There are several key factors that the police overlooked that could have caused this case to end sooner. The first being that so many people died under his care. In my opinion if most of the individuals who are seen in your practice end up dead I'm not going to keep coming to you. Obviously, you're not a good doctor. I know people that have been going to the same doctor for 20 years, especially older people and these patients were all to have supposedly died of a heart attacks. (Gunn, 2010). In 1998 a neighboring General Practitioner reported a high number of cremation forms that she was asked to cosign on. The police did not take her seriously. Maybe a simple question of why could have led them in the right path. Early in his career a judge reinstated him into practice after he fought some mental health problems on the condition that he would continue to seek help and care for his condition. This was never followed up on, if it had been they might have figured out he still had a problem. Lastly, in the hospitals, doctor's offices, and pharmacies I've been to there is a record of drugs being uses and who is prescribing them. They also record how much is given and are routinely audited and checked to make sure that records are up to date. If just one of the previously stated incidences would have been looked into this evidence could have been found and many lives could have been saved. Or just one comparison to the cause of death and a look at medical records could have led to a break in this case. The medical records or lack thereof would have been enough to convict Dr. Shipman or at least get him suspended or fined. There are some explanations that could have been given for some of these but the amount of deaths and incorrectly filled out medical records would have been enough reason for
