The Industrial Revolution was a movement that spanned from 1750 to 1830 it changed the lifestyle of everyone in Great Britain for better and worse. Factories popped up all over towns bringing with it pollution and jobs for all. Populations skyrocketed in small towns turning them to crowded cities. More people took jobs from factories, earning more money, and finally being able to make a living. However, with more people moving to factories, more people left the farm life. In my opinion, the Industrial Revolution was both good for us as well as bad. It helped us move forward in machinery, but the conditions and ways of life were horrible. The Industrial Revolution had just as many positive effects as it had negatives. With the factories, there were more jobs open that were willing to pay better that the farming lifestyle did. More and more people moved to cities from far away for jobs in the factories. People could finally make a living and …show more content…
The Industrial Revolution was a dark time for everyone who lived through it. Children nor adults of the lower classes had an education. If you were part of the upper class you were slightly better educated that the middle and lower class. Women were mainly hired in the textile factories, but there is no appeal to the job. Women were hunched over all day which led to back problems. They working from daybreak to sunset in rooms with no ventilation, poor lighting, with dangerous equipment for only 5 shillings a week. Women with long hair risked having it get caught in the machinery, only adding to how dangerous the jobs could be. Child labor was another huge problem. Children were hired and paid even less than the women and their working conditions were just as bad. Some were beaten if they did the job too slow for the employers liking or if they arrived late to work. Families hardly saw each other due to the long strenuous hours
As Stephen Gardiner once said, “The industrial revolution was another one of those extraordinary jumps forward in the story of civilization.” The Industrial Revolution was in fact an extraordinary jump in the development of the U.S. It created a foundation for what the U.S is today socially, economically, and politically. The Industrial Revolution played a major role in the industrialization and modernization and still has effects to this day. These effects lead to more trade, better transportation, and modernization. It also had had many negative effects on America and England as well. These effects mainly focus on the social side of the Industrial Revolution. These effects include child labor, unfair wage, poor living conditions and poverty. When both the positive and negative effects are put together as a whole, the positive effects outweigh the negative. Mainly because they had a bigger effect on America and the world as a whole, and still affect us today. Because of the Industrial Revolution wages are more fair, living conditions are better, Manufacturing has drastically improved and children are no longer allowed to work in factories.
The industrial revolution was an important step for England and the other countries in Europe in the 19th century. It has been debated that the industrial revolution had either a positive or a negative effect on the general public in England, but that depends the on the type of people you ask.
The industrial revolution was not only technological revolution but a social one that would lie foundation that would grow the word “revolution” exponentially. The industrial revolution brought with it change, whether that change was positive or negative is questionable however it did change the world as it was known. In both England and the United States of America strong industrial revolutions struck, the revolutions would change roles in the household and society for both women and me and the ideologies held about gender roles. In both countries effected by the revolution, industrialization challenged religion and authority, the impact of which can still be seen today.
One negative effect of the Industrial Revolution was the poor working conditions in factories which were a big problem during the Industrial Revolution. Many people worked in factories, which had very tight spaces and poor lighting. Many
The Industrial Revolution was a positive time in history. Throughout this time period because or three main reasons innovation; they invented many things we use today and things that changed how we lived. Second, the growth in population this incorporated for families to make more money and companies to rise up. Finally, the revolution made the standard of life so much better. People were able to travel and live in comfort
During the 18th century, the Industrial Revolution changed how goods are produced and also changed the lives of the working class. Britain and France began to modernize and factories and towns began to become more urban. The industrial revolution had both positive and negative effects on our history. The Industrial Revolution had many positive impacts on Britain and France during its time.
The Industrial Revolution, as described by Stephen Gardiner, was “another of those extraordinary jumps forward in the story of civilization.” During this time period, some might argue that Industrialization had primarily negative consequences for society. Industrialization involved the use of child labor, negatively affected the environment, and had harsh working conditions in factories. However, I will counter that it actually had a greater positive effect for society. As a result of Industrialization, the United States rose to become the world’s largest economic power and people were able to enjoy new amenities that weren’t previously available.
The Industrial Revolution began in England during the late 1700s. It came with a wide range of both positive and negative effects for the economy and the people. Looking back from today, the Industrial Revolution was definitely a positive thing, as people now have a high standard of living with lots of conveniences. One must also acknowledge the people living during the Industrial Revolution and how they viewed the Industrial Revolution as a bad thing that came with many negative effects. While some might argue that Industrialization had primarily negative consequences for society because of the terrible living conditions and hazardous working conditions, it was actually a positive thing for society. Industrialization’s positive effects
The Industrial Revolution was marked as the biggest shift from an agrarian, handcrafted economy, to an economy dominated by machines. The Industrial Revolution began during the 1700s in Great Britain when King George III was in power. The Industrial Revolution had many positive effects such as the invention of the railroad. It also had many negative effects like how many got sick and died because of the working conditions. Out of all the positive and the negative effects the lasting effects were major. One of the most major lasting effects was the environmental laws that were put in place to stop all of the pollution and trash in the sewage.
The Industrial Revolution that took place throughout the 18th and the 19th centuries had major effects which influenced every aspect of society and life such as, urbanization, imperialism and nationalism. The industrial revolution had an unfathomable effect on shaping the modern world to what it is today. Before the revolution, society revolved around farming and agriculture. There were only two social classes, the nobility and the working class. Little did they know, that their lives were about to change dramatically and continue changing for the next generations to come.
The Industrial Revolution changed the world forever. From the Industrial period, we had some good outcomes. The Revolution helped by making things faster and not as much hand made items. This led up to the invention of a machine and that helped us advance in technology. There were new advancements in medicine. It increased the wealth and power in Europe and the United States. While
A boost in economic benefits wasn’t the only effect of the industrial revolution, it also brought about social changes. Before factories and machines, women weren’t viewed as being able to do the same job as men. They were seen as housewives and this assumption remained the same until the rise of factories and industry. For the first time, women were able to work in the same factories as men. However, women were paid less than men because society at that time still viewed them as inferior to men. Although you could still see this policy in some societies today, women are now able to work in the same positions as men because of the circumstances that were brought by the rise of industrialization and factories. Also, thanks to mass production in factories, the rule of supply and demand allowed people to afford new things as stated before. Such an effect is shown in Document 7 in an excerpt from The Working Man’s Companion published in 1831. It states how people are surrounded with an infinite number of comforts and
There were a lot of great things that happened in the Industrial Revolution, and a lot of bad things too. Tons of immigrants came over from Europe and Asia for labor jobs. The production of steel, sewing machines, the telephone, and the light bulb were made during this time. People had to make these supplies fast because there was a demand for it all. Children, younger than 10 started to work for more than 12 hours a day and got paid less than their parents. They worked in unsafe conditions, also may have lose limbs, and their life. This was the beginning of the Industrial Age.
The Industrial Revolution had many negative affects on people. Many people worked from home before the Revolution. Raw materials were delivered to people's cottages and the weavers would process the wool in their homes. This was an advantage for the workers because they would make their own schedules and work at their own pace; however, for these same reasons, they were disadvantages for business owners. The Industrial Revolution made it possible to move the jobs from cottages to factories where they business owners can oversee the workers and account for their time. Some people considered the factory jobs a blessing while others considered it a hardship. The work day was long, conditions were unsanitary and food was sparse.
The Industrial Revolution had many positive and negative impacts on society. The positive include cheaper clothes, more job opportunities, and improvement in transportation. And the negative would include exploitation of women and children, workers work long hours and environmental damages. These are just a few that I believe had an impact on the Industrial Revolution.
