A person is thinking of getting a pet to be his companion and to entertain his kids, but he has encountered a predicament: they choose a mediocre feline or a magnificent canine. While there are many advantages of each option, the dog is a better option for companionship, protection, and loyalty.

As many more pet parents are adopting and falling in love with these animals and being able to connect with them on an emotional level, Pet parents are able to relate and equate animals to human children. Many more couples are finding themselves with fewer children or not wanting to have the burden of raising actual children. As a result this trend keeps growing. Another reason that people are starting to see the increasing number in this trend is some adults are finding themselves with the loneliness, where the children they once had are moving away. These animals are feeling a void of loneliness. According to a recent survey done by Stanley Cohen about eighty-one percent of people do not consider themselves to be just a pet owner, but a pet parent and treating their pets equal to their children.

A person must first accept themselves before being able to be accepted by others. A dog owner has been found to be extraverted, agreeable, and conscientious. They also rate themselves more masculine, independent, and athletic (Crammer). Cat owners tend to be more neuroticism and open to new experiences. Whereas people who own horses are found to have a large amounts of masculine characteristics but lower in nurturing (Crammer). Turtle owners normally have a high sense of belonging and are determined while being dependable. Concluding with bird owners who have strong connections, are nurturance and are loving and social (Crammer). All of these contribute to how a person is seen not only by themselves but also by society. This gives them a place where they belong and can thrive to move forward as a person. Their characteristics show others who they are and determine how they treat others. Giving people a community in which they can rely on in any circumstance. Their pets also get them a gateway to meeting new people while creating bonds between animals. That bond also creates a way for people to realize who they are from a personal level.
