Imagine losing billions of dollars in seconds. That’s what happened to the people of New York on the day of the terrorist attack. Upsetting many people which lead to many changes. 9/11 set an example for us, and how to prevent this in the future from happening to our next generation. Undoubtedly, American history is our future for tomorrow, so we have made changes. For example, after this notorious attack, the TSA has been way more strict about what they search for and let go through. As Bruce Schneier (security technologist) said, “Our current response to terrorism is a form of 'magical thinking. It relies on the idea that we can somehow make ourselves safer by protecting against what the terrorists happened to do last time." This
On the morning of September 11, 2001, two planes hijacked by al-Qaeda terrorists crashed into the symbol of military and capitalism; the World Trade Center (History.com). This attack killed approximately 3,000 people (History.com). One other plane crashed into the Pentagon and 125 people lost their lives in that attack (History.com). That day, referred to as 9/11, left a stain in the hearts and minds of many Americans. These attacks brought out the hero in a great deal of people, but many heroes died on that day, and those heroes will never be forgotten. Because of this tragic event, millions of American citizens were injured or have had to endure the lasting effects of post-traumatic stress disorder (History.com). This awful event is our hope for the future because it taught us we need to combat terrorism better and we are still fighting this battle today (History.com).
The horrific events that took place on September 11th caused thousands of casualties. As a result of the terrorist attacks that took place, nearly three thousand people died and over six thousand people were injured in the attack. A total of nineteen terrorists took thousands of lives away from families across the nation. Over four hundred firefighters and officers in New York City lost their life that day trying to get as many people whom they didn't even know to safety. September 11th will forever be remembered as the day where everyone in the nation united as
On September 11, 2001 Flight Two planes were flown into the towers of the World Trade Center in New York City. The planes where hijacked by 19 Al Qaeda terrorists that brought along their weapons , to many Americans the mention of 9/11 can be horrifying with the memories that they might have experienced that day with the site of the twin towers being brought down. Because of the hijacked planes, it destroyed many lives as well as the families that lost someone in that tragedy. The United States has changed since September 11th, 2001 because after new changes in airport security was made, deportation rose, and immigration decreased.
Our nation is built around the drastic events that we have had to endure. These events shape our laws and sometimes force us to reexamine our constitution. When the laws are made with the stem of fear the laws can become destructive. We often see this when traumatic events unfold in our nation. 9/11 is one of those events. Not only did the historically traumatic event of 9/11 shape our nation, it shaped all of the world. The Twin Towers were the major buildings of the entire complex that made the World Trade Center. The Twin Towers themselves were the tallest buildings in New York City. They each had 110 stories. Together they provided the room needed to accommodate about 35,000 people for 430 companies. In addition to this, they attracted people from all around the world. A rough estimate would say they attracted roughly 70,000 New Yorker’s and tourists daily. (1)
No one expected the attack on 9/11, so when it hit, the United States was utterly unprepared. The World Trade Center buildings were hit by hijacked American planes. Both towers with hundreds of people collapsed, killing many American citizens. 9/11 was a tragic day in history. It is a day Americans have never forgotten.
Flying out or in of the country or even within has become more challenging since the 9/11 attacks. It takes more time to get through security which makes for a much earlier arrival time for those flying. Most airlines require an arrival two hours prior to their departure time. Many Americans have stopped flying altogether because of the hassle of airport security and out of fear. Before the attacks, airport security was more relaxed. Basic security measures were in place, but it was much different than today. Before the attacks, security screenings were set in place by the private companies, many which were outsourced to different security companies. Passengers were allowed to bring certain size blades, scissors, baseball bats and even sewing needles. All of these items have since been banned as a result of the attacks. Since the attacks, the Transportation Security Administration was created and the security screenings are now regulated by the federal government. Through TSA, passengers bags are checked for banned items, they screened for suspicious behavior, the explosive detection system was implemented, and the full body scanner is now used to check passengers. According to Rick Seaney, “Our security ought to stop anything these days, stringent as it is: We've gone from the metal detectors of the 1970s to post-9/11 body scans and enhanced pat downs. Cockpit doors are now fortified, and the sky
However, people can choose to live in fear of that day and the prospects of something like that happening again, or they can take a step back and look at the good that came out of the event. Many people, when remembering the attacks of 9/11, look back on how they felt as the news poured through their radios and hitting their ears. But many disregard what happened later on that day and into the week to come. There were people standing around neighborhoods, in stores, and in parks consoling complete strangers. There were random people in grocery stores coming up and asking if you were okay or how you were feeling. People were definitely affected by the events but many chose to look at it as a way to help others and bring our nation closer together (almost as close as it has ever been). That day in September 11th, 2001 the United States of America chose to come together and live in love and not in
Today is September 11th, 2014. The thirteenth anniversary for one of the most horrific events that have ever happened in United States history. An event that took thousands of lives, and affected the entire United States in some kind of way. Thirteen years ago, not only the United States changed, but the World changed. The global repercussions of 9/11 are still being felt today. The attacks of the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. can be described as horrific, shocking, confusing and depressing. Tens of thousands of people witnessed it in person, and millions witnessed it through TV, read it in their newspapers, all who were seeking the reasoning behind this. So what happened? At 8:52 AM, a plane that
On September 11, 2001 terrorists crashed into the the Twin Towers killing, thousands of people. Each year people reflect back on that day and constantly worry about another attack; people are always intrigued by the stories and documentaries that people hear about on T.V. Trust is firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone(dictionary.com). All people can do is to trust in the government to make good decisions to make the U.S safe and secure. The 9/11 attack changed people forever, people lost family members and jobs. “If we learn nothing else from this tragedy, we learn that life is short and there is no time for hate(heavy.com).” 9/11 had a major impact on U.S. society because it engaged the U.S. society
On Sept. 11, 2001, U.S. security systems failed to stop the attack on the Twin Towers known as 9/11. After this attack the National Security Agency’s powers increased dramatically from surveillance limited to foreign countries, to all over the world after the attack on 9/11. They couldn't afford to let the security seem lenient. Because if terrorists see any kind of weakness in a system, they will attack it.
On September 11, 2001 there was tragic moment when terrorists hijacked four civilian airplanes in New York and crashed them into the World Trade Center. 9/11 is a important date to the United States because it was a successful plan for the terrorist who wanted to try and crush the U.S government/ Economy .Al Qaeda was the main organization who was behind the idea to hijack American airlines. After 9/11 changes occurred, stricter laws were being passed by congress, the government became very protective and wanted threats to be eliminated, and racial profiling of Muslims rose throughout the country. This tragic event made America a new country. On September 11 in the morning, two planes were hijacked and were flown into the towers of
On September eleventh, 2001, the most prolific terrorist attack of modern history took place on American soil. The discussion about 9/11 consistently revolves around its direct impact on American lives and the military response from the United States. The destruction from the attacks consumes the majority of information taught to students and citizens across American; however, the effects of 9/11 go much further. Economies across the world felt the impact following the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centers, an impact that can still be felt today. If the Twin Towers still stood today, we would be living with a completely different economy.
The 9/11 attacks were the worst acts of terrorism on American soil to date. That were designed in order to instill panic and fear on the American psyche. Their were plenty of cases of post traumatic stress symptoms (PTSD) that include, the feeling that the event is happening again. A Lot of people in the United states did not feel safe at home anymore because of how easily the terrorist organization attacked the twin towers and the world trade center in the 9/11 attacks. The attack on the world trade center on September 11, 2001, changed New York City forever. The twin towers, which had become one of the symbols of the city and were a workplace for more than 30,000 people, were destroyed. As one journalist put it the city was like a twilight zone, or a ghost town days after the incident. Some of the new thing that changed since the attacks of 9/11 were that our surveillance state was a fraction of its current size and not to mention the amount of more security at airports has raised exponentially since the attacks. America’s involvement in the war on terror , promoted by the 9/11 terrorist attacks resulted in a dramatic change in our nation’s attitudes and concerns about safety, vigilance, and privacy. Unlike the social effect of 9/11 the death of Osama Bin Laden was the opposite, people were rejoiced rather than suffering
September 11, 2001 was a tragic event which killed hundreds of people. But if they had taken measures sooner and worked quicker, those lives could have been saved, those deaths could have been prevented. People lost their lives because they did not take note of things that had happened earlier and that had been warnings. If they had done something sooner, imagine the families now, the families that lost their mothers or fathers either trying to save people or just by going to work. The fathers and mothers who tried to contact their son or daughter, but would never hear from them again. The friends who waited up all night to see if he or she was coming home that night, or if they were even alive anymore. These people should have come home that night; they should have been seen again. Yet, some never left the building as one whole person. These people's lives were changed forever because they did not take action when they should have. These deaths could have been prevented. They were warned of what was going to come in the future since 1993. September 11 could have been prevented by having better-trained pilots and flight attendants, having better airport security, and by recognizing a fatal situation earlier
This day impacted our nation and communities. 9/11 made us aware that anything bad could happen like this again, so we became a more secure nation. Especially at airports, we have scanners, police dogs, and extra security to check every passenger before boarding a plane.
