When I think about my future, quite frankly, I’m not sure where I’ll end up. I truly believe my future will depend on my personal happiness no matter what career I end up in. However, that’s not how life goes. In a career, it’s not all flowers and daisies; you sacrifice, you endure, you persevere, and sometimes, you suffer but in the end you are rewarded with a life only dreamed by some. I’m not looking at the medical field for money, I’m looking at it for how it fits to my characteristics. Whether assisting in surgery, conducting physical exams, taking a patient's medical history, developing treatment plans, assisting in surgery, counseling on preventing care, writing prescriptions, or simply making rounds in hospitals or nursing homes, this career is mentally and physically challenging.(enkivillage.com). Nearly every physician’s assistant, you are dependent on some type of medical professional, usually a doctor. It is extremely important that your medical firm fits your needs financially and emotionally. Every office is going to have a different atmosphere in which you have to conform, unless you have your own office, In that case, if you are a physician's assistant you would most likely be in an urgent care clinic. Either way, as a physician’s assistant you are constantly supervised and working with several medical professionals that guide you constantly throughout your work.”Patients are unpredictable, and situations change quickly, so you need to be very adaptable to any situation”(Gap Medics). While being well-educated and adaptable is important to be a physician's assistant, it is extremely important that you know how to communicate calmly and clearly. In my time volunteering at the hospital, I hope to gain many different experiences. However, there are a few main ones: adaptation through enrichment and dependability. First of all, I want to get to know and adapt to the environment of the hospital and learn how different processes work. This is a crucial part of being in the atmosphere of a clinic. Also, the experiences that I will have at the hospital will help me to understand the routines and entailments of the career I would like to pursue. I hope to become a Physician’s Assistant in the future and this will be the best way to know if it is the right position for me. This enrichment of my understanding will help guide my passion for this career path and hopefully strengthen it.

Every year, an estimate of 5.9 million people dies from disease (World Health Organization, 2016). Some of these diseases are caused by bacteria, parasites, virus, trauma, mutations, and environment. Although these diseases can cause death and injury, in many cases, they can be treated by a specialist called a physician. A physician is a person who is qualified to practice medicine. Often, these medical specialists need help in treating large numbers of patients in need of care. In the 1960s, the physician assistant (PA) profession was created.in 1965, there was a noticeable shortage of physicians. Eugene A. Stead Jr., MD, of the Duke University Medical Center assembled the first class to take on the role as physician assistants. These men received medical training in fast track manner to what a physician might learn (Academic Academy of Physician Assistants Organization, 2014).The duties of a physician assistant are similar to what a physician may carry out but differ in some ways. Today, the physician assistant profession is a growing field, but more difficult to achieve. Recently, there has been an increase in the amount of school time and pre requisites to be accepted into a physician assistant graduate program. Specialization of a particular field is even more difficult to achieve. In addition, work environments can be often challenging. However, high salaries and benefits of working in the medical field give reward to the employee.

It was an enlightening experience to be able to shadow a physician assistant now as a physician assistant student compared to my previous experiences as a pre-physician assistant student. I could appreciate and understand more the expectations and demands that comes with the profession. Similarly, how effective a physician assistant may be at meeting the core competencies in the physician assistant profession. While shadowing Pediatric PA Nick Constantino, I found he meet all the competencies in our profession, but the two that stood out to me the most were patient care and medical knowledge.
Throughout my life, I refused to take any part in the medical field. I thought of this field as an unrealistic and difficult road to a successful lifestyle. Experiences in my life and months of weighing the pros and cons caused me to change my mind. Working in the medical field is now my passion; it all begins with majoring in chemistry.
On many occasions my personal goals have come before my professional aspirations. A career in the medical field has always been something I have looked forward to. As a child I wanted and dreamed of being a doctor, however due to the choices I made in life and the priorities that I had not thought of, I have come to realize that my childhood dream may not come true. Yet, I was able to compromise and make short and long term goals that will lead me into a career in the medical field. Because of this self-examination, I have decided to pursue a career in health care. The process has been difficult at times but always illuminating. Throughout it all, I have never lost confidence - the confidence that I will actively absorb all available medical knowledge, forge friendships with fellow students, and emerge from my training as a skilful and caring physician.
