Persuasive Speech On Adopting A Dog

In 2000, 68 million dogs were owned in the United States. In 2017, a total of around 89.7 million dogs in the United States alone, lived in a household. As the years past more and more people are adopting dogs. Some of those owners are new to having a pet and should learn how to take care of them.

Every dog is a responsibility, and it takes a kind hearted person to go through the process of adoption. Through shelters it’s about an hour process to adopt. They ask for your current pets (if there is any) vet, the phone number of the vet, every one who lives in the house phone number, so they can call and see if they are okay with having a new furry friend in the house. They give scenarios that could possibly happen with a new puppy in the house for example, what do you do if the puppy is digging in the yard? Or what do you do if the mailman comes to the door and the dog starts barking? The process is long but it is worth it. The shelters even off puppy training classes that’ll teach them household manners, which includes potty training, leash training so that they will be able to go on walks without having to wear a harness. Introduction: Today I will persuading my audience the benefits of getting a dog as a pet. Dogs can offer companionship, protection and even improve your health. Sixty eight percent of U.S households own a pet according to the 2017-2018 National Pet Owners Survey calculated by American Pet Products Association (APPA), and majority of the pets owned are dogs, weighing in at sixty percent. Dogs are domesticated animals that consist of various breeds such as Yorkie Terriers, German shepherds and more. There are over three hundred breeds according to the World Canine organization. This organization is the largest registry of certified dog breeds. This canine organization recognizes three hundred and thirty nine breeds of dogs which are classified into ten groups based on the dog’s function or size. There are various unique breeds that can fit into one’s specific lifestyle, giving no excuse not to have a dog to compliment ones personality.

Imagine walking in the door after a long day; your furry loving puppy is sprinting towards you so excited to see you after missing you all day. Your puppy is ready to grab your attention and distract you from the terrible day you’ve had, comforting you in the process. I will be critiquing my persuasive speech on puppy mills. The issue of puppy mills is one that is very important to me, and I was very dedicated to my speech. My speech informed the audience of the detrimental effects that puppy mills have on dogs, possible solutions to the problem, and how the audience could help. My persuasive goal was to try and convince the audience to help put a stop to the issue of puppy mills by adopting a dog from a shelter or rescue organization, or contacting their local legislature about the issue. My speech had assets and drawbacks which were apparent in my content and delivery. My strengths included my PowerPoint, the emotional appeal, and the commitment to my topic. My weaknesses were the length of my speech, maintaining eye contact, and my verbal delivery. However, these can be amended using several easy methods, such as timing myself while I practice, writing notes on my cards to remind me to keep eye contact, and practicing more in general. The most vital aspect of my speech was that it exhibited strong features.
