“Do you not know that a man is not dead while his name is still spoken?” Quoted by Terry Pratchett, this principle means in its simplest form, we will remember a deceased individual as long as we honor them. Which is why we must honor our fallen soldiers, for their service puts us in eternal debt. They fought with their lives on the line and everything to lose in order to restore our independence. Hence, it is crucial to honor them through the wreath ceremony to remind Americans of their sacrifices, to dignify the unknown soldiers who were lost at our country’s gain, and to remember those we love.
Recognizing the sacrifices of our men is infinitely important. Over years and years of seemingly-endless battles, so much American blood has been shed. Lives have been lost for vast reasons: freedom, liberty, and independence. Without the ultimate sacrifice of our soldiers, we wouldn’t even have a country in the first place. Sacrifices like these are valuable and must be remembered forever.
The soldiers themselves need to be acknowledged as well. Every soldier was once just a citizen, not yet dressed in uniforms of red, white, and blue, beaming with the sunlight of trodden battlefields. These citizens were parts of families, loved greatly and deeply. Their departure from home was

Lesson after lesson, historians taught us names and dates we’d never remember. They told how our lives forever changed by the sacrifices, as if we knew them. On the other hand, what about those we do know and love? Personally, my Uncle Kevin was involved in the military. Though he is not with me anymore, my family cherishes his life every single day by keeping pictures of him and telling his stories keeps his name alive. The importance of showing reverence and honor the warriors we knew, whether close in our family or the neighbor across the street, is great. Paying respect to them brings their memories beyond the
Honoring those that have served our country has been a long-standing tradition in one of the countries with the best militaries in the world. We even have an annual holiday celebrating those who have served where an entire day is dedicated to veterans in our country. But the question is often asked as to why we honor these veterans with their own day, and why they are treated with the utmost respect year round. I believe the answer varies from person to person, but the answer is clear to me.
Our nation past was, well, not always perfect. Without some of our veterans, our country wouldn’t be as free as it is. Veterans continue to make our country a free country, which also makes it a better place to live in. Veterans stood up for our country; whether the ones forced to go during the draft, or the ones who voluntarily go. Whether the cause, they were always ready to go and fight for the people’s freedom. We really do see how great these people are, I mean, they risked their life for ours to be
Saying “The Pledge of Allegiance” and singing “The Star Spangled Banner” makes me feel so proud to live here. Listening to veterans tell stories about wars is so interesting. You wonder how they survived and how some are still willing to go out and fight. When you see a veteran, you realize that this is your home. These veterans have given me a life most people would love to have. These veterans stood up for what they believed in. I will never meet all of them, but I will never be able to express how thankful I am. These veterans are people we pass every day, they don’t expect a thank you. We lose about 1,000 World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam veterans everyday. They should be thanked a lot
One often misinterprets the true meaning of war, believing it is only a dispute that is ended through fighting. In fact, war is more than just fighting. It is a battle where many brave souls lose their lives for protecting the country they love. Many of the rights we have today would not have been possible without the sacrifice of many brave American soldiers. Instead of living in a tranquil and prosperous nation, we could be living in a nation that resembles countries such as Africa, living under poor conditions and extreme poverty. It is imperative to take into consideration that the veterans we have today have made an impact on our nation and we owe much of our respect to them. Not many people have the courage to take on the heavy and overwhelming duty of going to war, knowing that death is imminent. Along with that, many of them have experienced traumatizing moments that have scarred them for life. Because of this, there is much appreciation and respect inclined towards
The men and women who helped shape the face of this country through their honor, legacy, and patriotism are those we call veterans. They are our dads, moms, uncles, aunts, brothers, sisters; they are our family. Yet, we constantly overlook their desire and passion for this country. The gratitude that they deserve is not shown towards them, as it should be. I thank all veterans for their
It is important to remember how much of daily life is affected by the work of veterans. Walking on streets, going to school, eating at restaurants, and hanging out with friends all depend on the service of veterans. They may not receive the proper amount of recognition from the younger generations, but their work is appreciated. In actuality, they gained vital information that can be shared with the future generations. They have gained respect and honor for their duty for our
Generation-after-generation, families unite to honor their loved ones. Regardless if those honored are alive or bereft, commander or commanded, we praise their service. There is a vast array of traditions to honor them.
As a nation, we honor our soldiers as they risk their lives for our freedoms. A quote from John 15:13 perfectly represents what sacrifice the soldiers really make, “Greater love has no one then this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends”(John 15:13). This shows that soldiers will die for their friends because they believe that it is their way to serve their nation. This quote represents what Arlington National Cemetery is about acres and acres of tombs to honor are soldiers.
From the words of Jeff Miller “The willingness of America's Veterans to Sacrifice for our country has earned them our lasting gratitude.” The Sacrifices that you made for our country is not nameless. You Sacrificed your lives for our freedom on this earth. Our freedom occurred from your Sacrifice. All the men dead fought for this nation. Fought for freedom and the foundation of our country, and most couldn't enjoy it. The freedom of speech, religion, and our rights. Evan for the one who don't believe, god was watching and still is watching you as you rest, and watched you as you fought, still watches all fighting in war today and will forever.
Marquis de Lafayette once said, “People serve, but the men who die leave a shiny wake on the water of time.” This means even though the veterans died we will always remember them for the choice that they made to save are country. The people who died for our freedom, made a choice to serve even though they knew they could possibly die for our freedom. The veterans that are serving now, or the veterans that had served will be remembered for what they did so we would have freedom.
A thank you is owed to the Sons of Liberty for the sacrifices they gave for the sake of the American citizens and their daily freedoms. They gave up their liberty to walk down the street without having to constantly look over their shoulder to make sure there were no British soldiers in sight. Rather than just staying in the shadows, they all showed their faces. To prove that they would not buckle under pressure, they wrote a list of every member’s name. Like most everyday hero, these members never backed away from a battle.
We were lucky as a country to have many men and women volunteer their time and lives to fight for our country. We thanked and repaid them in many ways. The soldiers that fought and sacrificed many things for us have not been forgotten.
Some may minimalize these men’s death because they did not die in the glory of battle, but history shows that men are remembered by what they lived for than what they died by. Should these men not be remembered and honored amongst other soldiers killed in battle, after everything they have sacrificed? We, during our long day, will take a few pauses to remember the values and work of the past heroes these men have exemplified. Many may remember the question and comment of
The struggle and lives that were lost became memories that remain imprinted on those who still live to this day. For both countries, those who fought are honored conspicuously. Americans remember the veterans who died and celebrate the ones that lived. Soldiers are honored by being recognized at ceremonies or having an American flag placed at their gravestone. The veterans
However, during this time of happiness there are some things to tear up about. During the war both sides lost a total of about two and half million soldiers. Also, over four million people were displaced. So now that the war has come to an end it is only fair that a tribute is held in honor of their bravery and courage. It is
