The ability to determine crime scenes, process any and all physical evidence using the proper procedures and steps is a very important toll for the forensic technician. This paper will also document the proper steps and procedures that should be followed when processing a crime scene. By using the case study presented in the lesson, this paper will also show how a forensic technician can determine where a crime scene can be located.
Physical Evidence and Processing The Scene The role of a forensic technician in processing a crime scene is very important. Not only are they responsible for gathering, collecting and preserving all the evidence found at a crime scene, they must also follow a very important set of steps in order to make sure that all evidence has been collected properly, labeled and that all the paperwork that follows has all the correct information needed. Each one of the steps is very important and must be done in the correct order to make sure that all the evidence is collected and processed carefully. The 1st of these steps is a call out. In this step the forensic technician should record the date and time of the call out (Young, 2011). The 2nd step that a forensic techician should take is what is called a briefing. When a forensic techincian arrives at the scene they should record the date and time they arrived at the scene and also the time that the briefing started (Young, 2011). During the briefing it is normally the patrol sergeant or the first responder is the one that does the briefing, who then tells everyone at the briefing all the detials based on what has been found.
