Platoon is a story of a soldier’s perspective of the Vietnam War. The movie is for the most part told out of the eyes of members of one platoon of the 25th Infantry Division. It is a movie dedicated to all of the people who fought in the Vietnam War.
In the movie, Chris Taylor is a young man from a wealthy family, but while in college, chooses to help his country and do his duty in the Vietnam War. He is sent to Vietnam gets put in the 25th Infantry Division. Chris first has some rough times while over there. He gets bitten by ants while traveling through the jungle, and gets blamed for falling asleep while he was on watch. The North Vietnamese tried and were unsuccessful at ambushing them. However, it was not Chris’s fault (It was a

Chris goes off on a Vietnamese couple that hid from him. Bunny urges Chris to kill him and later, Bunny himself kills the poor Vietnamese man. Meanwhile, Barnes has a talk with the headman of the village about the weapons the platoon has found. Barnes kills the man’s wife and threatens to kill his daughter in order to get him to talk. Elias then breaks up the episode and punches Barnes. In the end, the soldiers burn the village and take the villagers with them. Chris doesn’t think that it is fair and intervenes with some of the soldiers trying to rape a poor village girl. He says, “She isn’t an animal.”
Back at the base camp, the men discuss Barnes' behavior. Elias goes to a lieutenant and tells him of the affair. The lieutenant then tells them that if people were killed for no reason, he would take it up in court. Again, the men are patrolling through the jungle and the Vietnamese attack them. This time the casualties are a little more than in the previous battles. Chris gets his first true kill and gets excited about it. Elias devises a plan and scopes out the enemy position. Barnes goes to get him after Wolfe tells them to get out of the area because they were going to bomb it. Elias runs through the woods and finally finds Barnes. Barnes gives him an evil look and then shoots him. He goes to tell Chris and the men with him to evacuate and tells them that he found Elias dead, “about a hundred yards back.” Chris reluctantly believes him
Gen. John J. Pershing , a veteran of the Spanish-American War, commanded the AEF. The U.S. was far from prepared to send an army to the European front
The author, Tim O'Brien, is writing about an experience of a tour in the Vietnam conflict. This short story deals with inner conflicts of some individual soldiers and how they chose to deal with the realities of the Vietnam conflict, each in their own individual way as men, as soldiers.
One character is obviously the comic relief, another the beloved hero. The rest, valiant men fighting for their country, their lives, their freedom. The scene ends and the curtain rises, all of the pseudo soldiers take a bow and go home to their normal lives, far from the hands of death that grasp at the men forgotten in Vietnam, the real soldiers. They, who saw the hardships of war as more than just a script, beyond the glamorized versions that are seen by the American eyes. They saw the death and the tragedy, slowly becoming worn down into less of a human and more of a desensitized killing machine because that 's what war does. It permanently scars the soldiers, tearing away the feeling of loss and inappropriately replacing it with comedy, showing that war is destructive, stealing away an ounce of humanity with each bullet. As seen in The Things They Carried, written by Tim O 'Brien, the Vietnam War destroyed the minds of soldiers, causing them to lose their human emotions in an unglamorous setting, devaluing death as they lose their ability to appropriately handle situations.
The battle of the bulge was Hitler's last chance to win the war or at least make the allies go for a treaty. He did this because his forces were being pushed back into Germany and soon they would run out of supplies and other resources for war. Hitler thought of this bold plan when he recalled how a German hero Frederick the great was facing defeat, Frederick went on a offensive attack at his foe who had superior numbers but the bold moved worked and Hitler thought he could do the same thing.
November 10, 1775, is revered as being the Marine Corps birthday, and its birthplace being at Tun Tavern, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Continental Congress met at Tun Tavern, to establish two battalions of Continental Marines, under the command of Cpt. Samuel Nicholas, as an amphibious fighting force who would later in March of 1776, participate in their first foreign raid, in the Bahamas (www.globalsecurity.org ). After the Treaty of Paris
In the jungle under the stars, Chris and Elias talk. Chris asks Elias what he thinks about the war and Elias tells him that he thinks that they are going to lose the war. Elias says: ‘We’ve been kicking
The 4th Armored Brigade Combat Team (ABCT) has a proud history of accomplishments. It has served in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Historically, the morale across the brigade was high; leaders took care of their Soldiers, and all of them did their best to train them, accomplish missions successfully, and support them in any way. The 4th ABCT HQ, as well as each of the battalions, were highly efficient and effective, and most of them were jubilant to be part of the brigade. Three years ago, one of the best maneuver brigades in FORSCOM was the 4th ABCT. The brigade had focus; leaders and soldiers were dedicated, and there was a strong work ethics. However, the 4th is facing some challenges ahead that are going to make difficult to reach its full potential. Amongst several leadership problems, there is a major one. There is not an organizational vision in the brigade, and if there is, it is unclear and poorly evident.
Saving Private Ryan is a movie that generates strong responses from most people that see it. While interviewing four individuals and reading three movie reviews, I found that each of my subjects would recommend it, not one of the individuals interviewed felt the violence was senseless, and all of them left the movie with a strong emotional response of some kind. It appears that Saving Private Ryan is the kind of movie to which many can relate.
Throughout the story, Tim O’Brien introduces many characters with certain amounts of emotional and actual weapon weight tied to them. The author gives the narrator the same name as his own, naming the rest of the characters after the men he actually fought beside in Vietnam. This is meant to confuse the difference between fact and fiction, and to tell stories that we don’t know if they 're true or not. The characters often contradict themselves while telling the stories, this also makes what is true and false hard to distinguish from the other.Though not in chronological order, the book tells stories about a group of soldiers during the Vietnam war. Many people die in deaths that are excused with the soldiers “just being boys”, and more weight is added to the platoon. Storytelling is a way for the soldiers to cope in and out of
Black Hearts tells the story of a few bad soldiers from 1st platoon, Bravo company of the 1-502nd Infantry Battalion of the 101st Airborne Division, that was plagued with toxic leadership and lack of control over soldiers. The book documents the events that led to the ultimate demise of the soldiers involved in the horrific incident that occurred on March 12, 2006. Four soldiers were arrested in the brutal murder of an Iraqi family, which was a result of the lack of leadership and structure these soldiers received. Black Hearts takes a deep look into what happened to this troubled platoon and what unfortunate events occurred during their deployment.
According to the author Tim O’Brien, people tend to readily accept the ‘facts’ presented of what happened during a war. People do not consider the existence of fallacies regarding the actual stories of what happens in wars, few consider that the ‘facts’ of an incident often change through people’s words. The film ‘Saving the Private Ryan’ by Steven Spielberg features both facts and seemingness part of the war story. Since it is so difficult to fully describe a war using human language, Spielberg ended up revising his stories to make sense out of it. Spielberg included parts that did not occur or exclude parts that did occur in order to make their stories seem more credible. According
In the movie Platoon there are three principal characters are Chris Taylor (Charlie Sheen), the young college dropout, who's the film's hesitant mouthpiece, and the two sergeants who have effectively split the platoon between them. They are Barnes (Tom Berenger), a seriously out-of-control, life-sized, clay-footed version of the ''fighting machine'' Sylvester Stallone glorifies in ''Rambo,'' and Elias (Willem Dafoe), a man no less tough than Barnes, but whose tours of duty have transformed him into a soft-spoken, almost embarrassed prophet of doom.
The Cycle of the Infantryman applies to fire and maneuver for a combat element. For example purposes the buddy team will be our combat element and a static enemy position (e.g. bunker) will be the target. The phases of the cycle are SHOOT, ASSESS, MOVE, AND KILL. The cycle may loop until there is no longer an enemy threat or until target position is gained. The following is a break down of each phase.

Meaning and purpose can be defined depending on the reader and the author that is defining it. The meaning and purpose of any form of literature is the main point of the piece of work, why it was created and what the author wants the reader to understand or get from his or her work. As for the movie Full Metal Jacket, the director, Stanley Kubrick, wanted to have a combination of comedy as well as a sense of realization when it comes to a soldier becoming a marine and what it takes to be one. The characters throughout the movie each show a different way of understanding and dealing with the problems that they had to quickly overcome.
