"Propaganda consists of the planned use of any form of public or mass-produced communication designed to affect the minds and emotions of a given group for a specific purpose, whether military, economic, or political" (Levinson). Propaganda is used to gain the support of its viewers on an issue by either false or misleading information.

In every war, from the First World War to the present day in Iraq, military propaganda has been used intensely. Military propaganda is the most effective type of propaganda, because it touches the viewers emotionally. While there were major issues of poverty and suffering under leadership in Iraq, the same could have been said for many other countries in Latin America and North Africa. A critic of the propaganda against Iraqi government could deduce that there is no propaganda concerning overthrowing governments in other countries because they do not pose a major threat towards America. The foes of the Iraqi government wanted to make the viewers of the propaganda feel like they could be saviors of humanity by supporting the cause. In the same accord, much Middle East propaganda has also been in full effect during these times. The most common of these are seen on the streets of these countries, burning the images of President Bush and condemning the nation of America and its supporters. Many Middle Eastern and Iraqi prominent leaders call this war a "Holy War" (Bonnet). The propaganda called for Muslims all over the world to unite and drive away the forces of evil. On national television footage of Christian-Muslim violence in Indonesia were shown to rally support for resistance against United States, Britain, and its allies. These types of propaganda work very effectively because it aims at the heart of the viewers and tries to convince them that the cause is to preserve morality and freedoms.
