To our southern border lays a land of rich culture, values, history, and beautiful scenery. Despite small truth behind the common stereotype of Mexico as a sluggish land of subsistence laborers, Mexican society is much more than that. Mexico can be depicted by the stark contrast of wealth and poverty in the country, with a small middle class stuck between the elite landowners and investors, and the multitude of urban and rural poor. Nevertheless the daily challenges faced by the developing third-world country, Mexico is still a force to be reckoned with. Mexico is one of the head political and economic forces in all Latin America.

Mexico’s population is rising swiftly with a prediction of 135 million by the year 2051. Mexico’s agricultural output does not meet the needs of a growing populace. A majority of these families can't grow enough to feed their own families. Mexico maintains close to a steady 25% unemployment rate. But those who do work, work for very low earnings , and some families survive on money that their immigrant families send them.

Women are stuck in their gender roles and believe that they do not have the power to promote equality for the better of themselves or their children’s future. Women are following gender roles leaving school at young ages and believe that they indeed need to depend on men, and by doing so it limits their ability to fully have an education and understand what they need to read healthy productive lives. Gender Discrimination Education is key in promoting gender equality and because the women lack appropriate representation they are stuck in a circle of hunger and lack of resources. Women in Mexico need education to help them understand what their bodies need and not just as they are developing into mature women, but also as they carry on their children and for them to pass on to their children what food is needed to have a healthy

The percent of people in poverty in the Mexican culture is 27.5% versus Non-Hispanic white at 13% (Marger 2015, p. 224) which is over a 50% increase of people in poverty who are not “white” giving the “White” Americans a lower poverty rate than a “Mexican” American.

People all over the world long for new adventures. One way that people seek to find adventure is by traveling to other countries. One country that all tourists should visit is Mexico because of its food, art, and animals.

The poverty and inequality that has plagued El Salvador since the early twentieth century stems from their rule by the Oligarchy, which dates back to colonial times. The Oligarchy's lack of consistency in implementing and following through with reforms has prevented progress from occurring in the country. Furthermore, the many wars and political revolts in El Salvador impeded its economic and social growth. The main focus of the Oligarchy was to turn a profit. And because they essentially ran the economy, they assumed that their actions were best for both their profits and the country's economy as a whole. Mexico is known for its beautiful and traditional culture, delicious food, and tourist locations. Its agricultural industry also plays a very important role for this country. It is among the world’s leading agrifoods producer, ranked number 10 in world merchandise trade and considered Latin America’s second largest economy after Brazil (Mexico/Economy/Agriculture, n.d.).

The second major factor that will be discussed will be Economic. The first major economical issue to be discussed will be taxes. Taxes will have a big impact with everything since we will have to know how much it will be costing us to actually be able to ship any type of product that will be needed in the factory. If we were to export any type of product from The United States would just be 48.3 percent from the 4.25 billion that would be paid to get exports.If El Salvador decided to do import with other countries then it would be 9.503 billion yet if it was with our partner who is The United States then the total would be 37.9 billion to do any type of imports. Mexico has a poverty rate that’s reported to be around 46.2% between 2012 and 2014 translating into an increase of .07%. During this time, the Mexican Government reported that two million Mexicans slipped into poverty. The poverty level has risen slightly due to access to education, health, clean water and income as the basis of the problem.

Poverty, or the inability to afford basic human needs, is an issue that is spread worldwide. There are people everywhere who cannot afford shelter, food, healthcare, or education. It seems easy enough to ignore the bum asking for change on the street, but it becomes near impossible in regions where whole families are begging on the street. This rings true in Latin America and it is extremely frustrating to see social inequality this extreme. This essay will examine how much poverty exists in Latin America, why the amount of poverty is so disproportionate and what can possibly be done to alleviate the amount of poverty in these countries.

Poverty is an issue that is faced by multitudes of people around the world. Poverty itself is defined as, “the state of being poor” (Merriam Webster). According to Sara S. McLanahan, of Princeton University, “In the United States, poverty is defined as not having enough income to pay for basic needs, such as food, clothing and shelter. Poverty is a family attribute. In other words, if a family is classified as poor, all the members of that family are also poor” (McLanahan, n.d.). The U.S. Census Bureau, in 2013 shows, “there were 45.3 million people in poverty” just in the United States (U.S Census Bureau, 2013). From those living in poverty, in the same year, “the ratio of the female poverty rate to the male poverty rate was 1.2---women were 20 percent more likely to be poor than men” (Mykyta, 2013, p. 2). Also, “of all people categorized as in poverty in 2011, approximately 56 percent were women” (Mykyta, 2013, p. 2). Sakiko Fukuda-Parr, director of the Human Development Report, portrays a simple truth, “women are poorer than men” (Fukuda-Parr, 1999, p. 99).
