Music is widely used to accompany physical exercises. I have developed a playlist using BMRI-3. It consists of 10 songs that are designed for a series of workout, including warm up stretching, moderate-intensity cardio exercise (treadmill), and a high-intensity weight training routine (ab crunch, leg press and dumbbell bench press). The main purpose is to motivate and increase my intensity during the workout. I have selected songs with relatively lower intensity to start off my exercises because they prepared me for the workout session while I was doing warm-up stretching. When I started doing cardio, I chose songs with higher intensity that would suit the fast pace of running on treadmill because it requires continuous fast movement. After …show more content…
It is suggested that exercises can be performed for a longer period of time with music than without it, and it is more effective when fast music is played. In addition, same level of exertion is perceived with music although the duration has increased (Thakur & Yardi, 2013). I found this to be quite true since my endurance level became higher when I listen to songs with fast and upbeat tempo like this, the rhythm had motivated me to continue the exercise.
7. Samantha Jade (2013). Firestarter. On Firestarter (Single). Sony Music Australia. Initial & Final Rating = 31
This is another dance-pop song with a fast tempo of 129 BPM and also the last song I listened to on the treadmill. Initially, I chose this song because I thought it would have the same effect as the previous songs with a similar genre. However, it seemed to have very little or even no influence on my performance. The result is consistent with Karageorghis’ (2006) findings from a study where despite fast tempo music is preferred during high-intensity exercises, the lack of variety in music may result in negative psychological outcomes and boredom which failed to motivate me.
8. Christina Aguilera (2003). Fighter. On Stripped (CD/Album). Sony Music Entertainment. Initial Rating = 36, Final Rating =
Not only does music affect thought, but it also benefits health. Students usually study in quiet, relaxed surroundings while listening to serene music. Classical music can steady a fast heartbeat and a slower heartbeat induces relaxation. Exercise plays a critical role in maintaining good health, and relaxing music can be favorable to this. Music reduces muscle tension, resulting in a better work out. Scientists performed controlled studies using adult males who were around twenty-five years old. Blood samples were taken before and after treadmill running. The experiment found that with the presence of music, “heart rate, blood pressure, and lactate secretion in the brain were significantly lower” . The results proved that music

The purpose of this experiment was to see how different genres of music affect blood pressure (BP). The hypothesis was that songs with higher beats per minute (BPM) would cause an increase in BP. The items that were used in this experiment were an automatic BP monitor, a mp3 player, five different types of music, and a set of headphones. The subject would stand for a minute, have the resting BP measured, then listen to the selected song for two minutes, and again have the BP measured. From all of the genres Meditation the music that lowered BP the most, while Rock raised it significantly.
Inspired by the success of her girls group, Beyoncé began her solo career with her debut solo album called ‘Dangerously in Love’. The album was released in the year 2003. The songs were inspired by hip hop, R&B and Arabic music. The album established her as a solo star as it was a huge hit.
Music is composed of sounds intertwined with melody and rhythm that can have powerful effects on a person. It can help people focus on tasks or calm the mind. Research has shown that music has beneficial effects on the mind, body, and health of a person. A journal article by Rastogi, Solanki, and Zafar (2013) refers, on the contrary, to:
The main focus of this experiment is to see if the the tempo of the music has an impact on how fast you complete a mile. “Tempo is the speed or pace of a piece ” (https://courses.candelalearning.com/musicappreciationxmaster/chapter/introduction-to-tempo ). Typically, a piece of music has between 60-220 beats per minute “The greater the number of beats per minute, the smaller the amount of time between successive beats, and thus the faster a piece must be played” (https://courses.candelalearning.com/musicappreciationxmaster/chapter/introduction-to-tempo ). The tempo of the music will be used as the independent variable, which is the variable that is changing.
Using BMRI-3, I am able to choose a selection song that will help me to test out how music can impact workout routines in term of synchronization, timing and efficiency. In order to achieve such result, I choose songs that are from a wide spectrum of genres such as dance, pop or EDM. This is an interesting process as despite staying with mostly high tempo song, certain songs give very different outcomes. Reflecting constantly on the rating system, I expect it can provide me a much accurate scaling for each song, in the hope of creating an effective playlist. Overall, the playlist demonstrates a wide range of impact on body during physical activity.
Music is my best method of release, enhanced by my run. My exercise playlist never fails to mirror my mood. Harmonies of classical composer used to fill my time as I would tirelessly pound their pieces on the piano and violin. My naivete concealed the agonizing stories behind the stark white sheet music. I’m astounded as I now unveil their stories throughout my run: Shostakovich rebelling against the Russian government and fighting for his freedom through his melodies. Beyonce radiating strength and power yet beauty in women through her lyrics. The notes intertwine to form stories that transforms a calming yet repetitive task, like running, into a captivating new
Exercise to Music You Love: Take the time to put an MP3 together that includes music that you love to exercise to. This is one of the ultimate fitness tips as recent research has shown that listening to music you enjoy actually increases dopamine levels, and makes you feel happier.
After completing the EFI assessment I will probably never hear these songs again. However, I found a lot about how these songs effect my feelings. Before listening to my music I was really calm sitting down on my bed. I tend to listen to music while I lay down or need some rest. For this assignment I did not listen to the music and graphed my feelings using the EFI feeling scale. I was surprised how high it was when I graphed my physical exhaustion. I believe it was high because I was really tired. After first completing my first EFI assessment I listen to my playlist. The graph was completely different this time. I was in a better and more relaxing mood before listening to the music. My tranquility went way up compared to before listening
