Ever gotten up in the morning and not wanted to wake up? Don’t worry, I completely understand what you are feeling. I absolutely despise waking up in the morning. Picture this: middle school kids trudging through school all day, then coming home to after school activities, and to top it all off sleeping late because of stress. Waking up early is a real struggle for most kids, and if you asked any kid I'm sure they’d agree to the terms of school starting later. People say that because of the time kids have to wake up, their brain doesn't function too well in classes, and they don’t really learn to much. My personal connection to this topic is my pain. I know, I know, we all have to deal with it, but just think, do we really have to deal with it? I mean, if we contacted the right people and got a bunch of people to join into our campaign, I’m sure it would work out.I’m just sick and tired of getting terrible grades on tests because I don’t get enough sleep, and then I lose focus in class. Because I lose focus in class, I have to do all my studying at home. I have all these after school activities I have to do, and then I have to come home and study. You might think I’m wrong, but that’s a ton for a teen to handle. With everything piled on top of each other, teens could get a bunch of anxiety. If more people get invested into this topic, then maybe teens all around the globe would be smarter. A ton of people like to agree with me, and say that school just in fact start later. “As if all of this weren’t enough, teens who don’t get enough sleep are more at risk for drug and alcohol use, depression and suicide” (Lewis). This is a very powerful line. This shows that if teens don’t get enough sleep, it might cause more people to kill themselves. “Since the 1990s, sleep researchers and other health professionals have been telling us that these early school hours are harming children. It's not just the numbers of hours of sleep, but also the timing of sleep that is required for optimal health” (Rubinstein).
