It was an ordinary winter day in the city of Lynn, Massachusetts. As people headed to work and school they looked forward to the adventures the weekend would bring the next day. However, not so far away, Henry Rosario and his wife, Wendy Contreras, waited anxiously in their apartment knowing that the moment that would change their lives forever was near. “As my first daughter it was very painful, scary, and anxious” (Contreras interview). After waiting for what seemed like forever, they decided to go to Salem Hospital. Once they arrived, however, they were told by the doctor that she was not was not ready to deliver yet and was sent back home. At home, Wendy paced around the living room in agony waiting for the moment to come so she could get …show more content…
During the month, a man named Rubin and his colleagues presented data from their sequencing of select genome regions of various primate species related closely to humans in a method called "phylogenetic shadowing" that reveals regulatory regions and coding in the human genome (Gibbs and Nelson). “Sequencing a collection of closely related primate species could yield a better appreciation for the range of DNA sequence alterations that take place during speciation” (Gibbs and Nelson). This discovery could help achieve the short-term goals to identify gene control elements along with the long-term goals to understand overall differences among species. At the same time, the Laboratory for Drug Discovery in Neurodegeneration (LDNN) was coming up with a model for how to translate academic research into new drugs that industry is unlikely to pursue. “LDDN hopes to serve as a model for how academia can better turn its basic research findings into drugs to treat the many diseases that fall off the pharmaceutical industry's radar” (Alper). These new drug developments can help find cures to diseases such as Alzheimer's, Huntington's Disease, and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. Finally, after the Columbia shuttle crash on February 1, 2003, NASA began using cutting-edge tools to analyze …show more content…
As the month began…(Insert more) . “‘Death, that reliable old nemesis, is back for more in ‘Final Destination 2,’ which suffers from the same rancid dialogue and acting problems as the original but with a much funnier pulse... Unlike several recent horror items trembling at the thought of an R rating -- and thus dampening their on-screen effect -- this sequel goes for the bloody gusto, and will have the target older teen and horror auds eating it up, with steady return customers in vid”’ (Koehler, “Final Destination 2” 33). As the month continued…(Insert more). “ In a prearranged ruse, the gal arranges matters so her target guy dumps her in 10 days' worth of dating hell -- but she doesn't know her guy is also playing a game to make her fall in love with him in the same period. Given the solid biz other lackluster romantic comedies have done over the past few weeks, this one could follow suit for a spell, followed by further appreciation by the undemanding vid-viewing bedroom set” (Koehler, “How to Lose” 32). Finally, as the month continued, The sequel “The Jungle Book 2” was released on February 7th , 2003 and picked up where the original movie terminated. “The G rating notwithstanding, some quick cuts of beasts jumping into view will prove startling to small fry.
Coming from a lonely and abusive home Mary had to find happiness outside of her house. Her mom made a friend from their church and she happened to have a three month year old baby. Mary always occupied the Richardson’s by helping with baby Alyssa, while also distracting herself from reality. Meeting the Richardson’s ended up being Mary’s worst nightmare. One night the Richardson’s went out and asked Mary and her mother to watch Alyssa.
Marissa’s birth seemed to produce sole alterations and the possible for the unified healing of the family. Abe and Mary Ayala worked as a team early on to try to save their daughter by bringing another precious life on earth instead of having to fill the gaps if something worse was to happen to Anissa. Ayala’s family presence for their loved one’s (Anissa) experience was exceptional, one that could not be provided by strangers and one for which the family was appreciative. The family experienced a greater wisdom of presence and at times a greater sense of togetherness for their loved one during and after miraculous transitions. This could be the Ayala’s family being upfront that often brought a more insightful profundity to the entire family’s relationship. Each family member gained personal comprehension that assisted the family to understand Anissa’s ailment
Caroline West had been abandoned three days after her birth, by some woman she didn't know, but that would all change today. After months of investigating and digging through hospital documents she had found the woman who was her mother: It had taken forever to sift through all the papers. But that hadn't deterred her -- after all how many pregnant women could leave a hospital without a child and not have it written down somewhere? Three to be precise, well at least on that Halloween night there had only been three. One woman had given birth to a boy, so that excluded her immediately. The second woman had been forced to give birth to her stillborn daughter and she was alive so that
She was evicted from her income based three bedroom home due to falling behind on her rent. With nowhere to go, her husband (a convicted felon) who was recently released from jail moved his pregnant wife and kids into his mother’s home. His mother’s home did not have any additional space to share. There are four adults and six children in the house with a seventh on the way. With limited space in the refrigerator, Gloria has to hide food in her bedroom to ensure others do not eat her kid’s food. Moving to a different area in the city made it difficult to get her children back and forth to school. Noticing the enormous amount of school the children had missed the Department of Services for Children, Youth and Their Families (DSCYF) was notified in order to open an investigation. The investigation added additional stress to the already strained marriage, financial issues, housing circumstances and the pregnancy. Gloria was already dealing with too much. The pressure of everything was overwhelming. At twenty-seven weeks pregnant, Gloria begins cramping and spotting blood. She alerts her husband who was in the bed. Concerned she needs to be seen by a doctor; she walks several miles and then takes public transportation to the hospital. She is examined and quickly rushed into emergency surgery. With no time to get medicated a caesarean section is preformed to deliver her baby who was in
In 1929, Clara became pregnant at the age of thirty-five, regarded as too advanced in years to begin a family. An unexpected child this late in life, of course, created elation for the blessed arrival. However, in addition to Clara’s age, her familial and personal history also caused grave concerns for the safety of both mother and baby. The death of Clara’s mother from frail health attributed to childbirth and the death of Clara’s only sibling, a brother, during his first year of life weighed heavily on Bill, Clara, and Anton.28 Furthermore, a miscarriage early in their marriage, while still farming in Peaceful Valley, exacerbated the concern.29 In an era when childbirth occurred at home,
The arrival of a new baby brings excitement, joy, and anticipation. The Robertson family was certainly no exception to these feelings when their son Steven was born. Ida and John Robertson were like most new parents when it came to expectations and interactions with their son on a daily basis. This nuclear family of three soon realized their way of life would be altered as they struggled to adapt to Steven’s condition. As their little boy continued to grow, the parents would enquire about genetic testing, search for a school conducive to Steven’s needs, and learn to embrace a lifestyle in which Steven would thrive.
This was the first day of the music festival, Woodstock. I could feel the butterflies in my stomach as April looked back at me, her smile bright like the sun or that awful salmon colored shirt. April was bursting with excitement as she jump up and down while others stared at her. It was probably because they never seen a pregnant woman jump. April was rich, 9 month pregnant widow who models for a living. She loved music so much, she was willing to go to a crowded, claustrophobic area just for music, even if she was about to burst. I thought it was going to be a simple ‘listen to groovy music and head home’. I never thought that April would get mad mood swings, lose herself in a wave of people, and actually break her water.

Catherine Pike gazed lovingly at the bundles of joy she had finally met. After years of trying for a baby, her hopes had at last been recognized. All she ever dreamt of was bundled up like a burrito and placed in her arms. Her husband Nathaniel was equally as excited.
Prenatal Health. Neither prenatal health, nor prenatal care, was cited within the case information. Thus, it remains unknown as to what kind of care Maria’s mother received – advanced, adequate, or inadequate. Advanced and adequate prenatal care could support the notion that Maria is medically sound, while inadequate prenatal care could suggest the presence of an underlying health condition. In the case of Maria, inadequate prenatal care could also explain her inability to decipher fact from fiction. As evidenced by her outburst, it could be presumed that Maria is incapable of recognizing this distinction, as she began to cry uncontrollably when her teacher criticized, and coolly corrected, her birth story. The inability to consider another point of view, and instead engage in defensive behavior,
With the discovery of a pregnancy comes a wide range of possible emotions that can be experience for those that are expecting a newborn. Under certain circumstances, such as proper financial means and emotional and mental readiness, a child is cause for celebration and happiness. Unfortunately, this is not always the case, and in the case of the alternate reality of The Walking Dead, Lori’s pregnancy proves to have come at a time less than convenient, prompting the controversial question of how to react in regards to the news. In a broken down society where the surviving population fears for their lives and struggles to support themselves, the added burden of a newborn can cause an added strain that could potentially lead to the question of whether or not to go through with the pregnancy. The issues that could potentially arise with both the pregnancy and childbirth, as well the years immediately after, relate very closely to those that can and do plague individuals in impoverished communities, putting into debate if the child itself is worth the trouble of the issues that go along with it.
It was the year 2014, Lauren Prezioso had gone to the beach at Coffs Harbour Creek in New South Wales, Australia, with her husband Gustavo and son, Enzo. She expected nothing but to enjoy the sun, sand, waves and quality time with her family. Sadly for Lauren, the expectation of having a typical beach day was cut short, when she heard a women screaming for help: her two boys, that did not know how to swim, were being pulled into the sea. Lauren waited for someone to help the boys, but when no one did she took it upon herself to save them. Without anymore thought, Lauren dove into the water -eight months pregnant and reached for the boys, holding one in each arm. However, because both of her arms were holding a child, her head kept going under
This essay deals with the circumstances and challenges faced by 24-year-old Hailey, who became pregnant when she was 18, and now lives with Casey, her six-year-old daughter. Hailey has been referred to social services cell for appropriate social work intervention. She has been engaging in bouts of anger issues and has a history of suffering from binge eating weight loss.
Screams filled the room faster than light, the nurses shaking as they held the tools, blankets and little hat. The man in the corner whimpering before letting out a cry of anger. A single sigh came out of the tired doctor as he held the child in his arms. The screams being heard were not of the child, but of the mother who was sitting on the delivery bed with sweat and tears mixing together before falling off her chin. The doctor looked at the child once more before announcing the apparent death. Perhaps if the doctor had paid closer attention to the child he would have realized the complications, the risks involved. Or perhaps the doctor knew but went with the pregnancy
On the day she was born, I remember staring down at my lap, our precious bundle heaped in my arms and thinking something was missing. The child was there, but the feeling that’s supposed to come with it was not. Stories told from proud parents, always accompanied by a loving smile invariably recited the feeling of utter happiness and content, love gushing like a bubbling fountain for their offspring. Like a tack to a cork board, I’d pinned exactly what was missing. I’d wanted a child; I hardly ever made rash decisions. But this, this was not what I’d expected. Maybe it was the way her eyes looked tired, like they’d already seen a world filled with horrors – it was like gazing into my own. Maybe it was how her cries were
