The role of women and their political, economic, and social opportunities in American society shifted greatly from the pre Revolutionary War era to the early twentieth century. In this century there were many social issues. These issues impacted the majority of women and slaves all through the United States. They impacted not only Slaves but, women as well. Slavery started when Africans were shipped from Africa to America. Slaves were forced to obey their owners. The treatment of these people was awful for the most part.

Seeing that the slaves were so oppressed, women began to realize that it looks all too familiar. From a fight for slaves soon became a fight for women. Women were viewed as “subordinate to males” and were therefore subject to the laws and regulations imposed upon them by men. They were expected to marry, raise families, and perform the duties of diligent wives and mothers. Because of the male dominated organization of society, women frequently did not have legal rights, such as the ability to vote or own property. At the end of the week when the pays go out it automatically was deemed for the working man. The husbands could spend that money however they wanted to.since the jobs were often stressful, most of the pays went into alcohol, leaving the wives and children at home with
