In our experiment we observed a miniature potbellied pig and the way different food would affect the pig. Naturally the feces of the pig will change due to the different food it is fed. A healthy pigs’ stool is supposed to look dark brown and firm, yet not hard. We closely observed the pigs feces for any changes. It also can affect the pig’s weight and fur color. The way we set our experiment was to determine what kinds of food would affect the pig in a positive way. The environment of the pig pig consisted of being in a stable surrounded by sheep and chicken. However, she had her own space to eat.
For the entire month the pig was fed a cup and a half of feed and two cups of fruits twice throughout the day, once in the morning and once in
In movies you hear some things about guinea pigs. You may hear that they are mostly used as test subjects. You may hear that people eat them in South America. You may think that guinea pigs are gross, long tailed rodents, but they aren’t. In my opinion guinea pigs are cute. And they have no tail. But they are classified as a rodent.
A Pig’s Perspective is about one pig’s revenge on barbecue. A Pig’s Perspective is a very humorous personal story from Pollan. It is a tale of his pet pig, Kosher. Kosher escaped one summer day and followed the scent of a barbecue at a neighbor’s yard. He knocked over the barbecue grill and made off with the meat that was being cooked. His neighbor found the pig’s transgression very comical. Pollan suggests that the deed was the pig’s vengeance.
Instinctual Behaviors Social structure -For pigs the hierarchy is part of their social structure it’s formed at social maturity levels and is developed as fast as when they are a week old. Piglets form a teat and it stays the same as long as they are still in the same group together. Usually the largest pig in the group is the domain in the group. If pigs do not know each other they will fight until their remains one big tough pig that bosses the others which is the dominate one in the pen.Reproduction - pigs have a very high reproductive cycle since they can produce more than two litters of piglets a year. Sows female pigs have a heat cycle of twenty-one days you can tell the sow is in heat when they stand still to having pressure on their back and lower back without wanting to get away. That means she is ready and accepts the boar male pig. It's important to know the signs of when the pigs are in the state of heat and their behavior. It usually takes three to five minutes then separate the pigs and repeat in twelve to twenty-four hours.Mothering - Sows behavior is crucial to the development of growth for the piglet. Before she is ready to give birth hours before the sow nest builds with straw, grass, and other materials in her environment. Nursing is frequent and is good for the growth of the piglets. The milk has an impact on nursing behavior individual patterns are repeated with sows.Feeding - You should feed them good clean food and feed them one time. Follow how much
5. Were the experimental and control groups similar in their type of feeding? Provide a rationale for your answer.
Christmas break was finally over, so it was time to return to the stressful world known as school. I wanted to check on my guinea pig, Sparky, when I first woke up at six o’clock a.m. to see how he was doing. However, once I had lifted the small pink den that he slept under, I had discovered the ugly truth. The guinea pig that I had adopted from PetSmart nearly two weeks ago lay there unmoving, motionless. I had tried picking him up to put him in his small carrier, but he was very stiff and heavy, so I decided to leave him until my parents had found out.
"Duties Done", a piece from The Pig that Wants to Be Eaten, explores the difference between a fulfilled promise and an unfulfilled one. "Duties Done" is a short story about four characters, Hew, Drew, Lou, and Sue. The family all promised their mother that they would regularly write letting her know how everything was going during their expedition around the world. It is here where the question arises of whether the children actually kept their promise. Even though they promised frequent written updates on their travels, none of them actually arrived and their mother never received any updates. Though each child did write to their mom, Lou and Sue were the only children whom actually made a sincere effort to fulfill the promise to their mother.
As children make transitions throughout their life, they can determine what kind of person they want to be. They are given the frame work from their parents or parent figures, but ultimately they have to make choices that will determine who they become. As children grow up their parent figure won’t always be there to tell them the right choice to make or how to act, but they can use what their parents have taught them to think about those choices. The actual choice which is all that matters is up to them to make and even if they make the choice that their parents had taught them to make they still made it and therefor are creating their own identity. The author of “Babe the Gallant Pig” uses a pig and a dog as the child and the parent figures to show the dynamic on how children are responsible for creating their own identity and why they are forced to do it with little help from their parents.
On pages 141 and 142 in Pigs in Heaven by Barbara Kingsolver, she asserts that luck has changed from being something that could be used to have fun with, to becoming a sad and depressing part of life because of how it was being used. Kingsolver supports her position by showing how Las Vegas had changed, and with it the luck involved. Kingsolver writes in an effort to relate luck to the previous part of the book about Lucky Buster being saved from falling into the Hoover Dam in order to show how luck and chance are a big theme and motif of the book. The author uses a narrative tone and tells the story in first person point of view showing that the audience is the general public and they all have more or less luck that they can relate with from the passage.
This semester, in biology lab, I learned copious amount of information. In biology lab, I have learned about the scientific method. The scientific method is very important when it comes to science it is the perfect blueprint in conducting an experiment. Starting with the basic principles of science, you will use the scientific method always when you are administering an experiment . Also this semester, we have learned about the dissection of a fetal pig. In the fetal pig there's the thoracic cavity, abdominopelvic cavity and the ventral cavity. In the Thoracic cavity it contains the respiratory system everything that is a gas chamber which are: trachea, bronchi, bronchioles. Then it’s the circulatory system that transport the blood throughout
Due to the results that were gained throughout the investigation it was found that the hypothesis in which was first devised was incorrect in stating the energy daily weight of the cattle will have increased by the end of the investigation, providing that they had suffiecient access to daily nutrition. By look at the averages in their total weight each day, it can clearly be seen that the inconsistencies, in table 2, are providing an inaccurate basis as to whether the average daily weight of the herd increased over he duration of the investigation.
I have always had an affinity for animals; my entire life I have been surrounded by dogs, cats, parrots, guinea pigs, and other miscellaneous creatures. Part my passion for animals turned to showing guinea pigs competitively during middle and high school for five years. Sowing guinea pigs is much like showing rabbits; the quality of the animal determines show placement. At the height of my showing career, I had over one hundred guinea pigs for breeding and showing that I personally cleaned, fed, watered and nurtured. During my time showing guinea pigs, I formed connections with people from varying backgrounds and regions, and I even attended shows that were held in Canada. I put in a lot of hours taking care of and handling my animals and was rewarded with numerous Best in Show awards. My time showing guinea pigs taught me to be committed to activities that I enjoyed, how to care for animals, and also allowed me to travel the state and out-of-country to interact with people.
Over the many years pigs have developed and evolved into what they are today, 30 differing species of exotic and wild hogs that we know today, all around the planet. Wild pigs, even though not native to America still pose and ecological and economic risk to the nation. Feral swine, as descendants from domestic pigs, still pose considerable challenges in population control efforts. (Ditch off 2007, P. 149) Through strict wildlife management plans, monitoring and follow through actions, we can work to strike an advantageous balance with these invasive invertebrates.
While reading The Pigman, I found myself connecting with several of the novel’s themes quite well and, although I can’t say I grew with the characters as the pages went by, I can say that the book is a great read for someone grieving as the book deals quite a bit with death. By the completion of The Pigman, Lorraine and John are well acquainted with the reality of death and have shown the reader different methods of coping when a person in your life has passed. As expressed in the book, we all have ways of dealing with death and we sometimes create ways of escaping or denying the truth. This statement is true for for all three main characters, but especially for Mr. Pignati. He was living in denial about the death of his wife,
The story of the “Three Little Pigs” has been around for a very long time. Parents have been telling their children this tale for generations. This story tells the narrative of three pigs, who construct their homes of three different materials, one straw, one wood and one brick. Then, comes along a Big Bad Wolf, who blows down two of the three homes and then focuses on tricking the final pig into coming out of his house so that he too, can be eaten. In this story, the third little pig, who made his home of brick, was the most admirable because he was clever, hard-working and courageous.
