My practicum experience will be somewhat different when it comes to becoming familiar with a certain population. The whole concept of practicums is based on gaining understanding and skill building with a population of interest. As well gaining insight with diverse other populations within the Human Service spectrum. I have chosen to do my practicum at least this one through the agency where I am employed with. This can be slightly awkward from the perspective of becoming an employee and a student as well. Playing this dual role is as I said somewhat awkward but also intriguing for it allows me to examine my functioning from a student in Human Service perspective and not just a professional worker in this field. Although I am familiar
A practicum experience should be a great introduction into Human Services and all that a population can has to offer you. Your post really reflects the opposite of this experience sadly enough. The agency where I am employed and use for practicum has a single program manager and is sometimes very overburdened by the demands of the clients and additive dramas. Even though we have a weekly practicum meeting scheduled there have been times when this simply was possible because of incidents and clients demand her attention right away. This does take priority. Maybe you can project not so much on the agency but what you can take away from your clients when you are at the site.
For my last class I went to a Montessori school for my practicum field experience, and as you mentioned with the homeschooling, they also use the method that allows the students to learn at their own pace, the students are not rushed into going to the next level just because they have spent too much time in one level. I had never heard of this concept until I went there, when I went to the interview and met the principal she told me "This is a non-traditional school, are you ok with it"? that's when I asked and she began to explain and of course I also looked it up online and learned more, but whatever I knew prior to being in the classroom could not prepare me for what I saw in the classroom of about ten students and all of them working on
Please explain how your past personal and professional experience make you a quality candidate for the position for which you are applying.
The practicum experience is at Communities at Indiana Haven. It is mainly a long-term home facility. It has three units: rehabilitation unit, Alzheimer unit, and resident long-term home unit. Staff enter each unit using their cards and they have to make sure that each door is closed behind them. For the three units, there are two RNs working during the day-shifts, while only one RN working at the night-shifts. Also during the day there are six LPNs and nine nursing assistants. At night, there are four LPNs and five nursing assistants. Moreover, to be admitted to this community, patients have to meet certain criteria. For example, Indiana Haven does not accept patients who need tracheostomy care or nasogastric tubes because of the decrease number
Prior to the 20th century, informal education was what public health professional relied on, there was no formalize education, nor curricula (Riegelman, & Kirkwood, 2014). Throughout the 21th century, and present, there had been a movement to implement a standardize curriculum for public health professionals that defines what is public health professionals entails (Riegelman, & Kirkwood, 2014). Some of those requirements were prerequisites upon admission, coursework, official recognition, permission to practice, and competency through examinations (Riegelman, & Kirkwood, 2014). In this essay, the author will summarize her practicum experience, theories that were apply throughout her experience, how the practicum has help develop her as a professional, and finally the author will discuss her personal mission, and core values as in regards to her future role as a public health.
I have been fortunate to have had an array of clinical and training experience with diverse populations, and plan to continue to build on my experience during internship. At Alliant International University, diversity clinical training is important and embedded in my curriculum. It is essential to remain sensitive to multicultural issues especially because of the different populations we help. Being part of the minority culture that has experience a lifetime of different shortcomings and oppression, it made me more conscious and sympathetic to others problems. My life experiences and clinical training has helped me to build upon my multicultural competence in my career. One experience stands out. During my senior year in high school while applying
My overall exposure to clinical experience from working as an Aerospace Medical Technician for the U.S Air Force is major a catalyst in influencing my decision to study medicine. If I am obligated to select a single experience, it would have to be the time that I was dispatched to the scene of an Air Force special operation field. The patient was a 19 year old Airmen who has been training to become a U.S Air Force Para-rescue jumper. The rigorous training certainly has taken a toll on his body, for he was diagnosed with Rhabdomyolysis. I was fortunate enough to be one of the medical personnel to first make contact with him and I also had the chance to follow up with him all the way up until he was discharged. As I reflect on how much progress
First of all, I would like to say plan ahead. so, you can manage your time and you do not put yourself in overwhelming situations. I had a Circumstances that force me to stop going to school for a month, and that put me in stress because I try to complete the reminder hours in these upcoming two weeks. The second things, take an advantage of bing with an expert team. the teacher has 21 years experiences in the education field. I observe her during her interaction with children and other adults. I really learn a lot from her. It is a good opportunity for me. She is really helpful. She gave me an advice when I need it, answer my questions,
Compared to common clinical experience my exposure to clinical practice was different. Aside from the shadowing opportunities that I’ve pursued, the bulk of my clinical experience was as a volunteer at New Walk Medical Center in Norfolk, VA. There I volunteered under the direction of general practitioner, Dr. James Newby, and nurse practitioner, Mrs. Newby. Mrs. Newby drafted and published a system where health care professionals could monitoring and control the diabetes of their patients. This system of care was comprised of three portions done in group settings. The first was an informational session that explained what diabetes was to the patients the dynamics of diabetes, how to navigate through food labels, and choose the best foods in
My personal journey in this practicum experience has been an eventful one. Once I started to get comfortable and had things down pact, it is all done with. It began with the curriculum writing project in which we were instructed to plan lessons for students that we did not have any background information on such as, prior knowledge on content or their abilities and it was rather challenging. It felt as if I was never done writing the CWP. The moment I thought that I was done writing the CWP, I had to make further changes. In the end, I learned to appreciate the CWP. Once I was in the classroom and started interacting with the students, I realized that my CWP was not developmentally appropriate for my targeted audience and the process of writing the CWP all started to make
One aspect of time management in my practicum experience that stood out to me is how in home health you set your own schedule and time to meet with patients A lot of home health is based on making time for charting, driving, breaks, and appointments with patients so that it is congruent with an eight hour shift. It can be very challenging to make your schedule feasible for all patients. Also, if patients don’t answer their phone in the morning it makes it very difficult to set appointment times for the day. There were times during my clinical experience where a patient would be called in the morning to set a time for their visit, they wouldn’t answer so a message would be left, and then there would be no call back all day. That means the next
I have gained insight and knowledge into how to effectively collect data about students learning, whether it be using assessment ‘for' or ‘of’ learning to ensure the best outcomes for my students by allowing me to uncover an overall understanding of who my students are and what they know. I was able to collect this data and analyse where I need to adapt my practice to ensure the success of my learners and using it to monitor, plan and deliver experiences that respect student’s needs, growth, progress, misunderstandings and abilities. During my practicum experiences, I have been able to design and implement ‘assessments for learning’ including formative assessments to gain insight into learning during practice such as classroom dialogue and
I believe my education and professional experience, in multicultural and multilingual contexts, have prepared me for this position. I can assure you I have the necessary skills for completing successfully all the tasks.
I would be able to complement my college classroom experience with practical relevant experience by collaborating with experienced attorneys, student defenders, and other interns, striving to accomplish the office’s meaningful mission of providing free legal assistance to full-time students at UMD. This internship with the Student Legal Aid Office would also allow me to fulfill a personal goal by completing a meaningful service obligation during my college career. Finally, this internship experience would allow me to confirm my keen interest in the law, as well as my present intention to apply for law school next
The purpose of the following report is to discuss the events and encounters I experienced on my practicum. I completed my practicum with Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, based out of Lethbridge, AB. I completed five, eight hour shifts, totaling to 40 hours. I had the opportunity to ride-along with two different peace officers. This allowed me to see two different perspectives and ways of thinking with regards to the commercial vehicle job. I completed by practicum on the following dates and times: January 22, (2016) 1400-2200. January 23, 24 (2016) 1000-1800, and February 6, 7 (2016) 0700-1500. For the duration of my practicum we patrolled many different areas and counties. We were not restricted to a small district and had freedom to move about the Lethbridge district as we saw necessary.
