The First Amendments is a blessing that the United States is fortunate enough to have. First and foremost, First Amendment protects the right to freedom of religion and expression, without any government interference ("First Amendment" n.p.). The freedom of expression includes the right to free speech, press, assembly, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances ("First Amendment" n.p.). Redress of grievances guarantees people the right to ask the government to provide relief for a wrong through courts or other governmental action ("First Amendment" n.p.). People are allowed to practice their own religions and do not have to conform to one religion, all because of the First Amendment. People's rights are protected with no government interference.

The First Amendment states: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…”. This Amendment was created to protect the first United States citizens, who were escaping religious persecution and sought the right to freedom of religion and expression without government interference. The United States government is the first in world history to deliberately allow religious freedom. The Amendment allows prohibits the government from creating an official religion of the country. “The establishment clause prohibits the government from passing legislation to establish an official religion or preferring one religion over another,” (First Amendment). The Amendment also forces the separation of the church and the state. This ensures that choices will not be made with religion in mind. The freedom of religion also improves immigration throughout the country. Some countries prohibit certain religions and improved immigration. The First Amendment ensures citizens a measure of freedom of expression, especially in the area of religion. The Establishment Clause, prohibits the government from creating a national religion.

The very first amendment, added to the Constitution in 1791, contains guarantees of freedom of religion. According to Michael Kessler, “faith is the free movement of will”, which ties into the freedom of expression. You can willingly express your faith in the United States without the prosecution of the government. All of the Founders did believe that freedom of religion was important. Establishment clause and the free exercise clause give different opportunities of those who believe or practice a specific religion. Also, there are reasons for and not placing limitations on the exercise of one’s beliefs.

Freedom of religion is protected in the constitution and amendments because it’s an important right for all people to have. In the United States, freedom of religion is a constitutionally protected right provided in the religion clauses of the First Amendment, “Freedom of speech, press, assembly, and religion” which allows you to practice any religion as long as it doesn't infringe on other people's rights. The first amendment consists of two provisions: the establishment clause and the free exercise clause. The establishment clause was set forth to prevent government from “establishing” a religion. For example, if a government were to publically fund a church this would be considered an attempt of the government to establish a religion. The free exercise clause was enacted to endow every individual the right to practice their religion freely so long as it does not interfere with “public morals”. Thus, the establishment clause is directed more towards the government’s actions whereas the free exercise clause is directed at citizens and limits the “free” aspect of an individual’s right to practice their religion if needed be.

The first amendment deals with religion among other topics. The general meaning behind the amendment is that the government cannot interfere with religious matters; the government and religious views must be kept separate. This is an idea that rings true today and people feel comfortable with the fact that they will not be judged on their religious practices in a court of law or other political matter.

The First Amendment does protect freedom of religion (Hall, 2014). Our federal government cannot pass a law that would prevent anyone from a religious belief and the free exercise of such religion (Hall, 2014). However, the highest court in the land has ruled that some religious practices are subject to criminal laws (Hall, 2014). Basically, if the government’s interest in controlling a religious behavior outweighs the First Amendment protection, then a law can be enacted to regulate that conduct (Hall, 2014).

This important liberty is a main motivation why the U.S. has achieved to avoid a lot of the spiritual battles that have divided so many other states separately.

The First Amendment of the Constitution says that the Congress cannot make a law that forces people to follow one religion or prohibit free speech. It also says that people have the right to hold peaceful assemblies to make a change. This allows people to have opinions and express them freely as long as they are peaceful.

(wikipedia) The first amendment is important to maintaining our basic freedoms because, you can practice any religion you want unlike in other countries where say in China Christianity is forbidden. As a Christian in the united states we don’t have nearly as many problems. We aren’t worried about our buildings being burnt down or being killed for what we are. In other countries Christians are worried about these things.

Every single person in the United States have the right to express their religion of preference or no religion at all, however him or her wants without offending anybody, and the best way to protect religion’s liberty was by keeping the government out if it and creating this First Amendment freedom of religion, to separate the church from the state.
