“Beep,Beep, Beep, Beep,” was the sound that played over and over at 6:30 A.M. On September 11th, 2001. I started to toss and turn, finally I realized my alarm was making that obnoxious beeping sound, so I rolled over and hit the snooze button. At that time I realized the time was nearly 6:45 A.M., the bright red numbers pointed directly into my foggy, awakening eyes. As I rolled out of bed my feet hit that same chilled floor as they do each morning. At that time I knew it was time for a shower, and a sip of coffee before I headed out the door for work, and start my daily routine. Morning coffee could not come any faster. I quickly shuffled out of the shower, and got into my cleanly pressed suit. I am feeling pretty confident and brave, because It was my nice new suit, which had become my favorite. Taking a last look at that clock on my night stand the time read 7:35 A.M. I hurried myself, knowing I had to leave soon. Rushing into the kitchen I grabbed my stainless steel mug out of the big stack of clean dishes. As I poured the hot coffee I watched It steam, just then I knew I was ready to go on with my day. Heading for the door I grabbed my brief case, kissed my wife goodbye, and said, “I love you, and see you after work.” The clock on the dash read 8:15 A.M., just as I was pulling into the parking spot, which was the same spot I parked in every single day. I took the elevator up to my floor on the 83rd floor of the North Tower of the most commonly known as the twin
I am sure that everyone of you have heard about aliens and UFOs. Indeed, we all have heard about the famous case of aliens and UFOs in Roswell, New Mexico. Most people might be interested in the topic of aliens, but I know that the majority of you just think of it as rumours and the existence of them are impossible. Therefore, I am standing here in front all of you to make you change your perspective. I am strongly confident that I have found the evidence of their real existence to convince all of you.
The morning of September 11, 2001 started off like any other Tuesday morning. The weather was flawless, clear blue skies, not a cloud in sight. I awoke to the sound of loud car horns going off in the streets below, and the banter of the old men talking about last night 's Yankees game. Leaning back into my large, warm bed, eyes still heavy from staying up late the night before, I turned over to look at my alarm and panicked. I forgot to set it last night. I frantically jumped out of bed and was hit by the cool rush of air against my bare body, and the cold bathroom tile beneath my feet. I quickly fixed my long brown hair, and managed to put some makeup on my face. Running to my closet, I desperately searched through the racks of clothes hanging up for proper work attire. I managed to successfully walk out the door with both of my shoes on, hair brushed, and my clothes right side in within 10 minutes. Rushing down the stairs of my small urban apartment, I was met with regular old men gossiping about what they
Persuasive speech outline purpose: To persuade my audience to donate blood through the American Red Cross. Introduction:
*C. Motivation*: What if the person waiting on the list needing an organ transplant was someone you loved? Imagine if you had a brother or sister who had unexpectedly died and you were able to meet the person who received their heart, for example. Think of the satisfaction and possible comfort knowing that your brother or sister provided life for somebody else.
I was a very conceited third grader. All children have the tendency of overconfidence; I was no exception. But back in third grade, it was even worse.
For example, using a leftover coffee can for loose nails or screws, or even washing and reusing a plastic zip-loc bag instead of throwing it in the garbage. Thrift shopping is a way of reusing someone else’s unwanted goods. As I spoke about in an earlier speech about thrifting, I included many locations and ways to thrift, also the benefits to the shopper and the donator. One place in particular was shopping at the local boys and girls club. I personally shop there, keeping my eyes open for a good deal. For example, the pair of jeans that I am wearing today was purchased from this store just a few months ago. I paid only $8.00 for this pair of Lucky Jeans and according to buckle.com, a retailer for lucky jeans the retail price is $99.00 that is a savings to me of $91.00.I am not the type to worry about name brands, but quality usually does cost more. If I can get a quality pair of jeans at a fraction on the price, I am glad to shop at the thrift store. I am thankful to the person that made the donation of the lucky jeans and they can benefit from that donation. According to the IRS webpage, IRS. Gov it explains that an individual can donate items like clothing, household furniture and furnishings, a car or boat, even taxidermy. The donations are appraised, by the donator, and recorded. At the time of filing taxes if the donation equals at least $500 for the year, the donator may take advantage of the
My persuasive message focuses on convincing people that we need to change our mindset and become more mindful before changing the word “black” in Black Lives Matter(BLM). Of course, like anything else I would have to find a particular group of people to be my target audience. It was quite difficult figuring that out at first, but I got it. In order for my message to be successful, I choose for my primary audience to be white people and my secondary audience to be people who are against BLM movement. We often choose to be closed minded about situations that we don’t gain anything from, so I do understand why when one is not knowledgeable on a topic the lack of interest in the topic one may come off ignorant. Knowing more about why BLM started will not only prevent one from being ignorant, but also educate us on other racial issues that black people face in America. Overall, I want to urge those individuals who are not open-minded to the movement and its cause to learn more about it and to expand their mind.
Nameless lake here, and these blue waters they are my friend, am I near the end
Anytime you have an audience, there is more pressure to perform well. If you are performing on stage, you want do your very best dance or act out every move to its ultimate potential and enjoy the applause. If you are playing a sport, you want to hear the roar of the crowd cheering your name as you take home that win. To successfully achieve the goal, you must endure through any trial that may keep you from your specific objective. Endurance is a character trait that must be exercised daily. You can’t just wake up one day and complete a marathon when you’ve never run a day in your life. If you do, you’ll probably injure yourself. Your body needs to build up strength and endurance to complete each mile you’ll face, so when you get to mile 19 you won’t quit.
Writers and speakers must be able to get the audience to listen to them and what they want to get across. The speaker uses three key types of reasoning: ethos, pathos, and logos. Ethos is the ethics or reputation a person has. This can be shown when the speaker uses their reputation to show the audience knows that there is something to back up their words and that they aren’t just talking to talk. Speakers also use it as a way to show that they live, what they say and not just saying do as I say not as I do and this gives more credibility and makes people want to listen to the speaker more. The next key type of reasoning is pathos which is the emotional side of a story that a speaker will use. They will appeal to a person’s emotional side to help get their point across by getting an emotional response. This helps to draw in the people that listen to their emotions. The last type of reasoning is logos which focuses mostly on the logical side of a story. This can be shown in the way that a speaker uses facts or focuses on a more practical sense of what they are talking about. Speakers usually use a mix between pathos and logos to appeal to most of their audience to help get their point across.
What could a 10 year old possibly be worrying about? When I was 10 years old, my largest and most terrifying concern was that I broke my yellow crayon and that I would be labeled as the girl who had to take the walk of shame to the back of classroom to get an old, used yellow crayon from the community set. What a concept? The extent of social pressure that was forced on me was my crayon credibility and even then my friends didn’t feel the need to shun me for my shameful misconduct. More and more often, children are expected to endure an unnatural process as early as fourth grade and extending beyond their college years. While it is not ideal and obviously detrimental to the development of children and their concepts of social acceptance, this concept is all but surprising just as is the result, but the epidemic is only worsened by the lack of understanding of the situation. For all we know, it might mean the death of a basic human desire. But, what is it that we have all overlooked or underestimated? What “concept” could possibly be our downfall. It is simple, yet influential. Increasing rare, yet less and less sought after. And in the end, it is a master of imitation, masked as other qualities that lead us astray, away from our goal, away from our happiness. It is what everyone wants and yet no one can identify as exactly what it is, genuine human connection.
Often times when we try to succeed we end up giving up, however, this is not the case for many. Like Malcolm X and myself, we both tried proving others wrong out of frustration to show that we can succeed. In order to do this, we need to practice what we need to do to better improve ourselves. Some can have the disbelieve of others thinking that they are not good enough or not willing to achieve something which can lead us to possible failure. Whether we succeed or fail we should never give up on proving those who ever doubted us wrong.
It’s been half a month since Connor killed himself. Believe it or not, I think the kids at school are starting to forget. Starting to move on, like some new movie release or concert tour outweighs the death of a fellow student. It’s kind of frustrating, you know? It’s hard to believe that something so relevant and big can be dropped so easily. I don’t think it’s right.
Jonathan, my friend, just got an earful for going into the forest. All I got was a stare from my dad. My dad didn’t think words would change my decisions at this point so he just stood there. He was far away from me, but his shadow stretched over me and his glare was like the sun itself. He would not let me move because that was my punishment and my dad was strict in that way. If he had just yelled at me or grounded me that would have been easier, but this was torture and I could not stand the long silence.
Shoved away at the back of the cupboard on the highest shelf I lay there waiting to be unexpectedly found by the wrong person or to be used to make people happy. Either way results in the end of my life. Bundled away where no one can see, Richard is the only one who knows where I am. I play with his thoughts and guilty conscious everyday making him fear every knock at the door. Richard continues to hide me from his wife; all I am to him is a bit of fun and extra income. I wish I had a helpful purpose in life but I am what is known to many as nothing but a “life destroyer.” The popular opinion towards me is a negative one to say the least. I’m not much to look at plain, white and simple but I have an unimaginably wild effect on people. Mind numbingly magic.
