Nate was born in Norfolk, Virginia, to his mother Carolyn Whitfield. Even though his mother never married Nate’s real father, Nate still had a relationship with him. Nate has problems with his stepfather which led him to move to Virginia Beach to live with his uncle. Jay Combs, his uncle who was a former wrestler, inspired him to join wrestling in high school. He attended Princess Anne High School, followed by Churchland High School, Great Bridge High School when finally getting into Penn State University, with the scholarship. During his years of service Johnson worked for a man named Bennet who lived in Virginia. Anthony worked as an indentured servant on his tobacco farm. Around 1635, Johnson was freed from his indenture and married the only female slave on his plantation, her name was Mary. They soon began their life together on a successful farm and had several children. Soon Johnson purchased indentured slaves of his own in order to form a successful farm. Jeff Corwin is a wildlife conservationist from Norwell, Massachusetts in 1967. He is currently 48 years old and he is still living. Carter G. Woodson is known as the father of Black History. He is also the second African American to ever earn his Ph.D. On February 7th, 1926 Woodson organized Negro History Week which led to the recognition of African American achievements over the entire month of February every year which is known as Black History Month. Woodson believed that African Americans may have lacked the motivation to learn because they weren’t learning about their own heritage and culture. He worked towards equality and to make African Americans thought of as more than just a race. Without Woodson’s accomplishments the achievements of the African American race may still be ignored and overlooked today.
James Weldon Johnson (1871-1938), was a highly talented and celebrated African American writer. He was a poet, songwriter, novelist, literary critic, and essayist. Along with his wide-ranging literary accomplishments, Johnson also served as a school principal, professor of literature at Fisk University, attorney, a diplomatic consul for the United States in Venezuelaand Nicaragua, and secretary for the NAACP from 1920-1930. He is considered one of the founders of the Harlem Renaissance and the first "modern" African American.

In The Education of a Prophet: Jonah John Piper discusses the idea of Christians that have strong racist views. He starts his sermon by talking about his hometown church and its racist members, then he compares these people to members of the Ku Klux Klan, and last of all he discussed the nationalistic views Jonah had. Piper had found the idea of Christians harboring racist views troubling and made several arguments on why Christians cannot be racist. According to John Piper, church members of his mother’s church are racists because they voted against blacks from attending their congregation; however the members are Christians and yet they harbor such racist views.

Saving Private Ryan is a movie that generates strong responses from most people that see it. While interviewing four individuals and reading three movie reviews, I found that each of my subjects would recommend it, not one of the individuals interviewed felt the violence was senseless, and all of them left the movie with a strong emotional response of some kind. It appears that Saving Private Ryan is the kind of movie to which many can relate.
