Process paper: How to Learn a Song
If you want to understand and learn a song there are many steps to do so. Just hearing a song is not good enough. It’s much more complex than that, although that is a step to learning a song. You have to understand the lyrics to the song, understand the composer, and personal information.
First step to learning and understanding the song is to listen to the song a couple of times. Try to capture some words to the song that makes sense to you, something easy to remember. You shouldn’t have to think about that line because, it is so easy you just know it. It is also very important while listening to the song to understand the beat of the song. The reason why learning the beat is important is so that you understand the flow of the song, so you don’t sing or think of the lines to early or late. This is a very crucial step to learning how to sing/rap a song. Without the lyrics you have no clue what you are saying. You are better of mumbling the song acting like you are singing/rapping along with the song. It is best to go on the internet and look up song lyrics. Read over the lyrics a couple times so it is easier to remember the song. After that play the song and try to sing/rap along while still looking at the lyrics. Once you are able to sing/rap along with the song while looking at the lyrics, try to sing/rap along with the song without the lyrics. This process is hard. Once it is easy to remember the song without the lyrics in front of you try to sing/rap the song without the words playing and without the lyrics in front of you. This is a hard step but, once you get the hang of it, it will be a piece of cake to sing/rap a song. For an example for the song “Soul Food” I looked up the lyrics to the song and started rapping it as soon as possible. I used this process to do
