With a hectic schedule already on my plate, the second week of class was packed with assignments. I found myself struggling to keep up with my high-demand business schedule in addition to writing a memo about change, creating 2 PowerPoint presentations with corresponding handouts, and participating in a discussion board. Sometimes, I wonder how I even find time to sleep. Despite having a packed schedule, I did manage to work on and improve some of my persuasive business writing skills. Writing a persuasive memo without sounding aggressive can be challenging. The goal of a persuasive memo should be to introduce an issue to an audience and persuade the readers to take voluntary action according to your proposition. Remember, the readers do not
The weather is perfect for racing: not too hot, not too humid, not too windy. I dash down the twisted trails in the woods, trying not to stumble on the gnarled roots protruding from the dirt. My spikes puncture the soft earth with every stride, and my legs repeatedly pound on the ground, soreness surging through them. As sweat trickles down my face and dirt smears across my aching calves, I ascend a steep hill, trying to bring forth the strength I have accumulated throughout endless hours of practice. Now that I am nearing the final two hundred meters, I must force my body to begin sprinting. Breathing heavily, I dart for the imminent finish line, trying to beat the uninterrupted tick of the timer. Even though the crowd surrounds all around me, I can barely hear their animated cheers, because all I can focus on is crossing the line before the girl next to me. I can feel adrenaline surging through my body, and I widen my stride to cap off the remaining distance. When I glance at my Garmin watch, a new personal best time flashes across the screen. I realize that all of the gruelling work I have put in is worth the final result: happiness. (Snapshot Lead)
Many students have part-time jobs to support themselves throughout their college/university life. Getting adequate rest and sleep sometimes is not an option for some students. A student’s life is not just going to school and then relax for the remainder of the day. There are projects, homework, and tests to study for, and on top, they need to work to be able to live throughout their life as a
Every persuasive essay is likely to have some form of bias. So, since everyone usually sides with people who are similar to them, there is no surprise that Grant Penrod wrote this essay in favor of intellectuals. Even with the very limited knowledge we have about him, it is very evident that he is more interested in academics than athletics and therefore can sympathize with nerds and/or geeks. Persuasive essays also tend to generalize in order to gain support for their side of the story. Trying to persuade someone that all jocks are mean is much easier if you don’t mention that the nicest person you have ever met was on the football team. In this essay, Penrod uses a lot of stereotypes and generalization, even though he speaks out against stereotyping,
The initial shock of the significant workload and expectations can take their toll, but good time management skills can prevent multiple late nights in a row to get assignments done on time. Kelci Lynn Lucier has worked in higher education for ten years, and has experienced students struggle to try and find the balance between extracurricular activities, personal activities, and education priorities. Luckily, Lucier has four tips to help best use the time provided in a day. Lucier’s first step focuses on managing ones academic time and how it needs to be the top priority above all other curricular activities, stating: “It's important to remind yourself why you're in college in the first place: to graduate” (Lucier). Lucier’s second step is be able to manage personal time, she talks about how unrealistic it is to always be working, studying, or learning, she wants students to try and find time to do something fun with friends or a club. Lucier’s third step is to wkeep the students health in mind, it does no good to stay up until two in the morning studying over a history mid-term, only to be half asleep for the test anyway; sleep is important and without can only increase the stress. Lucier’s fourth and final step is to not be afraid to seek help with your time management, she states: “The most important thing to have for time
The use of persuasive rhetoric writing can be helpful in the working world, especially when you need people to follow you. Using Ethos, is a way to approach your audience by establishing common ground, instead of coming off as authoritative. Even if someone doesn’t have the same views as you, if you acknowledge their values and beliefs, it’s easier to persuade them, because they see you do care about their opinion. As I move forward in any form of communication it is important to keep that in mind, and next year I’ll being using it a lot as president of CAC. Being the president of club means you have to communicate with your members, and the general public. CAC is involved in getting others to help, with the biggest event we hold, Relay for Life.
In order to create a persuasive essay, the author must take into consideration the following points: the audience attitude, the organization of the speech and the appropriate use of the ethical guidelines.
Nicholas Kristof’s, New York Times article, “I Am Very Afraid I Will Die Tonight”, covers the nightmares that are going on in Syria and why the USA should be taking action to put it to an end. Civilians are currently being terrorized by their own government as they are intentionally dropping bombs on on them. They are doing this as a method of attempting to fight back against the extremists. According to Kristof’s article, the United States has put minimal effort towards stopping these horrors, and there is much more we can do to stop it. To carry out his argument, Kristof uses different rhetorical appeals.
The main points in chapter 3 section 3.1 and 3.2 was how rhetorical strategies make messages persuasive. Messages persuade through their angle of vision. The angle of vision causes a reader to see a subject from one perspective only-the writer's. Writers create an angle of vision through strategies such as the following: stating point of view directly, selecting some details while omitting others, choosing words or figures of speech with intended connotations, and creating emphasis or de-emphasis through sentence structure and organization. The angle of vision or the lens is persuasive because it controls what the reader sees. Unless readers are rhetorically savy, they can lose awareness that they are seeing the writer's subject matter through a lens that both reveals and conceals. Writer's use angle of vision to look at the subject from a certain location, or to use another metaphor, the writer wears a lens that colors or filters the topic in a certain way. The angle of vision, lens, or filter determines what part of a topic gets seen and what remains unseen, what gets included or excluded, and what gets emphasized or de-emphasized.
The new advances in technology allow businesses to reach different customer bases. This includes buying and selling products over the Internet. The online shopping process is considered e-commerce. E-commerce is made up of different behaviors but for the purpose of this discussion the three discussed are consumer-to-consumer (C2C), business-to-business (B2B), and consumer-to-business (C2B). The different behaviors have different mediums to reach their targeted audience. The message for each behavior persuades a particular audience to purchase a product using that particular medium. Consumers and businesses look to the web for cost-effective ways to sell and buy products.
Among words on paper, one hardly finds oneself to question their particular style or preferences in writing. I as a writer can tell you how the basis of my “madness” works, but who are we joking, that would just be utterly extensive and boring. Within the different types of genres one person can write about, I find persuasive, argumentative, and research/informational writings to be the most appealing. I tend to be a very opinionative person, meaning that if I hear any of some sort of injustice or intriguing thought said, don’t think twice of hearing my stance on that topic. Therefore, especially with persuasive essays, I will always find my pen promptly trying to catch up, while my thoughts keep rushing in, in order to get on paper. It’s a formative writing piece, that I can easily state my claim and through using accurate information, will no longer be an assignment, more or less it will turn into a conversation between my writing and my thoughts. Nevertheless, when it comes to
We exist in a generation where young adults are held to higher standards than ever before. Expected to know what they want to do for the rest of their lives at just 16. Early on we are ingrained this ideal, that your life should be set, that your main goal is financial stability the minute you become an adult. As our society continues to evolve, what is expected increase. Creating almost impossible to reach expectation inflicting a great ordeal of stress on teens and young adults. Teenagers and young adults are pressured into meeting the unrealistic and demanding standards of society, inflicting stress, which could potentially throw venerable teens off the edge. Pushing them towards a getaways like drinking, drugs, and even suicided. This commercial attempts to aware and advise young people that regardless of the
Thesis Statement: When the projects, exams, and extra-curricular activities start to pile up on one another it seems as though there is not enough time in the day. This is when college students tend to lose precious hours of sleep and the consequences can be costly.
I’ve chosen the form of a persuasive essay that would be published in a school library targeting early adulthood. The reason why I have chosen this form of writing is because I’m able to use a formal language. This is to include real life examples that allows me to express the topic even more so it makes it easier for the audience to understand. I’ve chosen early adulthood as the audience because I feel like they can relative this piece more than younger children because they are more exposed to changes in identity and may find it harder to belong to certain groups as they grow up.
Only seven states in the US teach cursive California, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Massachusetts, and North Carolina. In my opinion cursive writing should not still be taught. First of all there’s no time with the busy teachers to teach cursive, only seven states still teach it, and you really only need it for your signature.
