Imagine driving home late after a long day at work, too exhausted to cook. But McDonald's is open 24 hours, so you get a late night bite in. But is it healthy? The city council don’t think so and has voted to ban fast food in Aberdeen, Washington. That means instead of being lazy and getting a meal that's unhealthy you can take your time and make a meal that is healthier at home. One reason Aberdeen should not allow fast food restaurants is that everyone should not be eating just unhealthy foods. For example, in “Fast Food: Is It the Enemy?” i agree with the fact that fast food is nothing but “fat, calories, and sodium” because “These food are highly processed.” the sad thing is that you can “Easily take in 1,500 calories from just one
Around 160,000 fast food franchises have been opened all over America. America is the most obese country in this world. Know that fast food can satisfy our day by day calories requirements; not only it gives us calories, but it also harms our health with other ingredients. For instance, fast food is high in soaked fats and trans fats. In addition, it has additives, chemicals, and artificial flavors. Fast food impacts our health and causes infections, for example, heart disease, diabetes, high blood sugar and high blood pressure. On the other hand, healthy food provides the best nutrients and protects our body from sickness, since it contains vitamins, proteins, and minerals. Fast food is addictive and unhealthy. Do you ever think about what you eat when you go to eat some fast-food? These fast-food restaurants have taken over the world. In “McJobs,” By Eric Schlosser, states that, “All along the interstate, fast-food restaurants and chain stores started to open. Family-owned historic businesses downtown closed. And Martinsburg started to look just like any other sprawling American suburb.” If fast-food continues, the country of America might become a business without wilderness. It may convenient when you are out late and have no time, but is that really worth the health issues it causes? We need to stop fast
When someone thinks of various fast food restaurants, they often think of quick and easy way to obtain food. However they do not stop to think about how it is affecting their health. Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser exposes to the public that various fast food restaurants, such as McDonalds, are detrimental for your health. He does this by showing the reader how unhealthy the food is to the public, as well as showing us how they make their food more desirable to buy to the general population. The one problem that arisen from fast food restaurants is the increase of childhood obesity since the beginning of fast food.

One reason why Fast Food should be banned in the city of Aberdeen is it causes obesity. For example, in the article of Fast Food, “Is It the Enemy?” it explains that 33.8% of the U.S. population is affected by obesity. Also, in the article of “is it the enemy”, it also explains that the Burger king whopper has too much stuff than it already is in. Specifically, the Burger king whopper has 670 calories and 40g of fat. Finally, why fast food causes obesity is that also the sodas can cause obesity, for instance, Major Michael R. Bloomberg went last week in a case to ban supersized sodas and sugary drinks. It’s not just the hamburgers, it is also the sodas that cause obesity.
Fast food restaurants are said to be full of fattening foods that lead to health problems for all of the people that eat at these restaurants on a continually bases. “The fact is, there is simply no clear, credible evidence that any aspect of food processing or storage makes a food uniquely unhealthy” (Freedman, 2013, p. 13). People just believe that processed food is bad for you just because it is different from traditional food, they are just afraid of this new concept. The biggest fast food chain “McDonald's has quietly been making healthy changes for years, shrinking portion sizes, reducing some fats, trimming average salt content by more than 10 percent in the past couple of years alone, and adding fruits, vegetables, low-fat dairy, and oatmeal to its menu” (Freedman, 2013, p. 13). This company is giving the consumer many healthy choices to choice from,
With the increasing academic and extracurricular expectations placed on high-school students, we pack our schedules tightly with rigorous courses, extracurricular activities, and voluntary work. We believe that our future and success are dependent on the work we do as students, and we sacrifice our health towards that goal. Instead of feeding on the nutrition of healthy meals, we turn to fast-food that is convenient and with rising options minutes away from school. However, the rising rates of obesity in our youth urge active action to be taken to change this norm of our teens consuming fast-food. [As a fellow high-school student, I expose this problem and advocate to improve the eating habits of high-school students.]
Fast food has without a doubt changed the way people eat in America, and is partly to blame for diabetes, obesity, and heart disease. According to Murray (40) more than 300, 000 every year are related to obesity. Individuals should know what they are consuming and how it is prepared or made; they should spend their hard earned money on restaurants that make healthy food. So why is fast food unhealthy? Fast food may look tasty and appealing, however, they contain a myriad of hidden health hazards that are dangerous if consumed in large quantities and are a primary cause of obesity, particularly in children. The effects of eating fast food on a person’s health are: increase in blood pressure, a delay in the metabolic rate, increase in the levels of bad cholesterol, destabilization of blood sugar levels, and weakening of the immune system. Furthermore, the effects of fast food include obesity, nutritional deficiencies, and cardiac problems among other health hazards. No one is forcing individuals to eat fast food, but the fact is that fast food restaurants will change when consumers demand changes. Even if three percent of Americans complained about fast food, it would make a substantial drop in
The food industry in the UK is a multi-billion pound industry that is mainly dominated by a few competitors such as McDonalds, Burger King, KFC and Subway. Most of the food sold in these fast food restaurants is unhealthy, which is becoming a huge concern as there are many people dying of obesity and other health related problems. This is one of the key social factors facing the fast food market at the moment.
Second of all, trying to pick the best places and the healthiest food is really hard and expensive and when it is found it gets boring because of limited choices. If somebody is willing to list the names of fast food restaurants he or she would be really bored counting them but if he or she was asked to list the fast food places that have healthy food it would be a hard task. Moreover, the rate of healthy food in their menus is limited so people will have limited choices getting healthy food. Consequently people will go back to meals that has disastrous ingredients like saturated fat. For example, Maya W. Paul and Lawrence Robinson state in their article about healthy fast food “A single meal of a Double Whopper with cheese, a medium order of fries, and an apple pie from Burger King contains more saturated fat than the American Heart Association recommends we consume in two days.” This is actually a calamity for
Michael Pollan (2010) stated in his essay “Food Fight” that, “Cheap food has become and indispensable pillar of the modern economy” (p.513). This is true especially with those that work in the fast food industry because they do not get paid that much. Cheaper food is what they can afford so that is what they buy instead of healthy food. Astyk and Newton (2009) state in their essay “The rich get richer, the poor go hungry” that “Multinational food companies have also worked their way into the food budgets of the poor” (p.517). When consuming fast food, “It turns out there are significant costs-to the environment, to public health, to the public purse…” (Pollan, 2010, p.513). If there were more fast food restaurants that offered healthy food with the same price as fast food there would not be an obesity problem. That would affect the farmers or people selling the crops and food that is healthy. Buying fast food is cheaper, but it will cost you more in the long run with your
More than twelve million American households are pushed to eat unhealthy foods due to the fact that higher quality groceries are too expensive to buy. Many Americans are struggling to pay bills let alone think about purchasing healthy food due to high cost superior nutrition. Although Americans choose how to spend their money, the government does not aid everyone to be able to afford healthier foods. The government has the power to make laws for eliminating certain percentages of fats, types of fats, and controlling the price at which companies vend their products. Dangerous types of fats include transfats and saturated fats which should be avoided at all costs and are found
So on the way to work they will buy dinner at a fast food restaurant. Places such as McDonalds's, Burger King, and Taco Bell have begun to appear on every street corner. Fast food restaurants made an appearance in America in the 1960's. They have not been around for very long and already the effects are destroying the health of the people in America. This is because people go to what to tastes good and these foods taste good to the kids. When their parents grew up a trip to grandmas for Sunday dinner was a treat and a variety from the meals at home. Today the treat is going out to a fast food restaurant. These foods are usually inexpensive, prepared for the person, and they taste good. The downside to these places is that their food is greasy and high in fat. Both of these are contributors to high blood pressure and high frequency of heart attacks among the American population.
