This course has allowed me to develop my pace when researching and creating subject materials, which in the future should allow me to use as a graduate nurse.
Nursing is a dynamic profession and life long learning is essential for nurses to stay current with the increased complexity of the healthcare needs of today and into the future. In other words, the needs of our patients are changing, as we must change in order to be prepared to better serve that need.
Nurses are at the center of the health care industry, and are in a sole position of power. The academic area of my life involves being a pre-nursing student. In this discourse community we share collective goals such as studying, earning excellent grades, achievement into nursing school, and eventually becoming a nurse. Nurses are very important to society; their remarkable discourse community stands out in the health community. Their work provides trustworthiness to the provided of drugs and information given from doctors. Healthcare will always be needed, and with healthcare we need people who are well train in their field to be on top of their game and be knowledgeable about the healthcare. We might not always trust that our doctor knows what they are prescribing us but we can trust that our nurses have the knowledge of what they distribute. There are general fallacies among the field of nursing and several things to think about before following the path of a

Administration of medication to a patient is an interdisciplinary concern. When dealing with medication, nurses are held with as much accountability as other members within the medical team. To uphold this standard, it is important for nurses to stay informed with new research to help provide better care to their patients. The nursing community also adheres to the “nursing process,” a guide that nurses utilize to achieve well-rounded care. Nurses can relate the nursing process not only to their plan of care, but also to different subjects to systematically analyze information. Applying the nursing process to this research created a connection that allows awareness of the
As nurses we need to help our patient’s meet their new health goals upon being discharged from the hospital. One of the things we will need to provide them with is the necessary medication teaching for new medications as it relates to their diagnosis and to any changes if any, to their current medications. One of the first things necessary for us to do is to look at our patient completely. That means we need to look at the patient’s current situation, their background, develop a nursing diagnoses, set personalized goals that are measurable and has reachable outcomes, determine possible necessary interventions, foreseeable patient, family and culture concerns, other possible barriers and also be able to evaluate the plan of care.
Throughout this program, each class has really broadened by skills and knowledge to prepare me for practice as a family nurse practitioner delivering excellent evidence-based medicine. The first class where we learned about the role of the advance practice nurse really set the tone for what to expect as a provider and what each role entails. Moving on to the theory class, it was discovered how much nursing theory really plays a part in caring for patients. My knowledge was increased on the different theories and how one can relate them to patient situations by participating in discussion questions and preparing papers. Also, it was known that theory is what guides research to better patient care. Pathophysiology was really the building block for the makeup of the human body. One has to be proficient in knowing how different systems in the body function and how they can be affected by other processes. By reading the provided textbooks, writing papers, and participating in discussion with other classmates, my knowledge of pathophysiology was taken to a new level. The 2 advanced nursing classes really reinforced common problems that can affect different parts of the human body and how care should be managed for these conditions. There was an abundance of learning during these 2 classes that really helped prepare us for clinical rotations and
The health care field is ever changing, the article The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health (2010), explains all the changes that need to happen in the health care system (Institute of Medicine, 2010). The recommendations that the Institute of Medicine has for the health care field are ones that are important for the workers as well as the patients. This report applies to my career because being in the master’s program I am furthering my education, which is one of the messages that this article has to the readers (Institute of Medicine, 2010, p. 4). Message one is also relevant to my career because it talks about nurse residency program and I have been in a program for a little over a year (Institute of Medicine, 2010, p. 5). As a nurse doing continuing education is a way of following new trends and developments in information.
Nurses play a huge role when it comes to healthcare and keeping individuals alive and healthy. Nurses aid in the well-being of their patients by promoting, protecting, and optimizing their health by relieving suffering through various steps of nursing diagnosis, treatment, and by being advocates for their client’s. Registered nurses (RN’s) are a type of nurse that is registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario and they have a major role and responsibility in the direct care for their patients. According to the College of Nurses of Ontario, “Nursing is a profession that is focused on collaborative relationships that promote the best possible outcomes for clients.” (CNO, 2014, pg 3, para 2) To provide best possible outcomes for clients, the roles of nurses are constantly changing due to the fact there are many possible different ways to improve and treat health because each individual is unique. An area that needs to be expanded within the registered nurse’s range of practice is the ability to prescribe drugs since it is a topic that registered nurses currently are not competent to do so. The healthcare system in Canada and Ontario would be faster and more efficient if registered nurses are allowed to prescribe medications.

I feel if I am able to achieve a good grade for each course, I have proven to myself that I have understood the material. I hope to get the most out of each class by taking the feedback from my classmates and professors in a constructive manner.
As the next generation of pharmacists, we need to be well versed in the current state of our profession. While this is easier said than done, it is something worth pursuing if we are to stand our ground as a profession and adapt to the shifting landscape of healthcare. In order to get the full grasp of where our profession stands, we must have a strong understanding of the current relationships we hold in the healthcare system. This means working with the community, healthcare providers, and regulatory officials.
There are always new discoveries on how to better treat a patient and I am an open person who yearns for this knowledge. My college education will provide a background knowledge and conceptual framework to public health competencies that will develop programs and also advocated for health equity policies in the community. By being involved in direct patients care I will do more than help people heal, but I am also becoming part of the community and being something bigger than myself. When I earned my Master’s degree in nursing, I want to be as prepared as possible by knowing the best method of treatment. Medicine is constantly changing, and I am excited to explore in hopes to find new methods of treatment. I want to immerse myself in the medical
