College. School. A Good Education. We all probably take all of these things for granted. But there are some people in this country who don’t have these. You may not witness it, but students everywhere are qualifying for financial aid and help. And their parents more likely than not had the same childhood. These kids don’t see any way out of the cycle of poverty, they only know the way of getting financial aid and using government welfare. So then why are we so concerned with aiding children in other countries when we have many children in our own country that need our aid.

President Johnson is well known for making major policy reform in order to combat poverty. Welfare, a social program designed to combat poverty, has been a controversial issue for many years and has been reformed under the Clinton and Bush administrations. In 1996 President Bill Clinton brought welfare reform to congress with help from the Republican Party. Newt Gingrich and Bob Dole led the reform action. President Clinton vetoed the first two bills presented, but later proposed a third version that was enacted. Food stamps, child care, and Medicaid were all revamped. Food stamps were issued and controlled at the state level. Within the bill childcare was strengthen for the poor and Medicaid was maintained. There were strict

Even though the United States is said to be one of the richest country, family’s still seem to live in poverty. There are some many issues that leads back to poverty, such as people not being able to provide food, shelter and higher education for themselves their children. It has also resulted in children having to live with their parents longer than expected just to make it by. Where I live they have been cutting back on the benefits of disability programs and government funding programs. The individuals who really needed the assistant have been cut off and may end up struggling even more than before.

Poverty has been an ongoing issue since the birth of this Nation. When one thinks of poverty the last people we think of are the ones closest to home. As children some are told “finish your dinner, there are starving kids in Africa”, but what about the starving children whom are in neighborhoods close to us? Tough topics such as death of a loved one, breaking up with a significant other, and abortion are always tough things to talk about with another person. For example, in crowded, cramped places like a coffee shop or cramped restaurant bustling with people, when these conversations arise one will try to hide it from other meddlesome people listening in on their conversation while trying to figure out what the people in the predicament are talking about. In the story, “Hills like White Elephants” by Ernest Hemmingway, the American and the girl use this same tactic while in the cramped bar patio in the train station in Spain. The difficult situation the couple is facing is concealed within Ernest Hemingway’s “Hills like White Elephants.” This can be seen by examining the problem latent within the story, the use vague pronouns, and what consequences that the author has using the short, hasty dialogue pattern, more specifically how these effects are still used in today’s American society.

Statistics indicates a rise in poverty levels in most countries all over the world. In America, more than 15% of the population lives in poverty and deplorable living conditions. Poverty and homelessness are particularly high amongst children living in the United States. Poverty is considered as the inability to meet one’s basic needs due to lack of money. It is state of deprivation in which a person lacks and is unable to acquire the normal monetary sum or property and other possessions. In the United States, the poverty threshold is used by the government to measure the level of poverty in the country. The government implements different policies and programs to eradicate poverty depending on the level of poverty. The policies and programs are meant to improve the welfare of the poor in the society and enable them to improve their social status. This paper will entail research on poverty and the policies and programs implemented to eradicate poverty in the United States.

Nowadays the poverty level in the US rises to record numbers since the middle of the last century. The US has the highest rates of poverty by a big variety of reasons: the weakening of the economy, the financial crisis and the weak support of problem groups of the population by the state. For years now there have been two kinds of people which are the rich and the poor. The poor people and been fighting to find ways to better themselves as well as their families. Some have struggled, but the system has been changing to better aid them. The programs where meant to help, but some where not good and did not help the poor people. Overtime issues with the percentage of citizens in poverty has risen. Several organizations have been set up to help those who suffer from poverty and provide their everyday needs. There are always ways where a community can help eliminate the amount of people suffering poverty. Government has an influence on how much money flow there is in the United States such as the FED, which was created to help maintain a stable monetary and financial system and control the money supply. People themselves can also help from falling into poverty, but there are many other issues that cause poverty. Poverty is often caused by discrimination, being uneducated, and how wisely money is spent.
