the minimum drinking age should be lowered to 18 because they deserve to be recognized as adults in order to avoid illegal, uncontrolled drinking and other illegal actions.
The drinking age should be lowered to eighteen because there has been many problems that have caused life threatening dangers to these teens. The age eighteen is where you start to become an adult so people should have the right to drink when they turn eighteen (“Drinking Age”). It also should be allowed
In the United States, 18-year-olds are considered adults. They can vote, get married and get a license for a gun yet they are not allowed to drink. Many people think that the drinking age should be 18, but others strongly believe it should be 21 for doing all kinds of things. Drinking in the United States has become a controversy for the drinking age; 18 or 21. There are many reasons why the drinking age should stay the same and many of why it should be 18. Even though many Americans think that people under 21 do not have the capacity to handle drinking, in my opinion, drinking age should be lowered from 21 to 18 because teenagers at the age of 18 can make important decisions, so drinking should be a decision they can too decide whether to
Throughout the world, the age when a child becomes an adult is at the age 18. Most people gain the right to vote, start to work for themselves, drive in certain countries. All of this being said, an additional privilege is the ability for one to be able to legally drink. The United States is one of the only countries who´s legal drinking age is separate from the declared age of an official adult under the law. The idea of putting restrictions on a “legal” adult, makes the issue more complicated for that their are still restrictions that make an adult like a child. The legal drinking age in the United States should be lowered to the age of 18 because it will not only give the full right of passage into adulthood, but it is important to keep on par with our international community in terms of underlying laws to each government and their respective cultures.
If 18 is considered the age of adulthood, then a person at the age of 18 should be permitted to enjoy the rights and responsibilities that becoming an adult entails, including
In our world today, fifty percent of Americans believe it is appropriate for those under twenty-one to drink alcohol and want the legal drinking age to be lowered to eighteen. In the United States when an individual reaches eighteen, he or she are believed to be an adult. Becoming an adult as the law states that means mature enough to vote, purchase cigarettes, and even sign up for the military. When considering changing the drinking age to eighteen for many reasons to think through when it comes to health complications regards to well-being of others and maybe taken under circumstances where it may be excessively over used.
The drinking age in the United States is a contradiction. At the age of eighteen, one can drive a car, vote in an election, get married, serve in the military and buy tobacco products. In the United States you are legally an adult at eighteen. An eighteen-year-old, however, cannot purchase alcoholic beverages. The minimum drinking age should be lowered from twenty-one in the United States.
In the United States, a citizen is considered an “adult” at the age of 18, and with that new title comes many responsibilities, such as the right to vote and to join the army. However, the legal drinking age in America is twenty-one. This issue has been a major controversy for some time now that faces both national and state governments. Should the drinking age be lowered to the age when legally a person becomes an adult and assumes all other adult responsibilities, or should it remain at a higher age to allow people to grow more mature and, hopefully, make more responsible decisions?
Alcohol leads to other drugs and substance abuse, too. If the drinking age were to lower to eighteen, this would not change the actions of young partiers. “Alcohol should be forbidden to 18- to 20-year-olds precisely because they have a propensity to binge drink whether the stuff is illegal or not—especially males” (Main). Drinking alcohol usually leads to other illegal substances. “Youths who report drinking prior to the age of 15 are more likely to develop substance abuse problems, to engage in risky sexual behavior, and to experience other negative consequences in comparison to those who begin at a later time” (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services).
The first time I ever drank alcohol was with my volleyball team in high school. I almost always drank it with my teams. I felt as though I would not be accepted if I did not partake in the activity. As mentioned earlier, I had a bad incident with alcohol. A new, older guy kept giving me alcohol one night, and I woke up the next morning with texts from my friends telling me that they were banging on the door trying to get me out. This led to over a year of drinking as a way to try and forget. It was something I struggles with a lot in high school. Luckily, in college, I have been in a community that encourages the pursuit of God and honor. I cannot lie, there have been a couple times earlier on when I felt empty and drank underage. Sin and struggling with sin is a real thing, but I have been really striving to honor God and my body in all I do. My position would be that we are called to honor God and by doing so, we honor the law of the land that drinking is legal after 21 in America. I also believe that once someone is 21, they need to continue to respect God and their bodies by refraining from getting drunk. Not being conscious of decisions makes it impossible to consciously choose God in a scenario of drunkenness. I also believe that if you are in a state where you are unable to be present for a friend who may need you because you are too drunk that is not good. We should be able to be present and help a friend in need when they reach out. I did smoke a couple times in
