However, according to the CDC (2017), over half of sports injuries are preventable. All sports can produce an overuse injury, they are the most common sports injury in middle and high schoolers, but most of these are due to parents and coaches pushing the kids too hard. As long as parents keep youth sports fun, and not too competitive, injuries can easily be prevented. Young teenagers that play sports are eight times more likely to be active at age 24 than young teenagers who don’t play sports (Perkins, 2004). Are sports beneficial or detrimental to youth? Why and how? When and where? A lot of questions have been asked either by parents or by other people who are doing this type of research. Although the physical exercise provided by sports is essential, there are many other benefits both immediate and long-term. Some state that it gives children an opportunity to play Sports and interact with other children and form social bonds and relationships but along with that it is beneficial but from the research I looked at and my own opinion, I feel that most children drop out or do not play because of lack of interest or other reasons.
Positive Physical Effects. The most tangible effects on children who play sports is the effects on children’s bodies. According to the author of the book ReSYNC Your Life, Samir Becic, kids are not as injury-prone when involved in athletics because sports help to boost a child’s skeletal and muscular system (“Top 10 Benefits of Youth Sports”). Not only does a healthy, uninjured child feel better, parents also save money by not having to go to the Emergency Room as often. In Becic’s eyes, fighting obesity by keeping kids moving is another positive influence of sports (“Top 10 Benefits of Youth Sports”). Obesity is an ever-growing problem in our society, and obesity leads to multiple different health issues including heart problems. Becic explains that playing sports as a child promotes a healthy heart, which ultimately suppresses the chance of heart disease (“Top 10 Benefits of Youth Sports”). These studies show that by participating in athletics as a child, that child is likely to see their physical health improve.
Are high school sports good for kids? Many people believe that athletic sports are good, but they ignore the fatal flaws of these activities. Youth and high school sports are harmful because athletes often get too caught up in winning and get hurt frequently, physical sports also take away from other extracurricular activities.
Physical activity has not only physical benefits. It also has a very big impact on social-emotional and cognitive aspects of child’s live. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention “The development of a physically active lifestyle is a goal for all children. Traditional team and competitive sports may promote healthy activity for selected youth. Individual sports, noncompetitive sports, lifetime sports, and recreational activities expand the opportunity for activity to everyone. The opportunity to be active on a regular basis, as well as the enjoyment and competence gained from activity, may increase the chances that a physically active lifestyle will be adopted.”
When most kids play for typical leagues whether they are fun leagues or competitive leagues injuries can happen. The injury rate is slightly higher then children with sedentary lifestyles. Studies have shown that children that are not exposed to sports are less likely to play them later in their adolescence. This country has a growing epidemic of overweight youth. Children subconsciously about fitness in a fun manner. Active kids typically remain active throughout their life
My first reason is that school/youth sports keep kids healthy. Kids who are active in youth sports have a lowered risk of heart disease, stroke, cancer, depression and diabetes. ”Fitness can be a way to help prevent 13 different types of cancer.” Additionally, “regular physical activity benefits health in many ways, including helping build and maintain healthy bones, muscles, and joints,” said Facts: Sports Activity and Children. All of the health benefits listed and
A lot of parents think that sports are too hard and too physical for teens and children, but sports are, actually, the best thing that will happen to these minors. Sports are a huge influence on children and teenagers, because participating in sports can actually influence the future of young men and women of today's generation. For the children and teenagers that start to play at a young age, sports can help children develop physical skills and learn how to work as a part of a team.
In 2008, 30.2% of youth ages 6 to 12 were active to a healthy level through sports(“Facts”). This shows that some kids are getting the minimum amount of physical activity. To raise this level, all kids should include sports in their daily life. All kids should be engaged in sports. Regular activity is required for good health and high school athletes are more likely to attend college.
Sports can help people that play in physical ways too. One way is that sports can help people stay healthy. Another thing is that people that dont do sports are more likely to be more fat than the people that do play sports. Also kids that play sports tend to have healthier bones and muscles compared to people that don't play sports.
School sports should continue to be funded because they are more helpful than harmful to students that play them. School Sports help kids create better ties to their school work and it is shown that it helps kids stay more focused in and out of school. School sports can also help kids become more confident in themselves making them reach for better grades, jobs, and lifestyles. School sports is the best way to fight against the obesity epidemic that has spread throughout America by making the kids become more active in their lives. School sports can also help kids socially by allowing them to meet new kids on their teams. It has been shown that more severe injuries happen to younger players such as injuries to the legs and heads, but that
However, many children do not run like they should which causes the rate of obesity to rise. According to the American Heart Association, about one out of three American teens and children are overweight because of lack of exercise. Playing a sport could really help improve a growing child's health.
First of all, sports could make kids healthy. According to the article “Sports Activity and Children” by The Aspen Institute stated, “A wide-ranging study and analysis of existing research found that free-time physical activity is associated with reduced risk of 13 different types of cancer. (National Institutes of Health, 2016).” In fact, even do that there is a lot of kids that have cancer, sports could help make sure you don’t even get cancer. Also, the text also says, “Adolescents who play sports are eight times as likely to be active at age 24 as adolescents who do not play sports (Sports Participation as Predictors of Participation in Sports and Physical Fitness Activities in Young Adulthood, Perkins, 2004).” Although, when you get older, you get kinda lazy when you grow up, sports could help your body in the future. Even though that when kids get very old,
Sports may help improve children’s overall health. Many people against youth sports might say that participating in sports has a high risk of injury. This is not correct; children have a much less chance of injury as that of an adult. However I believe that sports can improve children’s health.
As time passes and as technology is advancing, the tradition of playing outside is diminishing rapidly. Many people concentrate on their electronic devices in their ages as early as three. Sports are the most effective way that children express their joyfulness and brilliance. It provides children advantages of physical activities, confidence, and enjoyment. Participating in organized sports in early ages can produce the greatest results for children. Organized sports are good for children to improve social skills, to have successful life, and to keep their health.
Health in kids is always a big concern today. A lot of kids in todays generation stay inside because of the new electronics and games that come out every year. Introducing a kid to a sport can be really good. Some kids will grow up liking and playing sports so they will already want to play. Playing a sport can keep the kid active, healthy, and in good shape. Children who participate in sports develop stronger muscles and bones, so when they get older they will become less likely to suffer from physical injury. Physical exercise before and during the onset
