Using the information given about each character in the novel Runner by Carl Deuker, I assembled a yearbook entry for each of the main characters on what they were like in high school. Aspects such as what sports, clubs, activities, etc that they were involved in were added to each page. According to each character’s fatal flaws and life situations, each page elaborately gives a clue to what they witnessed on a day to day basis. Whether this be that they floated through the halls as a ghost or how involved they were in the voice of their school. Pictures explaining their high school activities help to pass along this message.
The memoir from the story “Always Running” by Luis J. Rodriguez is a tale that talks about how Luis’s lived in segregation, and how he and his brother, who are people of color, were attacked by a group of five white teenagers. He used many examples of syntax, connotation, and imagery. The first example is Connotation. I circled “...his rep as someone who could take a belt whipping, who could take a beating in the neighborhood and still go back risking more- it was this pathetic plea from the pavement I remember” (Rodriguez 10).

In the poem “The Man in the Dead Machine,” Donald Hall uses vivid imagery and alternative scenarios to emphasize the sheer overwhelming specter of death that loomed over those serving in the greatest conflict known to man. The hook that Hall uses to initially provoke the readers interest is the mentioning of the Grumman Hellcat, a fighter plane used by Americans in World War II. Specifying the model of the fighter plane allows the reader to be knowledgeable about the setting of the poem. The meaning of this poem focuses on the destructivity wartime causes on the life of those in service. The main focal point Hall emphasizes throughout his poem is the uncertainty of life and death. However, other important targets of this poem are suicide

"Running Man" is not only showing the talent of the artist Shapiro, but it is also showing his skills in producing artwork. But why people see it and easy say that this is too simple, and sometime they do not appreciate this product. However, it is not true. Let's ask some questions. First, do people think they can imagine this simple shape before they saw this artwork? - The first idea is always harder than the second. Because people see this simple idea, they start thinking this is simple. Second, do people observe enough about the details of this artwork?- Because people think this is simple, they only see once and automatically remember the shape. They think nothing is special about this piece of art. Final, do people
“The themes of the play are Two Trains Running is a political play that makes extended reference to the black power movement and its impact on poor urban communities like the Hill District of Pittsburgh. The issue of continued white oppression of African Americans and the response of the black community during the 1960s is at the foreground of the characters ' experience. The community surrounding the restaurant is undergoing a major redevelopment, probably one which has been precipitated by the social initiatives that came in the wake of the civil rights movement. However, the legal rights and privileges that the African American community won during the 1950s and 1960s do not seem necessarily to extend to impoverished city-dwellers. An underlying sense of tragedy and hopelessness pervades even short-term victories such as the city awarding Memphis thirty-five thousand dollars, since Memphis remains estranged from his wife and has the foreboding..”
“I thought about Hassan’s dream, the one about us swimming in the lake. There is no monster, he’s said, just water. Expect he’d been wrong about that. There was a monster in the lake… I was that monster.” When looking at this quote some may wonder who would be considered the monster; and in this case Amir would be. The idea of him redeeming himself from being a monster is a recurring theme in the story and the movie.
Goodall, J. (1971). In the Shadow of Man. Boston: Houghton Mifflin. The author’s goal in writing this book is to discuss her experiences and what she had learned from studying wild Chimpanzees. Hosseini gives many examples of how political power such as the Taliban can bring out the evil in people but he also demonstrates how there is oppressive male power in relationships that also brings out the same human nature. He uses overbearing masculine characters in the The Kite Runner and gender roles to express how men were given the right to act in such horrific ways towards women. In Afghanistan there are many restrictions against women. Men have control over their wives and girlfriends. They have the dominant power and since it has been this way for so long it has become a social norm. Eastern culture is obviously different than Western culture when talking about gender roles but, Afghanistan men’s social power over them is immoral
